Should Christians Offend
Should Christians Offend: The Bible says the Gospel is an offense, but I feel some take this as a liscence to be obnoxious and anti-social in general. What is the context for us needing to be offensive? What is not?

God recognizes this and madesure we understand by addressing thatas our "NATURAL LIMITATIONS", Romans 6:19, butitsnot alwaysso innocentof us.It is that we usually do not take care to discipline ourselvesto ONLY dowhat is right for peaceful coexistence. Jesus did not come to bring everyone PEACE (of mind) so we could continue doing whatever we wish regardless of it's' merit, He came to produce a division inour heart and mind between right and wrong (but everybody wants to offend). The reason humans treat "obective truth" as irrelevant is that we are finite beings, and are incapable of percieving objective truth. All we can do is use our finite, imperfect senses, and our finite, imperfect reasoning skills, and try to deduce the truth. As Paul said, "we see through a glass darkly".

Christ told his 70 elders:
Mt 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
The Apostle Paul instructs:
Ro 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
I do not find in the scriptures where we are instructed to be obnoxious and anti-social.
Lord bless his elect.

Judge Scriptually, Do not judge when God's word is silent, Pray for good judgment ability, Don't respect person. In other words no favoritism. I got called down on that one by God and I did not really know what I had done, until Later on when I saw it in the word of God, and it said "do Not show favoritism". Judge in truth, Judge merecifully, and do not forget to Judge yourself. Any judge behind the bench should heed to what good judging really means in the word of God.

In your exercising your liberty to offend, it may
be a good idea not to fall in line with the offenders
Matthew 18:6: "But whoso shall offend one of these little
ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a
millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were
drowned in the depth of the sea."
Also don't offend yourself lest hell be your abode,

Why is everyone so concern about offending the wicked man? God is offended by these people everyday. God's people must learn to not take offense by the wicked man. Yet, we are offended all the time with the goings on in this world. And on top of all of that, it is God's world. He created it. If people had any kind of fear of God and acknowledgment that there is a true God, you would not do half the stuff that you do.

#3. "There is no one that is going to hell that didn't deserve going to hell. And there is no one going to heaven that deserved going to heaven" There is enmity between the seed of the woman, those who are the children of the Devil, and the seed of Christ, those who have believed by faith, who are children of Christ. The enmity was proclaimed by God in Genesis 3:15. Every single Christian should hate sin with every fiber, for if he is loving it, he is not a child of God.
---Mark_V. on 3/9/08|
#4. My remarks will offend many, and I cannot help to what extend. If I am speaking the Truth and the person is saved, he will learn from the Truth. If what I say is not truth, it will have no power whatsoever. Can I direct someone to hell? Of course not. They are already going there, they are children of the Devil. God is not a spectator of His Creation. He is involve in every aspect of His creation. many of you will disagree with me, but my only duty was to bring the truth and the rest is up to God.
---Mark_V. on 3/9/08|
J., Every Christian has a duty to express the truth. It might not be what the others truth is but he has a duty. The only Truth that will have an effect is the real Truth. For God along uses His Truth to not only convict but to bring others to Christ, to chastise believers, to correct and to teach. We don't have any idea how God will use His Truth and what purpose it will bring to God but it will accomplish the purpose for what it was intended for.
---Mark_V. on 3/9/08|
#2. God knows every single individual. He knows our strength's and our weaknesses. He is not making any mistakes with anyone. To some He give them more knowledge then others according to His will. But each of us have one duty, and that is to bring the Truth of the Gospel. Some might have a wrong gospel altogether but that is not going to change what God's purpose is. Those going to hell are going to hell. Those who will be saved are going to be saved.
---Mark_V. on 3/9/08|

Jesus was (and is) the Truth. He offended a lot of folks, especially those who already thought they knew everything. They were so blind that they couldn't even "see" the One their memorized Scriptures testified of. We, as ambassadors of Christ, are not to be offensive. Why, the last miracle Jesus did was restore a man's ear after Peter cut it off with the sword. That speaks volumes.

Your salvation may depend upon your ability to see when you are being deceived or not. Hosea 4 says 'For lack of knowledge my people perish.' 2 Thess 2 tells us that those who believe the lie are not going to Heaven. Matthew 24 and Mark 13 says Many will be deceived. The prophets are full of how the people will be punished for not being interested in the truth. God is truth. Lies are from Satan.

Christ was crucified because He spoke truth, which offended many people.
The Apostles were martyrs because they spoke truth which offended people.
I wonder how many people will risk their life because they share the truth, and how many people will go with the flow, and follow the status quo, because they don't want to offend anyone with truth.

There is a huge difference between being offensive, and people choosing to be offended by what is said. Christ was not offensive,(pure love) yet many were offended by His perfect life, His pure teaching, and not condemning sinners.

If, during the Nazi era in Germany, people told the truth about what was going on, would people have been offended? Yes. The truth offends. That is not hypocritical, that is just a sad fact. Perhaps we should all go around saying Buddhism is the religion, or New Age, or Allah is God. Whatever. Just don't upset people with the truth.
---frances008 on 3/6/08|
If Christians claim to be loving and forgiving, but then sue each other right left and center, they're hypocrites.
If a Christian landlord evicts a tenant for being a day late on his rent, he's a hypocrite.
If a Christian commits all manner of sins, then says "I'm sorry, Jesus forgives me" and does not change, he's a hypocrite.
Others say "If Christians are such hypocrites, I want no part of them, nor of any God who tolerates such representatives".
---StrongAxe on 3/4/08|
StrongAxe, Stating Biblical Truths, and refuting doctrinal LIES that keep many on the Road to Hell ARE Good Reasons to risk "offending" people. What was it that caused the Name of YAHUSHUA (Christ) to be blasphemed? False Doctrine? Hypocritical "christians"? Simply being rude to others? Those WOULD blaspheme GOD's Name. But, defending the Truth and rebuking Lies EDIFIES His Name. And Love propels you to care enough to speak the Truth, and expose LIES for the sake of human souls!

The Bible tells us that some people will be offended at the Gospel Luke12:51-53.We are commanded to share the Gospel... Jesus said that he was a stumbling block. It's inevitable that we should be too, but it should be for the right reasons.
Unfortunately, some Christians behave in such a manner as to offend others. Paul quoted "It is because of YOU that my name is blasphemed among the nations".
Jesus said it would be better that we should be thrown into the sea with a millstone around our neck, than that we should offend an innocent.
---StrongAxe on 2/27/08|
Sure, its okay to offend. Jesus said many would be offended because of Him. The Truth often offends especially when you are one who will not Keep all the Commandments but rather just keep the convenient ones, thus finding yourself denying Him and His ways. Yep...those folks are always offended, just like Caine was offended by Abel.
---SeventhSeal on 2/27/08|
Okey, you first have to get to know your Savior. God does not always lead us into the spirit of love. And this is where unbelievers may become confused. To be obnoxious is OUT. God will certainly deal with His people. Anti-social is another issue. Sometimes God wants us more to Himself. For spiritual lessons, training, ect. Lonliness, you have to learn by the power of God to deal with it. So few people are equipped to serve God. Myself, I can take people or not take them. I can be happy either way.
---catherine on 2/27/08|
StrongAxe, I'm not talking of getting in people's faces, in anger, to speak the Truth. I mean STANDING UP for Biblical Truths and Doctrine and rebuking Lies that are declared as "Truths". Some people DO GET OFFENDED by simple Biblical Truth. Things that are said on this WebSite that are declared as "Truths" but are really Falsehoods, I will rebuke and state what is True, even at the "risk" of offending. SOME feelings of being "offended" stem from self-centeredness.
---Gordon on 2/27/08|

---Nana on 2/27/08|
Christians have been labeled offensive since Christianity has been in existence. The Good News of Jesus Christ is offensive to some or most unbelievers anyway. Our lfestyles, beliefs, actions etc,,are all offensive to the Lost. I don't worry about being offensive when I know I am doing the will of God and not being obnoxious, judgmental or plain ungodly.
---Robyn on 2/26/08|
That is correct and God is watching those who deliberately write false testimonies with other's names. That is evil.
---Michelle on 2/26/08|
Note that Jesus ONLY used anger in four instances:
1) when speaking to the Pharisees
2) when overturning the moneychangers
3) rebuking Peter "Get thee behind me Satan"
4) when he withered the fig tree.
In all but the last case, he was speaking to known religious workers who should have known better. He NEVER spoke in anger or in an insulting manner to someone with whom he was SHARING the truth.

I had a strange experience connected with something like this question. While I was in the hospital after my heart attack several people, who I had witnessed to before I got sick, who had turned my witness down visited me in the hospital alone and by themselves they asked me to again give the message. I did and they received the Lord Jesus Christ there in my hospital room. How amazing what the Lord can do. One of them told me I came to hear the message because I heard you were about to die.

Very well said, Leslie. The Bible says, somewhere, that in the Last Days many will be offended. Which is one reason people will sue other people for the slightest things, well, part of that is simple Greed, but, people are way too easily offended. And now, politically speaking, you can't attack the Muslim faith without an UPROAR, but it's, well, O-KAY to stomp down those "stupid" Christians and their "Jesus". The Truth will always offend many people.
---Gordon on 2/25/08|
If one is a (insert your religious organization) with belief in (insert a belief of your religious organization) if another person of your "faith" decided a belief your entire religious org believed in wasn't truth anymore then the one declaring untruth must be corrected in love ...and in many situations this may become offensive to the person being corrected but that is part of keeping everyone on track
---Rhonda on 2/24/08|
2) sometimes the only common denominator is Christ ...unfortuneatly many feel it's their personal responsiblity to correct everyone who disagree with their beliefs (initially was frustrating - now I find it funny) ...blogging Christians (in the name of Christ) becoming so obnoxious it contradicts their 'love' of Christ ...declaring others to be unsaved, of the devil, no Holy Spirit etc etc
---Rhonda on 2/24/08|
3) if someone were looking to 'save' someone outside of Christ they would be loving ...'showing love' seems to go the wayside - at least sometimes on this blog
---Rhonda on 2/24/08|
4)in my 'off-line' life I live work with various brands of christianity - never experienced people making declarations to others not of 'their brand' as being unsaved, not of God, etc
telling others what their personal relationship with Christ and God is (or is not) from a blog posting is absurd ...telling someone they error in truth or questioning their opinions as bogus is fine ..to be telling others they are unsaved is just plain obnoxious - nobody but GOD knows what is in any Christians heart
---Rhonda on 2/24/08|
StrongAxe, The kind of Truth that I'm referring to on this Blog is the Truth of the Scriptures, GOD's Doctrinal Truths. NOT the truths of people's personal lives. GOD's Truths must always be declared. With Love and Godly Courage. Standing up for what is True and Right. All Lies and Deceptions, no matter HOW SWEET WITH 'GOOD' INTENTIONS, are to be firmly rebuked. Did YAHUSHUA smile sweetly when He called the religious leaders a Brood of Snakes, and Whitewashed Tombs full of Rotting Corruption? NO.
---Gordon on 2/24/08|
no we shouldn,t but iam really getting tired of so called intellectuals attacking my faith.

The Bible says that you MUST either be hot or cold, if you are lukewarm, Jesus will spit you out of His mouth. The Bible says that you cannot serve both God and the world (money, people). You MUST choose to either go with the world and offend God, or go with God and offend the world. You cannot have it both ways of not offending anyone. Yes, when you go with God, you WILL offend the world (people). Jesus offended lots of people.
---Leslie on 2/23/08|
I have no problem with people who present the truth forthrightly, and may offend people whose egos may be fragile.
However, I DO have a problem with people who think their message is so important that they rush in like a bull in a china shop, and who don't care about breaking everyone else's dishes, and feel offended that people get upset when they do.
---StrongAxe on 2/22/08|
StrongAxe, That is true that you have to deliver the Truth in lovingkindness. But, SOMETIMES simple frank, straightforwardness is mistaken for rudeness, when the hearer is really just being convicted inside of their "error or sin" and no matter how the Truth is spoken, it just always appears to be "too rude, and 'none of one's business'"
---Gordon on 2/22/08|
Thank you Brother Rob for that encouragement. I admit, at times it's hard to "turn and shake the dust off your feet" when you think that MAYBE, they just might not have heard enough sides of the Truth that you're trying to convey. Yes, there is a time to say "I've presented the Truth to this person, and they are clearly not open to receive it so now it's no more 'pearls before swine', I'll shut up and let them stand alone before GOD for Him to deal with it.

As a Recruiter in God's Air Force, I have notice three groups will be offended.
1)Those in the army, navy, or marines but that's Okay, we all work harder then.
2) Those of my sworn enemy (John 10:10a) will be offended of course, but often times, they can be converted.
3)The civilians in the battle zone are often offended by my words and actions, BUT I make absolutely sure, they are not pointedly, pointed at them, because that's where most of the new recruits come from.

No...It happens often enough with my regular conversation.
The bible warns of offending..
a.) Against the little ones, you get to swim with a mil-stone(about 100-200lbs) around your neck!
b.)Of not warning those not living a godly life.(Ezekiel 3:17, 18) Then you must throw them into hell personally! Ouch!
c.)Those offended accidentally around us.
See Mark 9:42-48 I don't want anyone to go to hell because of me, BUT I do want anyone who wants to get there be successfull!
---timotheus on 2/21/08|
Gordon, I encourage you to maintain you stand on sharing GOD'S TRUTHS.

---Rob on 2/21/08|
It's OK if it's the TRUTH that offends someone. Unfortunately, many people use that as excuse to be rude and argumentative.
It's sad when someone is preventing from recognizing the truth because, even though they are receptive to it, they are offended by the PACKAGE the truth is wrapped in.

We should try not to make an enemy out of someone who could otherwise be saved. However, if the truth offends them, that is their fault, not ours. The Bible says many people will go to Hell because they prefer the lies to the truth.

YES! The Saints should stand up for the Truths of GOD and firstly for GOD Himself and His Son YAHUSHUA. The Truth will ALWAYS OFFEND MANY WICKED PEOPLE and UNGODLY, DISOBEDIENT "Christians". If we Saints do not declare the Hard Truth when we need to (because of cowardice and fear of man) then we are COMPROMISING. It's NOT EASY. I've failed a number of times. But, I've LEARNED.
