I Don't Understand God

There are some things that I just don't understand. Example: Why God allows innocent people to be victims of violent crimes. Has anyone else ever thought or felt this way?

I believe God is in absolute control. So, it is wise to simply trust Him, like the Bible says to do . . . to be absolutely submissive to Him, like it or not >

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
. And lean not on your own understanding,
. In all your ways acknowledge Him,
. And He shall direct your paths."
(Proverbs 3:5-6)

I acknowledge You as being in absolute control and trust You accordingly, as well as You bless me to (2 Corinthians 3:5)

"Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21)

Do not let evil overcome you to not have hope in God. Evil does not want you to trust in God. Also, I would not allow evil to decide if you are forgiving or not, and happy or not. Because we know what choice evil will make, so you keep on suffering, so you are weak enough for Satan to control you. With God, we can overcome any evil, at all, mainly by not letting it get the better of us.

Be glad you know it is wrong to hurt innocent people, sag. Not everyone realizes this. Don't take this for granted. Thank God that you know. And let's make sure we don't hurt people by our arguing, which can damage our kids. And be a good example by not complaining > "Do all things without complaining and disputing," (Philippians 2:14) Make sure we don't hurt people by being a bad example in our attitude about God. He has done us good, by making us able to know right from wrong.

Frances, so are you. God loves us Perfectly. He gives us only as much as we can handle. There have been times when I thought, 'God, I'm not strong enough for this.' God knows all, is All. He is always right. I am grateful for every lesson He has taught me, and will continue to teach.

Deb, what a beautiful person you sound like. Perhaps God allows the worst things to happen to the people he most desires to get into His Flock. Or to keep them leaning on Him. I too have had tragedy in my family. Combined with humiliation. The devil certainly likes to try to discourage us from believing on Jesus Christ.

Someone said below, very intelligently, that God does not allow it. It is true, he won't be letting anyone away with the consequences of their actions, and if they don't repent they will regret everything they did. But in the sense that God cannot prevent people using their free choice to harm others, God does 'allow' it, temporarily.

Emcee, my friend, you are a gentlemen and a loving son of God. Thank you for your kindnesses.

You and all the people who love God so much that they spend time on this site trying to share the truth of God's perfect love are in my prayers tonight. I am not hurt by the pain of another. That part of the amazing gift God has given me.

Thank you again.

God loves us so that he gave us a free will so we can CHOOSE to love him. Adam & Eve chose to introduce sin yet God still found THE way to protect us from death & destruction. He allowed us to torture & kill Jesus so we could still choose between Death & life. How can we blame God for what we do??

deb::In Eternity all pain is erased from mind and body. Your cross on this earth You carry Bravely May He who heals minds and Bodies, also gives you This assurance of Perfection,in the hereafter.God be with You Lady.
---Emcee on 4/9/08

Thank you Catherine. God is blessing us! One day you and I will rejoice in the Lord together, along with all of God's children. I look forward to meeting you.

I don't know who originally said this, but trying to fit Elohim's infinite logic into our little finite minds is like trying to fit the Atlantic Ocean inside of a thimble.

I've always looked at this 2 ways. One, He owes me no explanation for anything that He does. This is His universe, not mine. My job is to accept, trust, obey, fear and love Him anyway. And, two, since I can't see into eternity and He can, I just trust that He knows best even if it hurts or feels uncomfortable to me for a time.

deb>>> I love what you wrote. May God bless you.

I was sexually abused throughout my childhood by my father, and though it was terrible, God was always with me.

I learned I could withstand anything because God was with me. I believe the most valuable lessons I've learned have come through hardship. Those lessons will stay with me throughout eternity.
---deb on 4/8/08

Yes. All the time. I've got two children as well as two brothers in Heaven. My father and I have lamented for years about this. I don't think it's the case, though. Listen to a song called "God Weeps, Too," by Eli. It's helped me through some real tough times. . .
---tabit8547 on 4/8/08

Throughout the untold and unnumbered trillions and trillions of years in timeless eternity each child of God can double his or her learning about the Creator each year and yet never even remotely exhaust the awsome height, depth, or length to be known of the person of God. >>O" the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways pass finding out"! Romans 11:33.
---catherine on 3/21/08

1)Jesus said,In the world you shall have tribulation (John 16:33).Trials and distress are part of what it means to be human in a fallen world. It's in times of despair and sorrow that we reach out to Him and if we are His children,we always find Him there waiting to comfort and uphold us through it all.In this way,He proves His faithfulness to us and ensures that we will stay close to Him. As we experience Gods comfort through trials, we are then able to comfort others in the same way (2 Corinthians 1:4).

If God didn't allow humanity to have free will, there could be no such thing as LOVE on this earth. In other words, if there were no possibility for the OPPOSITE of love (hate), neither could we show LOVE to each other. OPPOSITES MUST EXIST.

There could be no love on earth if the contrast/opposite was not also an option.

God is LOVE, but HUMANITY (by nature) is not. It is each person's own decision whether or not to CHOOSE love in their heart and mind.
---greg on 3/11/08

God doesn't allow those things.
---Linda on 3/8/08

I find it nearly impossible to believe man can doubt God enough to be a murderer and a thief. Or that men (and women) can be such poor examples of how to live for their children to see and learn from. What we must realize is God is God. It is we who should take away sin by following Him. Just think, contrary to John Lennen, there IS a heaven and a hell. All manner of horrors could be done away with if we all believed the Bible, and practiced it the best we can.

SAG::You are not required to know God's actions, except to know they are GOOD. Your duty is to know God, love and serve Him strive to be perfect, so that one day you will share in HIS Glory as promised. What you see is the work of satan-no connection.

God is no respect of persons. Things happen that no one can explain why. It isn't God's fault that bad things happen to good people. It is because of this corrupt world we live in. Just because there is a bad apple in a bushel doesn't mean their all bad. People just "assume" they are all bad.
---Rebecca_D on 3/6/08

Shirley shared, "If you could understand everything about God HE wouldn't be God." And Paul says, God's ways are "past finding out", in Romans 11:33. I can wonder how You, God, who have such control of things, do not prevent pedophile predation, psychopath serial killing, terrorists torturing innocent people . . . . But one thing, sag > with God, we can make things better, that's good enough for me.
---Bill_bila5659 on 3/6/08

Jesus said, the thief cometh to steal, kill and destroy, but I came that they may have life and life abundantly. If the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and if He gives His angels charge over you, wouldn't it make sense that satan prowls about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour? We've been given authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, but we don't fully understand the power behind this authority, thus we don't use it.
---Donna on 3/6/08

God gives man a free will and says to him choose life. Satan is the price of the power of the air. We are all subject to satan's attacks. True believers in Christ Jesus have the power to bind the enemy and keep him bound. Behold I've given YOU authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions so that NOTHING shall injure you. We aren't studying the word closely enough, thus we're blaming God for evil. Keep praising Him and worshipping Him and Keep pleading the blood of Jesus and satan must flee.

Sag: Answers to your questions are in the Bible. Like any book, you must read it from cover-to-cover to get a logical understanding of the contents. By doing so, you have an opportunity to believe & trust in God's Word (Jesus Christ) & understand on a spiritual level things taught by God, The Holy Spirit.

Bible themes: 1.) Generation - God created mankind. 2.) Degeneration - Man chose to fall into SIN. 3.) Regeneration - God makes a way for "us" to get out of SIN (rebellion).
---Leon on 3/6/08

We have to learn to look at what goes on down here as redeemable, because it is.
When God renews his creation Justice will be finished, and all the malefactors who think that God has missed their iniquities will be faced with their judge.
The work of justice and equity is all but executed, finished on the cross of Christ.

The orphan and the widow do not cry alone as we suppose. The time has come to stop making up our own mind about what we see, and listen to the counsel of God in faith.
---Pharisee on 3/6/08

Yes before I understood that everyone has a choice to do goog or evil and is accountable for what they do. God therefore gave us a big book outlining his guidelines and we have the ability to either accept or reject them, hence the many good things people do so too comes the evil. That free choice came with free will, we are not robots, we al have A Choice!

Who does understand God? Who understands me? I have a split personality. I am one way in the pulpit and another way out of it. We are not commanded to understand God. However, we are commanded to love God with ALL of our soul, mind, body, intellect. I can almost see God's face. Sometimes even His expression.

**As the old gospel song says we'll understand it all bye and bye after Jesus returns.

Or maybe we won't understand--but we'll have better things to think about by that point.
---Jack on 3/6/08

sag.god has put into man a free will to make the choice to sin.these include the violent crimes you speak of.believe me god will judge these one day,as he will with all choices everyone has made ,and he will do it personally one on one.

God rains on the just and unjust.
He doesn't send evil and God does not lie.

Since the fall, sin entered in.
We have Jesus Christ to redeem us from sin.

We all have to go back to the Well, each and every day, for we do not know what tomorrow may bring.
---Cindy on 3/5/08

If you could understand everything about God HE wouldn't be God.Some things take place because of the sin of Adam in yielding to satan. Some of the things that take place are because of the free will men and women all have.As the old gospel song says we'll understand it all bye and bye after Jesus returns.
