today, 3/6/11 God would talk through scriptures. The reason being there is new thing going on. So as it is now is as the days before John the Baptist: We have the scriptures and we follow until something " New" is about to happen.
When something "New" is about to happen God will send a prophets to his people.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

The idiom the various books of the Bible used in their original languages WAS the way people spoke back then.

You don't expect Moses to have written like a Martian, do you?

God definetly speaks to us differently mainly through the scriptures.God does speak many of times and alot of times he speaks through his presence if you seek him in prayer his presence will give you the comfort that you need.GOD knows exactly what you need his presences ministers to you .I know this will probaly sound wierd to some but I think that people can sometimes become all about the bible which is good but dont neglect the seeking his face. JESUS said to the pharises you study the scriptures because in them you think you have life .But these very scriptures speak about me yet your are not willing to come to me to have life .We must seek him in both the word and in prayer

God speaks to us everyday. If we would simply get still and listen. Then obey. Our daily lives have become so rushed and out of control until there is no time left over for God. Because of this we are clueless and powerless to do what God requires of us,most days. We are caught up with secular things and suffer tremendously. Maybe once a week(Sunday) we rush to church and leave the same way we came(powerless). Then it starts all over again. God is not pleased with this behavior.

The #1 way God speaks to all christians is through the scriptures. When we are in doubt as to what we need to do,concerning our obligation to Him,ourselves and to our fellowman is: getting into the Word (bible) is the direction we should follow. Then no man will be able to lead us astray. This is basic knowledge every christian should know. This is why disciplining(mentoring) is so important for new christians. Just saying the sinners prayer is only the beginning of our christian journey. We still have many flaws(sins) to overcome. But with the help of the Lord and knowledge, we get stronger daily. Stick to the scriptures and we can't go wrong.

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24

"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:3,5

"It is the spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:44

Once after witnessing all evening in a parking lot, I was taking up my signs and putting up my popcorn machine when a car suddenly drove up and stopped. The lady driving the car said. I want some popcorn and I want to know what you're doing here. So after talking to her I made her some popcorn, witness to her, and she received the Lord. I then asked her why did you stop(it was almost dark)and she said, as I was driving by a voice told me turn in right there, turn in right there and talk to that man.
And after talking to you and receiving Christ I know who's voice it was.

Not sure I understand the question, why wouldn't he?

Considering Psalm 138:2 where he exalts his word above HIS own name, doesn't that about settle it?

That is an amazing declaration.

After purchasing a hamburger meal, I had a strong feeling pushing me to go behind the local grocery store nearby and look for a man back there. I drove from one end to the other and saw noone. On my way back out a 24 year old kid was walking away from the store (dirty clothes, dirty skin, weak looking) and he looked at me funny, desperation in his eyes. I asked him if he was hungry and he replied "yes, sir" so I gave him the food. I told him the Lord Jesus Christ wanted me to give this to him and you shouldve seen the look on this boys face.

It was EXACTLY what that boy needed to hear at that moment. I almost cried right there in my truck. He quickly walked away but I just knew that was a turning point in his life.

Can only speak from the past. Once while driving a persisting voice told me to go to a man I saw walking along on the sidewalk and found the guy was bleeding and broke. Had been robbed while hitch hiking. Gave him some money and get him in touch with an aunt. In the attic during Ike and the water rising in the house finally a voice said clearly, "Your lives will not be required of you" and the water stopped rising. Once was suppose to get extensive surgical dental work done and had appointment. A voice told me all would go well with me, the next day the pain was gone and I ate fine. Canceled the appointment and never did have to get it.

God relates to my spirit through 7 different avenues of communication
that confirm His existence and my calling and Apostleship of His eternalGodhead.
---Jack_8773 on 12/24/07

God does not play games.

God does not simply call out names just for the sake of calling your name. If He did call you it would be for a task for you to perform or a message for you to deliver to the world, to a city, or to a person. If He did talk to you, you would know it immediately and for sure it was God and wouldn't wonder if it was from God or if you are imagining it.
---Steveng on 12/22/07

Hi Mima.
I am also interested why I heard God's voice! My life is less than godly. However, the Word seems to indicate that this kind of communication is characteristic of God. "Abraham, Abraham" God called just before He established an everlasting covenant. "Moses, Moses" God called just before sending him to lead His people. He did it with Samuel too. Has God chosen me to change the world? Unlikely. MAYBE there is something He purposed me for that MUST get done. Just maybe.

A large percentage of my clients hear their name being called. (I am a psyciatric nurse.) Some think it is God speaking, some the devil, some a dead relative... Usually antipsychotic medications stop the voices.
---robin8683 on 12/20/07

God speaks to me in many ways. Sometimes a small still voice speaks in scripture verses. Sometimes He speaks using words of today. Sometimes He uses people to give me a message.

I'm very interested in the answer given by---Nicolette. My wife had a experience of hearing her name called on two different occasions. I find this very intriguing.
---Mima on 12/20/07

I know this will sound crazy but here goes!

I have heard Him speak to me with an audible voice twice. Each instant was months apart and both times He simply called my name. That was years ago. At first I thought I was delusional but I recently realised that it was Him by a confirmation I received through the Word. Now I recall that after each instant I heard Him call my name, my life altered DRASTICALLY. Don't know if I will ever hear Him that way again but I sure do long for it.

I really like the answer given by---kady.
---Mima on 12/20/07

Halleluiah, Shirley ! ! I've heard "thoughts" in my mind, did not understand what they meant...then, years later, things would develop in my life and after that I would be reminded of the thought and get, "This is what that meant, I told you so." (o: What He means is what He will bring to pass with us. This is so with His word > only the grace of His love working in us can get us to do all You really mean by Your word > "lean not on your own understanding" (in Proverbs 3:5).

Often He uses Scriptures but many times it is a spiritual prompting and sometimes a dream or vision. Often it is a prophecy given by total strangers. On a couple of occasions I have heard an audible voice. There isn't a one way that the Lord gets His message across to me.
---john on 12/19/07

He speaks to me both ways.Somtimes HE quotes scripture like the 1st.Psalm.I didn't know where it was located in the Bible when HE quoted it to me.I had to look in the Bible to find it.He didn't tell me which book in the Bible it was in either. When I was attacked by a vicious dog.He told me to turn around to face it and I did and the dog began to tremble turned tail and ran.Once I had the green light and HE said 1 word stop.I would have been in an accident. So the answer is HE can speak to you either way.
---shirley on 12/19/07

First and foremost thru His written word.
---robin8683 on 12/19/07

Sometimes I think I can hear him talk to me in "my talk", but it's wonderful to have the scriptures nearby to be able to test those words to be truth or flesh.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
