James 2:14-26 is not about going to heaven, even though he uses the word "saved". If you back up to v12, James is talking about the Judgment Seat of Christ, which is our REWARDS judgment. Then in v14 he says "my brethren", what if you show up for rewards and don't have any works? Will faith alone save you from losing all your rewards? Absolutely not. Read the Sermon on the Mount (Matt5-7) it's about works. And pay attention to the most common theme: REWARDS. Our works have nothing to do with going to heaven. Read Romans 4:21-22.

There is a Scripture based on that in the New Testament, but, I don't know exactly where it's at. The one about "selling everything you own and following Me", saith the Lord thy God.

While God can give us a temporary boost in faith if we request His help (Mark 9:23-27) The standard way to build faith is by obedience to God's commandments.
I stand with James (James 2:18)
Works are not enough. Christ's grace is needed by all. But Jesus gave us commandments and seems to indicate that He will judge us (judge the strength of our faith) by how well we 'work' his commandments. But Christ is the perfect judge in interpreting mitigating circumstances as he judges our faith by our works.

The True salvation of God & good works work together like hand in glove.
Good works without The salvation of God, don't work. Good works by itself is just like self righteous acts of kindness & is like filthy rags in The sight of God.

"If a Christian does good works...will this keep him out of heaven? Of course not, nor will it guarantee entrance. A man is both saved and justified by the faith of Jesus. It is our empowered acknowledgment, confession, trust, reliance, assurance and dependence upon His finished work that grants us entrance. The aforementioned "good works" are simply an outward manifestation of an inward condition, the product of the indwelling presence of His Spirit. It is He who works in us, to will and do His pleasure. However, to refuse to adhere to His prompting, to bring forth His will, is to grieve Him. Please see Mat. 25:31-46

There is no such thing as faith and works.
They are not separate. There is such a thing as works of faith, for anything not of faith is sin. Faith will always produce good works. Good works will not produce faith.
For all we need is faith, that faith will always produce good works.

A person can feed the poor, help the sick, be a good neighbor and still die lost without Jesus. If the blood has not been applied, they are none of his. Good works does not get anyone into heaven. If that were the case, hell will be empty.

and who was it that said, "in the long run we are all dead"? Though I agree that the two should go together, I'm in hopes that there is some room for mercy/forgiveness because I know that my faith and my works are at times far less than perfect.

when you have faith....and you must.
Then good works are the fruit of that faith.
God wants us to go out and follow the beatitudes.
God is good..why shouldn't we strive to be good?

Mima * Hell will be populated with people who had good works!! Heaven will be populated with people who have Jesus!!*
And those who have Jesus do good works, according to Paul, so according to you, we all are going to Hell.
Our Christian life is about faith and works. As St. Paul said, "...we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works...." (Eph 2:10)
"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:20)

Although we do not earn heaven with our works, nonetheless, according to Bible, the Christian life is about faith worketh together with love [which includes feeding the poor and other good works].

This is true Moderator. People that are wearing the name Christian who has never been bought by the Blood of Christ are putting a bad reputation on God and His name. Now, God does laugh at His enemies but, I am sitting down here fumeing angry about half the time. I wonder why we don't get it right in this nation and give satan credit to where credit is due? And leave God out where sin is abounding.
