John1944, very good question. As a Christian, I am going to live forever, but not here in this world. I long to be with Christ, to see Him face to face. There is nothing in this world that I desire to live here forever for. The race, the walk is worth it to be with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords forever in eternity. Amen and God Bless!

Frank, Your rationalization is difficult to swallow. IE Man is of the earth (earthy) was never meant to live anywhere else. That's why we have such a beautiful plannet, food, vegetation, animals, birds etc.. all for man's enjoyment. God had already made 100million Angels to live in heaven. Being dissatisfied with what God has provided shows no appreciation! "The meek inherit the earth"

The world would like to have their cake
and eat it to,but it won't work.
The only way you get the prize,is to run in the race. There is life after death. Running in the race to have that eternal life
after we lieve this world,is worth the run.

Not me. When I am the closest to God I long to be with Him in heaven. Sometimes it is so strong. People live as if there is no God, too. As if there is no coming judgment day when God will judge them for all of their wickedness.

Anyone that truly is born again should have no desire to live here forever. Her (men and women making the bride) desires should be towards her husband and she should be patiently awaiting his return. Strangers, pilgrims and sojourners should not want to live here in a strange land any longer than they have to.

L Linda, All those things you mention are when you are "resurrected", not when you die! Death is the wages of sin.LIFE is the gift of God! Dead in hell (hades/sheol the common grave of man)is where you will spend eternity if you are the recipient of the wages of sin! Those who paint God as the torturing fiend ,burning humans forever, will feel His wrath!

If you remember Adam was originally made to live forever until he sinned. As descendents from Adam I think it is born in us to desire to live forever and in a way we will.Just this old temple of flesh will perish. Our soul and spirit will live forever with the Lord and we will one day have a new and glorified body like Christ.

Life is what we were intended for, not temporal imperfect life, but eternal unending life.

God has set it in our hearts as we are fashioned after his eternal image there's a truth that is evident (Rom 1) to all.

Ecc 3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

Good question. The desire to go on living is of course a self-centered one. We love our own lives more than anything else.

What is the appeal?

I ask you, bluntly, do you not want to see Jesus Christ when you die?

Do you not want to see the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God?

Do you not want to see the streets filled the awesome Glory of God?

Do you not want to see all peoples healed, restored, in their right minds with no depression, poverty, and sickness?
---lovable_linda on 12/20/07

What is the appeal?

Do you not want to see the end of war and starvation in third world countries?

Do you not want to see the end of injustice - the rich getting richer and the poor becoming poorer, the end of corruption in governments and evil kings?
---lovable_linda on 12/20/07

What is the appeal?

The bible says the first shall be last and the last shall be first.

Those that the world rejects, who hang onto their hope in Jesus Christ will have their reward. The Righteous Judge will set all crooked places straight and rough places smooth. He's going to set all things right.

What is the appeal of hell?

Eternal torment and no relief.
All evil deeds, every lost opportunity to follow Jesus Christ, every memory of rejecting God, eternally tormenting your mind?
---lovable_linda on 12/20/07

John my good man you broach a most intriguing subject.
For a nonbeliever living forever is a necessity. For Hell will not be pleasant.
For a believer the desire to live forever is fostered by doubt and failure to trust God's Word.
If a person is saved and believes the word they should have a certain anticipation of death being the entry to a beautiful beginning.

So many want to live a long life, but they don't want to get old (o: And if you live to be old, friends and family members will die before you do.

If you live a life of God's love, though, God will keep improving you in this love life with better and better fulfillment with Him, plus you will have more and more special people in your life and will be sound enough to be ready to handle all their problems and when ones be ready.
