Don't Ask God's Forgiveness

When Hebrews9:26 says Christ put away sin and 2Cor5:19 says He reconciled the world, not imputing their sins, why do people still ask God to forgive them? Doesn't that mean it's already done?

The verse about "ALL FLESH" having salvation available is Luke 3:6 (search at 'biblegateway').

It is only those who also have their conscience purified (Hebrews 9:14) that have the guarantee of salvation...

Ephesians 1:14
"the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it...".

In order to "enter by the door" (John 10:1), it is not an INTELLECTUAL understanding of "scripture" that we must pursue, it is an INNER understanding of GOD'S WILL that we need.

Hebrews 10:36
"do the will of God and receive what is promised".

Lately I'm seeing a great deal of very argumentative behaviors on this blog. I know we feel very zealous about certain issues and it's very easy to get overly passionate about a subject. However, we should not get so upset about a subject to the point where we are putting others down, and saying comments that make ourselves sound more 'superior' than someone else. As Christians we must 1st remember the rule of is patient, kind, not rude, not boastful, and does not demand it's own way. Also let's remember to treat others as we want to be treated...with kindness, respect, and compassion.

ALL FLESH on earth shall have salvation available because what Jesus did on the cross gave all of humanity HOPE for eternal life with Him (before that, humanity didn't have that hope). We should live by (abide by) "faith, hope, and love" (1 Corin. 13:13).

Luke 3:6
"ALL FLESH shall see the salvation of God."

Our GUARANTEE (so that we retain the promise of eternal life) is having a peaceful and just Godlike NATURE (God is respecter of personalities, He only has regard for a person's true NATURE.

We must worship in our own "inner" temple by having a Godlike nature (1 Corin. 3:16, 6:19).

Jesus is the outer temple...
John 2:21
"he spoke of the temple of his body".
---more_excellent_way on 11/8/08

As it says in Revelation 2:17-19, all of us are basically wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked due to the shame of our sins...daily we need to come to God for forgiveness, because until we receive our brand new spiritual bodies we will never be completely free of sin. Not being 'hot'/zealous for God is a great sin as well. I am happy to see all of you on these blogs because you seem hungry and zealous to do the true will of God, and to learn from one another. Even in the Lord's prayer, Jesus counsels us to ask God to forgive us our sins. I can't wait till we get our brand new spiritual bodies!
---Anne on 11/7/08

Mike, I did not say, nor mean, that God cannot do anything. He can do whatsoever he wants. The truth is that he either will or won't do a thing, not can or cannot. I am saying that going by past warnings and past experiences of the O.T (this is why the knowledge of the O.T is so important) he WON'T forgive wilful sins that are done after the knowledge of Jesus Christ is received and especially after the promised Saviour has come and forgiven us. But there is a caveat. If we REPENT for our REBELLIOUSNESS then God will not turn us away.
---frances008 on 11/7/08

I am grateful that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, enabling all who sin ignorantly, to enter into Heaven. But we have consciences and these will help God to determine whether we are evil or not in God's eyes. Those who know the good they ought to do, which is to follow Jesus Christ, and do not do it, are not going to receive mercy from Christ. Jesus is the Judge, that is why we confidently say He is the Way to the Father. You had better be sure you are pleasing Jesus.
---frances008 on 11/7/08

Frances, Where do you get this bit that GOD can't forgive the sins of a willfull sinner after recieving forgivness? If referring to Heb.10:26 It says, To sin willfully after recieving the "Knowledge of the Truth". Not the forgivness of sins. Totally different things! You are the one quoting out of context here. Romans6:10 "He died to sin Once for All! Old testament, New Testament & beyond. 1John.1:7 The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from ALL sin. 1John.1:9 If we confess our sins, (and this means anytime) He is Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins and to Cleanse us from All unrighteousness.
---Mike356 on 11/5/08

Kathr, there are two things you are missing, if not three. It is because you do not read properly in context. One is that Jesus's death was a one time event, and cannot cover the sins that someone wilfully does after receiving forgiveness. Two, who is the 'we' and 'us' referred to? It means specific people (obedient people who have forsaken their former lusts of the flesh). Three, washing means washing it does not mean making you immune from the devil tricks, as is so blatantly obvious with your bringing in of new doctrines that take away from the gospel of Christ.
---frances008 on 11/5/08

Duane, I know so many still have that OT mentality of the blood of bulls and goats covering.....

We're more than covered here...we're WASHED!!! White as snow!!!!
---kathr4453 on 11/5/08

That is so true. Jesus came not to just cover sin(cancer) but to take it(cancer/ sin) away. Why do most deny this??
We either believe this(faith) OR we dont.(unbelief in HIM.)
To be saved, we must believe on HIM who HE has sent.
Its by grace(UNmerited) favor) through Faith.
---duane on 11/5/08

***"ALL FLESH" on earth shall see (have available) salvation, but it is only those who choose to truly have a Godlike nature that will have the guarantee of salvation.****

More Excellent way, do you have any scripture to prove this statement.

It's seems to be in TOTAL conflict with 2st Peter chapter 1. and Hebrews 13:20 & 21.

It's God who works in us to will and to do.
---kathr4453 on 11/5/08

Duane, how can one turn from their cancer? In other words some are teaching one must put away their cancer before God can cure their cancer? How silly is that!!!!

When I see the word REMISSION of sin....I see, remission of cancer. We can't put ourselves in remission. If we could who needs Jesus anyway!

How can you repent of your cancer, especially when all were born with this incurable cancer?

Are they saying one must LIST all the effects of their disease....nausea, vomiting...loss of appetite, muscle control, weight, etc, etc, and turn from it to be saved.

It just doesn't make sense if that is what some are teaching.
---kathr4453 on 11/5/08

Leslie, let's look at sin this way. Let's compare it to an incurable cancer resulting in death. We all died literally in Adam's sin, and inherited an incurable disease...death resulting in separation from God.

Now, many want to try other alternatives to cure their disease.....all but the only one who CAN cure.

So, yes REPENT people who try to think YOU can cure yourselves....turn from yourselves and your self-righteousness, turn from your false gods, false quacks, ignorance, pride, and turn to Jesus Christ, who is the ONLY ONE WHO CAN forgive, cleanse, and bring Life and immortality to you through Faith in Him, bringing you back to the FATHER.
---kathr4453 on 11/5/08

Most all I have read here is adding to the word. Repent means what it means...A change of mind...People want to add sin to it.
Jesus came to put sin away, which HE did, so believe it.
There is not one person in this blog who has repented(turned from sin) because your still sinning and you will still be sinning tell the day you die, constantly asking to be forgiven NOT believing you ARE forgiven.
Its finished and you all dont believe it.
---duane on 11/5/08

"ALL FLESH" on earth shall see (have available) salvation, but it is only those who choose to truly have a Godlike nature that will have the guarantee of salvation.

Many people will only 'put on airs' and show a Godly PERSONality, but God is no respecter of personalities, He only has regard for a person's true nature (the KJV translates Acts 10:34 accurately).

If a person has a truly Godlike nature, they will have the guarantee.

Ephesians 1:14
"which is the guarantee" they can enter by "the door" (John 10:1).

The bible is not an authority, it is a REFERENCE...

Matthew 28:18
"ALL AUTHORITY in heaven and earth was given to" (Jesus does not lie).

Kathr, to continually sin, having once been cleansed in the blood of Christ, at Calvary, is to need to continually sacrifice Jesus Christ in a Catholic mass. That is like nailing Christ again and again to the cross by your sinfulness. To me this is just a spirit of rebellion, and also making up your own doctrine of devils. Jesus proved who he was, and now you have to make him Lord of your life.

Kathr, having been washed by the blood of Christ once, we need to keep clean through the Word and the teaching of the Holy Spirit. We need to live different lives after turning to Jesus in repentance. You cannot get into the wedding banquet if you have been rolling around in the mud in your wedding garment. Remember the guy who was thrown out for not having the right clothes on Matthew 22.
---frances008 on 11/4/08

For all those that believe that you do not need to repent to have sins forgiven, or that repentance voids out what Jesus did on the cross, here are some scriptures that say otherwise. Luke 13:3,5 (repent or perish (go to Hell)), Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19 (repent and be saved), Acts 17:30 (repent). If you are still not convinced, you are worshipping a FALSE god. No repentance equals the gospel of grace (FALSE teaching).
---Leslie on 11/4/08

Leslie,Have you not read my post? I have repented long ago. I came to Jesus in faith. I put my total trust IN HIM. IN HIM I have the forgiveness of sin. Now Im set free from sin because HE received my wages of sin and gave me righteousness in return. I will always live my physical life through faith in HIM. I have spiritual life now and forever because of HIM.... THAT, I WILL NEVER DOUBT.
---duane on 11/4/08

Asking for forgivness is part of what it means when the Bible says repent. For repentance is turning from sin asking for forgivness. The forgivness of GOD is available to all. But many will not ask for it and in effect are refusing to be forgiven.

Act 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and [then] to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Grace brings forgivness. That is only true if we follow our words with actions.

Leslie and Duane, maybe this will help. There are man kinds of faith being taught today within the professing Church. If you take the teaching of Joel Osteen for example, he seems to be teaching the kind of faith that says God is one big Sugar Daddy in the sky. So in that perspective he doesn't preach SIN or that the only faith God acknowledges before we are saved, is faith that Jesus died for our sin. Our faith is in Jesus and what HE accomplished at Calvary....Forgivness of SIN. So genuine FAITH is about sin, our state, that we are dead in sin, and our faith in Jesus Christ who forgives sin.

So yes, one has to acknowledge one is a sinner, who cannot save themselves.
---kathr4453 on 11/4/08

Kathr4453- You are MISINTERPRETING scripture. The verse you used talks about HUMAN laws, NOT God's laws. God's laws did NOT become void on the cross, they are still applicable today. Jesus did NOT come to destroy the law of God, but to FULFILL it. If you are NOT living by God's laws, but by man's laws, and have not repented - you are going to Hell. Saying that God does not require repentance, is committing idolitry - you are making a FALSE god (He does NOT exist). God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and He does NOT change - if He required repentance then, He requires it now.
---Leslie on 11/4/08

Leslie, here is what the Bible says:

Colossians 2:12-14

12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross

THIS is what Jesus Christ accomplished at Calvary......and our faith in HIM and identification in death and resurrection life is what nails it ALL to the CROSS!!!
---kathr4453 on 11/4/08

Duane - Without repentance, God can NOT and will NOT forgive your sins. Since you do not believe in repentance, Duane sorry, but you are headed for Hell. God is perfect and sinless, Heaven is without sin - sin cannot be allowed into Heaven. Therefore, the only place you can go if you do not repent is to Hell.

Hebrews 3.12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. 13 But exort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Sin leads to unbelief - God proved it time and again, when they idol worshipped, he let things go from bad to worse until they were sacrificing their children to idols. Then they finally realized that they had turned away from the living God, and invented their own God and gone their own ways.)

Kathr, where does it say that the blood of Jesus washes our sins away?

The Word sancitifies us, and so does the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does nearly everything for us. How can we access the Holy Spirit quickly? By reading the Word of God. How can keep the Holy Spirit? By obeying the Word of God. There is nothing automatic about Salvation.

Isn't that wonderful......we receive REMISSION of Sins. See, if you had the power to turn from your don't need remisssion of sins. The Blood of Jesus WASHES AWAY our sin. OH what a SAVIOR!!!!

And nothing was said to Cornelius to repent either... Maybe because Cornelius didn't need to repent of rejecting Jesus Christ.
---kathr4453 on 11/3/08

The original question here has to do with universal salvation apart from anything man needs to do....

However it is interesting that neither here or Romans 10:9 & 10 use the word repent....but does not teach universal salvation.

If there was universal salvation...there would have been no need for Peter to give the Gospel to Cornelius and his family.

Acts 1043To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
---kathr4453 on 11/3/08

The bible says we are saved by grace through faith. The bible never says we are saved through repenting of sin. You dont know what the bible really is saying, your believing what someone tells you. When you repent, you turn to Christ who bears your sins.
I have already repented.(turned to Christ) I am not a sinner anymore, for sinners are not saved. I have been made righteous.
Your still trying to be forgiven of sin because you dont believe IN the Cross. You havent truely repented(turned to Christ). It is finished and you dont believe it. I will pray HE gives you a Change of mind.

Yes, that does mean "forgiveness has been done".

"Forgiveness" is DONE WITH, completed, finished, cannot be undone, is no longer an abiding issue needing to be further resolved, nor does it warrant anymore consideration from us.

We cannot (and need not) make any effort or have any desire to modify or alter forgiveness in any way (for ourselves OR others), it has been made FINAL by God.

If and when we ever develop the notion that ANY other human being lacks any degree of forgiveness from God, we must remember that it is not our business to even notice that (true or not),...forgiveness is GOD'S territory (like it or not).

Luke 3:6
"ALL flesh shall see the salvation of God."
---more_excellent_way on 11/1/08

Trusting that what Jesus did on the cross is completely sufficient to finalize "forgiveness" is true faith.

Feeling/believing otherwise is the equivalent of mocking the blood of Jesus (NO MATTER what you are ever taught, hear, or read).

Forsake all of man's teachings. Worship centers/churches/temple buildings are FALSE. The inner and outer temples consist of The Lord's body and our own.

John 2:21
"...He spoke of the temple of His body"...

1 Corin. 3:16
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

Earthly spiritual teachers are wrong (there should be none, 1 John 2:27).

The bible is only the introductory doctrine (Hebrews 6:1).
---more_excellent_way on 11/1/08

Duane - I am not saying these things, the Bible says them. Repentance has to do with looking to the cross. Repentance says that "I am a filthy sinner, who needs a savior, and cannot save myself". It is obvious that you do not believe you are a sinner in need of a savior, and believe you can save yourself - you therefore do not think you need to repent of your sins, and that you are just saved automatically. If this is the case, then only Christ can help you, and I pray you do not go to Hell in your deception and ignorance.
---Leslie on 11/1/08

Leslie.. I am with you on this one. Jesus told the woman at the well, to go & sin no more. This was an act on her part, he empowered her to do this, just as he does us, when we are sincere. This thinking is what has allowed Christian after Christian to remain in sin, with the whole world watching. The church is in a mess, because of this. Sin needs to stop, now. Turn from it, so that he does not have to bring chastisement into your life. The fear of the Lord, needs to return to the church.
---Gayla on 11/1/08

Your still putting your faith in turning from sin to be saved instead of faith in the Cross. You havent truely repented(turned to Christ) yet.
If flesh and blood could turn from sin, there would be no reason or purpose for the Cross or to be born again. We live in a body of sin and death. Sin cant overcome sin. The wages of sin is death. We need life.
We are saved(have life) by grace through faith alone and has nothing to do with the flesh. The sin of the world is unbelief in HIM. Change your mind and believe on HIM. In HIM we HAVE the forgiveness of sin.
---duane on 11/1/08

duane - Repentance DOES mean to turn from sin, as well as a change of mind. According to the Bible, you MUST have repentance and faith in order to be saved. If you are missing either one or both, you are NOT saved. If you have kids, and they do something wrong - yes, you require an apology, but also for them not to do it again. It is the same with God. We can apologise to Him, but still do the same things again and again (this shows no repentance). Repentance means your sorry, and will NOT do it again.
---Leslie on 10/30/08

Repentance is a change of mind. To become Christian means a change of mind from unbelief to believing on HIM. It is NOT turning from sin to be saved. It cant be done. The only way to be without sin is to turn to Christ. HE takes sin away. We are forgiven always when born again.

No doubt that we are to strive for perfection but will always be at war with our flesh. Paul was talking to Christians in 1Jn when he said that IF we SIN, we have an advocate with the Father(Jesus) and that "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". If we were perfected at the time of salvation, he would not have said that and many other things which show our never ending war with the flesh.
---jody on 10/29/08

Repentance is turning from sins. This is our part, and God can NOT and will NOT forgive sins until you repent. This is what the Bible says. We are in a contract with God and God cannot fulfill His part of the contract (forgiveness), until we fulfill our part of the contract (repentance). Jesus and Paul even preached repentance. Read your Bibles people.
---Leslie on 10/29/08

When a person comes to Christ for salvation, their sins are washed away. Subsequent to that, they may commit other sins. If you read 1Jn chap 1 you will see a need to continue to confess sins to stay pure. If anyone does sin, we have a advocate with the father and that is Jesus Christ. If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. We must keep our vessels holy and walk in obedience as Christians. We will always war with the sinful nature.

An answer to your "why" without reproach:
Matthew 6:12: "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
Luke 11:4: "And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that
is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

Just as true as ever:
Psalm 97
10: "Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his
saints, he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. 11: Light is
sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
12: Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous, and give thanks at the
remembrance of his holiness."
---Nana on 11/27/07

It always has been the same way: "love the LORD, hate evil". Jesus
taught to bring before the Father our transgressions or sins but note
that it is done in a very special way. It is the way of honesty in that
we are taught to ask forgiveness in the same measure that we forgive!
Matthew 18:33,35, 1 John 3:10, Romans 14:21.

Jesus bore our sins on Calvary so we wouldn't fall into the Old Law like they did in the Old Testament. Cause when one sinned, they had to sacrifice an animal. Jesus was the sacrifice, so we wouldn't have to. Yes we still have to ask God to forgive us from the sins we still commit. Why? Cause if we don't we wont' be forgiven. I've heard some give lying advice saying you don't need to ask God to forgive you, your already forgiven. Not according to the bible we're not forgiven unless we ask...first.
---Rebecca_D on 11/7/07

Answering your last question first, yes it is true, God has already forgiven our sins and put them away. So then why do we ask for forgiveness(certainly not to benefit God). NO, we ask God for forgiveness in order to cleanse ourselves by his wondrous, gracious, always available, shed blood at the cross of Calvary!!! O thank you Jesus!!! Remember his mercies are renewed day by day!
---Mima on 11/7/07

Very good question. If we took that and ran with it and disregarded what the rest of the Bible says about sin then we could come to the conclusion that everyone in the world is saved.I think we should read those verses with the understanding that one must receive Christ before sins will not be imputed. "He who has Christ has life and he who has not Christ has not life".
