How many here would support prayer in schools if that meant equal time for Buddhist, Hindu, Wiccan, and Muslim prayer, too?

Mima:: You being some sort of an evangelist would welcome the Idea of teaching and spreading the word of God on impressionable Tender Minds, in their school years which they spend,8 of the 16 waking Hours of each day.But NO Jesus says The kingdom of Heaven is made of one such as these and you say no dont teach,it is not the right Place.OH thou of little faith.
---Emcee on 6/25/08

The answer to this question about prayer in the school is simply this. Religious training and instruction starts in the home, preferably on your mothers knee. There is no place for denominational religious training in public schools.
---Mima on 6/25/08

A school is a public place seperate from religion. If they granted us,as chrisitans to say prayer, then yes the other religions have freewill to say their own.It is not right for us to be granted the only ones to have prayer. We might not agree with the other religions, but this is America.

Todd!::Wish millions more had the same desire as you
---Emcee on 6/18/08

Emcee, if it were up to me, I would have schools start each day with prayer to God, and even use the Bible as one of our textbooks, as it was a hundred years ago before sin and perversion were so readily accepted in society.
---Todd1 on 6/17/08

Todd1::If it is opposed to God's will it is Not True if not true it is false False is idol worship against Comm#1

Todd1:There is a place for every thing and everything in its place.called uniformity. That said, There is a time to eat,a time to sleep, play, work, etc even a time to worship set by God. Why not a set time to pray in school at the start of each class day.Teach our children the need for prayer at all aspects of our life.
---Emcee on 6/17/08

Any child who wants to pray in school today can pray. What exactly is the question? Should Christianity be made the official religion of the USA?
---Janze on 6/17/08

No, they wont. Because eventually, in spite of the left's attempt to remove God from our country, tribulation will cause everyone to come running to God. will be a liberal Christianity, opposed to God's true will.
---Todd1 on 6/17/08

Todd: They may try, but they can't get away with it in the long run. My own daughter held a Bible study during lunch when she was in sixth grade.

The Supreme Court has consistently upheld that such clubs can meet, on their own time. Christians need to know their rights and may have to seek legal avenues to avail themselves of such.
---Trish9863 on 6/15/08

But schools have tried to ban "Bible clubs" or "Christian clubs" from forming on their own free (lunch) time.
---Todd1 on 6/14/08

Todd: Schools cannot deny students the right to pray, as long as their prayer does not disrupt the class. Nobody has said that schools prevent students from praying if they choose to.
---Trish9863 on 6/14/08

I would. Who said anything about equal time? A school shouldn't force kids to pray at a set time. But it should not try to ban children from praying of their own free will.
---Todd1 on 6/13/08

God hears Childrens prayers more than adults. The foundation of our FUTURE lies in the prayers of The Children.God loves Children "Heaven is made of such as these""teach the children the love of God"Make it compulsory in our schools teach it by those authorised to administer His truth not any TDH.
---Emcee on 6/9/08

Prayer in school is very important. We see how are schools are now battlezones prayer would change that. Parents have a important role in this. Prayer should be a staple in the home just like food. God wants us to be filled with his words too. Prayer is necessary and should not be put on the shelf till needed. Prayer sholud be a daily activity.
---michelle on 6/9/08

WHAT? Prayer in ANY school has NEVER been done away with. Anyone can pray anytime they want to. Just do it so no one can hear but God. Isn't this what Jesus taught when He said do it in the closit?

Catherine::since you advocate freedom. You will agree 1.the freedom to do RIGHT(Good) 2 The freedom to do wrong (Evil)Is this not what is happening today.which Freedom would you Choose.By your statement you lean the other way
---Emcee:: on 6/6/08

Freedoms can not be one-sided, can not be for only God's true people. I do note that it would be of a great benefit for schools today, to bring God back in and to tell Satan to get OUT.

Pierr::I agree the family that prays together stays together. If you have faith and pray you can move mountains .But prayer in school is still a high Priority

Catherine-Did I sound religious? Sure hope not, that is one spirit I don't want to be a part of. Passionate follower of Christ is my desire.
---melann on 4/23/08

Prayer is allowed in school. Unless of course you mean corporate cohersive forced prayer. Then to make it acceptable it should start - Our father, mother, higher power, nonbeing, . . . Think I will stick to teaching my kids at home about God. Let the teachers deal with math, reading, writing, etc.
---dan on 4/20/08

Don't you worry about that, I always do. I just don't always sound so religious.

Much of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence was based on the bible. Ben Franklin declared that we could not establish a nation without God's help. If this country is founded on God, why do people live here who serve or pray to another god? When we had prayer in school to the true God, school was different. We didn't have all these shootings. Maybe we should let them pray. Jesus is above every name. We serve a living God. They don't. What could their "prayers" produce?
---melann on 4/18/08

Jack I mean there is but one God. Christianity is the only true religion. So, ofcourse, the answer to your question is YES. We need God's help. Any other god that you might pray to can do absolutely zero for the human race. And this true God which I speak of is the human race's Creator. So, why not only talk to the Creator of heaven and earth and everything therein. Just pure logic and faith! +++
---catherine on 4/10/08

Hello Jack:: I don't know if you understood me at all.I dont believe I said what you interpret. Prayer is an integral part of our upbringing, it acknowleges our Trust in God and as such should not be removed from the education of Children. This removal relegates our children away from God who is our sole purpose for living in His existance.Hope I helped.Belling the cat is a different story.

BTW Jack:: when I was in School at the startof the day The prayer would be said AUDIBLY Our Father Hail Mary and glory be" ALL would stand RESPECTFULLY with heads Bowed NO objections as this was the rule of the School. You come to My House Please obey My Rules. If Not Seek your freedom of expression elsewhere or mentally observe your own thing. This is a christian or Catholic Institution.
---Emcee on 4/9/08

The joyful worship of the Lord should not produce discord. I worship God all day long. Wouldn't it be great if kids knew they had that same freedom? Wouldn't it be great if every kid knew that God was with them at every moment of the day and night?

Wouldn't it be great if every kid knew God was listening, and all they had to do was ask, and that no one has the right to squash what is in their precious hearts?
---deb on 4/9/08

catherine: **However, God's people should not bow to any laws which are contrary to God's laws. **

Do you mean that only Christian prayers should be allowed in public schools?
---Jack on 4/9/08

A better idea would be to let each person, whatever their religion, to take a few moments during their day and say a prayer in their own way. This time could be set aside purposely to pray. I would support the Buddhist,Hindu etc..I may not agree with their prayers and their religion but I would respect them and what they do. That would be the best choice.

Dumb question! Those religions are not praying to the real, true, God. There can only be one God. The answer is no. We don't need to make God any angrier than He already is.>>>However, God's people should not bow to any laws which are contrary to God's laws. Talk to Him anywhere, any place. God says we can.
---catherine on 4/9/08

So, Emcee, if Christians are allowed to lead vocal audible prayers in public schools, you're saying that adherents of other religions should have equal time.

Do I understand you properly?

(I can't help wondering where people got the idea that prayers in public schools would all be evangelical Christian devotions.)
---Jack on 4/9/08

ONE Creator - FACT::This creator is envisioned in the mind, people who pray use this as a yardstick in conjunction with their intellect,by praying we invoke that Creator by acknowleging HIM as Director. Why do we Feel ashamed to seek Him openly If we believe in Him. Is it not better, than deleting Him from our daily activity while seeking His love.Is this a message we should be teaching Our off spring and Future generations. Our most precious Commodity "OUR CHILDREN"
---Emcee on 4/9/08

If you are ashamed to ask GOD for Guidance then you should declare Openly That you have No use for Him at least you cannot be termed a HYPOCRITE.It is amazing how we can send the wrong Massage to those who are in OUR care.Is it Pride or Ignorance.?

I am a public school teacher. I could not lead my class in a prayer that would be any old prayer for any religion, as it would violate my personal beliefs. I would prefer that people pray on their own time, at home, and leave school for the secular study.
---Trish9863 on 4/8/08

I think a few moments of silence might be useful. But I don't think school prayer in general is a good idea. That is unless it is a Christian school.
---NVBarbara on 4/8/08

I would not wish to see this in schools. Christians have the capability to pray whenever and wherever they wish, silently. God hears ever though others do not. We can pray at length or for a few seconds as and when appropriate to our needs and opportunities. Those who need a particular setting, structure, leader etc. are at a great disadvantage where prayer is concerned.

Nope, I'd rather keep it as it is, NO PRAYER, but they can't stop a real Christian from praying anywhere he/she is.

That's why this policy doesn't really hurt so much.
---pharisee on 4/8/08

Once my father was on a school board. He was very lenient towards the Catholic children riding the public schools buses. This caused him untold trouble but he never voted against them riding the bus. He said public monies are to be used for public purposes. And I would add public monies or not to be used for any particular denomination. Once prayers are aloud in the schoos by individual denominations. You have a crossing of that line of public monies being spent for the public good.
---Mima on 4/8/08

I think kids of all faiths should be allowed to pray--but usually in like a time of silent prayer, also if it's silent prayer, it won't bother kids who don't want to pray at all.
