Green tea I hear is excellent in aiding weight loss. At least 2 to 3 cups a day. Also the amt of antiodants benefits that comes with is worth the try.

I was thin when I got married, gained some aft being home even with working. The fridge & her sweets fixins kept calling me. I prayed & prayed for a long-long time that The Lord would take the desire for sweets away from me & He did. I was 58 at that time with a 44 waist, along with leaving the swets alone I started taking this 1000-mg Hoodia, did some walking exercise,I'm almost 61 with an 41 1/2 waist. Upper body excercise I was unable to do because of damaged shoulder rotator cuffs. I sure do feel a lot better,No straining to bend over to put on or take off my shoes & socks. Prayer sure helps.

I have a problem with water weight. It is mainly because I was not drinking enough water! When one isn't getting enough water their body stores extra-like there is going to be a long draught. Also, the liver helps aid with metabalism. When the body stores alot of water that just sits around the liver has to work more aid the kidneys in purifying it-thus it can't use it's full potential toward metabalism. This is just the begining. :-)best to everyone and may you all have a wonderful weekend. Love, Kella

I lost 10 pounds recently due to gastritis. I was in the hospital for several days but had loss of appetite and other symprom for several weeks, prior to that. I would like to lose more weight but not through sickness. I need to lose more. My original weight was 110-125 pounds yrs ago. My appetite has not returned completely but I would like to continue losing even when it)appetite) does return. Any suggestions?
---Robyn on 6/18/08

Yeah, it's good to get the weight down so less is wearing down on the joints. My life has slowed down because I'm older, got somewhat injured, and am not employed. But I have lost weight, I'd say. Why? I stopped watching TV, because my Internet relating with real people with real lives is more interesting, now I devote to my friends, rather than to eating and TV. I am cleaning and cooking while I stand and walk around eating, then back to personal devotion with Internet friends and reaching needy people. Caring has brought a different lifestyle which makes losing weight natural, I guess.

Hi, I'm a 330 lb. man and I'll be 63 next month, if God permits. I just started a diet of sorts this week. I can't do it on my own. I know only God can do it. You see, seven years ago I quite smoking cigarettes and I balooned up to this weight. I know if I lose this weight I'll feel better and be able to move better. Prayer will help. Thanks, and God bless.

Cynthia sister, thank you for the encouragement. It can be discouraging. I want to shop for clothes without being concerned on how fat I look. I am not obese, so I tried to overlook my weight for these past few years..I used to be small. There are times where I feel like crying. Encouragement means alot:-):-):-)
---Kella3336 on 5/9/08

to my dear sister Kella,
I used to weigh 270 lbs. About 13 years ago I started making lifestyle changes such as cutting out sweets and weight lifting. I lost 150 lbs and have kept it off for at least 10 years. Stay active and watch what you eat. Its ok to eat something that I call forbidden foods at times just watch your portion size. I applaud you sister and I believe that you will get to the weight you are trying to achieve. God Bless you sis...

I know about many people in churches where their "weight" might be connected with things like: cancer, diabetes, heart attacks, chronic pain, amputations, needing a wheelchair, etc.

I always "bite my tongue" and don't say anything. However, the entire USA population is paying for it's "weight" problems via higher health care costs, skyrocketing insurance premiums, etc. I have the feeling that someday I will "speak my mind" pretty badly.

Amer. Heart Assoc.

High protein diets cause a number of health problems:

Kidney failure. Consuming too much protein puts a strain on kidneys, which can make a person susceptible to kidney disease.

High cholesterol. It is well known that high protein diets (consisting of red meat, whole dairy products, and other high fat foods) are linked to high cholesterol. Studies have linked a high cholesterol levels to an increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke and cancer.
---Marcia on 5/7/08

Osteoporosis and kidney stones. High protein diets cause people to excrete more calcium than normal through their urine. Over a prolonged period of time, this increases a person's risk of osteoporosis and kidney stones.

Cancer. High protein diets increase the risk of cancer because of avoidance of carbohydrate-containing foods, vitamins, minerals, fiber, anti-oxidants. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables reduce your risk of developing cancer.
---Marcia on 5/7/08

Unhealthy metabolic state (ketosis). Low carb diets can cause your body to go into a dangerous metabolic state called ketosis since your body burns fat instead of glucose for energy. During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure. Ketones can also dull a person's appetite, cause nausea and bad breath. Ketosis is prevented by eating at least 100 grams of carbohydrates a day.
---Marcia on 5/7/08

High-protein, low carb diets cause a host of health problems for the large segment of the population that is at risk for heart disease. This plan doesn't permit a high intake of fruits and vegetables, recommended by nutrition experts because of the numerous documented health benefits from these foods.

To achieve permanent weight loss you must change your lifestyle. Following a lower calorie diet that includes grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables combined with regular physical activity.

There is no verified evidence that high protein diets cause kidney damage. Kidney damage is cause by dehydration, all high protein diets call for an increase in hydration. As science studies diets, we finally are understanding the role that protein plays in balancing metobolism and the body's response to sugars. Read, read, read.

I want to be at my ideal weight(130-135). I felt at my best then. I am not doing it for my health only, but my appearence as well. It is frustrating when trying on clothes and finding ones that I feel good in. My clothes are looser, so that is a plus...minus lol. All the best to everyone and thank you...
---Kella3336 on 5/7/08

Yes, I am. If only I didn't have the habit of a mid-night snack, I do believe that I would be quicker about it. I get out most days and work in my yard. God is helping me. But this habit of getting hungry in the middle of the night needs to go. I believe well, it's not as much of a problem in the day time because I am more active. But here comes twelve in the morning. Don't get me wrong I am not very fat. Weigh more than I would like to.

Trish, All the best to you:-):-):-). You are inspirational! That does not leave any excuses for me... For me lately it has been exercise like sit ups etc. Something that has also helped is avoiding sugary sodas(and high fructose corn syrup makes us more hungry!),lean meat, veggies and fruit... These are a few things. Sometimes I do not want to excercise...but it will be worth it in the end:-)again all the best to you.

1. My son used the Atkins diet with great success. There are many negative things said about it, because of the amount of protein and FAT which can be eaten in the first few weeks. What those who oppose the diet don't broadcast is that, gradually, all other foods are reintroduced into one's diet, including fruit and vegetables, which opponents always say the users of the diet must not eat.
---RitaH on 5/7/08

2. Anyone interested should read as much about it as possible first. Atkins had a great impact on the food industry. Sales of some foods shot up and others went down because many no longer wanted the sugar laden foods. Many in the food industry were very unhappy with Atkins and tried to blacken his name. To some extent they succeeded.

You'd think busting my toosh after work and eating nothing but fruits and vegetables for 3 months would have lost me a little bit aside the 5#'s of water weight that just leaves the body.

I'm sorry for bellyaching like that (no pun intended) and I'm glad for you who have found success in your weight loss goals. I just hope I can catch up to mine too. Or at least ask God to make me "auto immune" to the lonliness I feel from those that are only concerned with the outside. Blessings!

Because high-protein diets can damage the kidneys. Remember optifast, it damaged the kidneys. High protein diets when used longterm can harm your health. There is no easy fix, no permanent solution. A real change of heart, will is the only way to keep weight off.
---Marcia on 5/6/08

Are the Dr. Atkins diets a better solution than trying to lose weight, gain it all back, and the cycle repeats?

I once had a friend who told me that the "magical" thing about the Atkins diets is that you can eat as much as you want. Just be sure that the food is protein. Leave out carbohydrates and be careful about sugar.

I've never tried the Atkins diets and don't know if this formula works or not. I'm not sure why nobody seems to talk about Atkins diets anymore.

Even drastic measures are not a permanent solution.
The best way is to create a will to change inside before we supersize ourselves.

I've watched my cousin go through too many serious setbacks to find it the miracle cure everyone expects it to be. She would have died from too much weight but she almost died after the surgery, too. She flatlined in the ambulance. She said she doesn't remember a thing. She flatlined in her home before the ambulance arrived.
---Marcia on 5/5/08

She did not have a pulse.
A family member happened to stop by, that was God, and called 911. She was gone in the chair.
She didn't see a bright light, she didn't see anything or remember being gone. She cannot remember the ambulance or anything until they revived her.
For some reason, that bothers me. Why did she not see or remember anything? Why did she not hear from God while her breath was gone?
---Marcia on 5/5/08

If you can safely lose the weight before reaching a point of no return, that would be my suggestion.
There are risks with surgery and you have to "weigh" those out, too.

You can reach your dream, goal for less coin.

Take that 50,000 for initial surgery, the other 20,000 for plastic surgery, and use it for something more tranquil. Home improvements to beautify your surroundings and give you a retreat every day, or take a mission trip. There's so many things you can do with the money if you set your will to change and not consider life one big diet.

I am trying to lose a bit of weight. I find that going out for a walk for half an hour or more not only uses up some spare calories, but gives one something to think about apart from food. Also, doing without snacks between meals, (except apples etc) and even a day without food, which can be combined with prayer for someone in need, is great for weight loss, though that is not the motivation.
---frances008 on 5/3/08

I see people in churches, even Pastors, who seem to see over-eating, or gluttony, as "acceptable" SIN. Hmmm.

What is even more surprising is that over-weight people don't seem to understand WHY their body "aches" so much. I think that their body's hips, knees, ankles, etc. are trying to tell them something:

"I'm being CRUSHED from holding up too much weight. Please, Please, Please. Take the extra weight off before your body totally collapses!"

You are so right. Without a permanent change in eating behavior, the old ways right back.

I remember reading about gastric bypass surgery when it first became available. The surgery was advertised, and marketed, as the ULTIMATE weight loss solution. Get the surgery and your weight problems will be gone. Forever.

Your blogs have "opened my eyes to modern day reality". Without a change in eating habits, the weight problem finds it's way back into a person's life.
---Augie on 5/3/08

I wanted to lose some weight, but not alot. Mostly I wanted to build muscle. After having 9 surgeries (8 surgeries due to kidney stones/1 hysterectomy) within a year, I lost a lot of weight. I used to weight about 130 lbs. Now I weight 96 lbs. Most people are trying to lose weight, I am trying to gain weight. It is a slow process. At times I eat and eat well. But at times I hurt so bad, that the pain takes away my appetite. I want to weight around 115 lbs.
---Rebecca_D on 5/3/08

"I heard a sermon one day, where the preacher said that gluttony was the acceptable sin" He obviously found that in the gospel according to HIMSELF.

I didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, but weight loss surgery is not all it's made out to be. Without behavior mod, the old habits come right back into play.

To stop a bad habit, create a will to change.

A Christian can pray and ask God for a will to change. It's the only way to stop any bad habit for the rest of your life.

Without a change of will, we can rely on others to bolster us up, be our accountability partner, but it's usually only temporary. When we're left on our own, our old ways try to come right back.
---Marcia on 5/2/08

If you have a bypass, get the plastic surgery when you're done. Loose skin is so depressing, it makes people start eating themselves back into it. Eat the tiny portions the doctor prescribed and don't up your intake or it comes back.

I was reading today's news stories about health insurance premiums "increasing" and the "risks" of obesity, chronic illnesses, drugs, and surgery, and I was painfully reminded about this:

There are "risks" with any drugs and/or surgeries. The "safest" type of weight loss is "self discipline". Eat "less" and exercise "more".

You can do it. I did and still am. I'm not bragging. Just want others to be healthy.
---Augie on 5/2/08

I lost 25 lbs once and I keep it off by going to the YMCA almost every morning before going to work. I try not to eat sweets. I lost another 3 lbs recently. I noticed that if I worry about something, I loose weight. Well, to be anxious and to worry is not a solution to loosing weight. Exercise is. Also, I go for a walk every night when it's warm outside. This helps too. Bike riding is helpful also. Another solution is swimming.

Some years ago I lost unwanted weight by simply cutting out most sugars from my diet (those I knew I didn't need - we can't avoid many hidden sugars of course). However, more recently I've lost a lot of weight without trying and medical checks cannot find out why. I do not want to eat unhealthily to put it back on so this leaves me with the opposite problem to many people. Any suggestions?
---RitaH on 5/2/08

While I was a corpsman in a Navy hospital, the civies cooked some pretty tasty food, and I put on ten pounds without seeing it coming. I was aghast > no salad dressing or dessert or meat dishes with sauce > it was off quick, BUT it was ego that dominated me to take it off.

Now, as a Christian, I trust God to guide me about what to eat, in His micro-managerial detailed leading. And, "be content with such things as you have", we have in Hebrews 13:5. Appreciate whatever I am to eat.

Ever notice that all diet pill ads have that little disclaimer that says to take them in conjunction with a "diet and exercise regimen?" My sister had stomach stapled years ago when she weighed almost 400 pounds. Did not stick to diet afterwards and now is back up close to 400. The only way to lose and keep it off is to change eating habits and exercise habits.

It looks like the only permanent solution to weight problems is SELF CONTROL, commonly termed DISCIPLINE, as mentioned in the Bible. There are many Bible verses about SELF CONTROL. Too many to list in only 85 words. You can do a Google search on these words. The very best way to lose, and control weight, is to seek after GOD for help.

Hi Kella: I am currently losing weight. I had gastric bypass surgery, and am in the process of approaching my goal weight. I had hernia surgery in December, and then an infection in my leg a month ago, so my exercise was not what it needed to be, so my weight loss slowed down, but I am getting back on track now that my health has returned.

What is working for you? Exercise is key for me.
---Trish9863 on 5/1/08

Yes Marcia there are alot of places on the internet where people talk about weight loss. Maybe Kella wanted views from other Christians. People talk about politics, bad marriages, and everything else here. Why not weight loss if someone wants to talk about it and encourage others? It is a Christian thing to do to try to encourage other people with things that they struggle with, like weight loss.
---Mary28 on 5/1/08

With the bypass, a drop of 100 or 150 lbs.
If you don't maintain the small tiny amounts but cheat the system, tiny amounts throughout the day, it piles back on because the metabolism slows down. It's not the miracle cure everyone hopes for if you do not maintain the discipline regime they tell you to follow. Which means more exercise that you did to lose the initial 100 or 150 lbs.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

There is no permanent solution. All of it requires discipline. Incredibly boring, isn't it.
After this drastic surgery, you still have to eat very tiny portions. The other thing is the problems with hernias, and other side effects, anemia. One of my cousins almost died 3 years after her bypass in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

The sad thing is that she's probably put 50 or 60 of those lbs back on. There's a celebrity who had the surgery, she's put alot of lbs back on, too (cw).

So if you like to eat in restaurants, it will come back on faster. Join a food delivery service and have it measured out for you, if you don't have discipline.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

One thing I learned from her. If you do get a bypass, better have that additional plastic surgery that goes along with it ASAP.
If you don't, those without discipline are the first ones that grow right back into all of their skin. Those that get the surgery maintain their loss better. But then again (cw) had that surgery, she still gained.

It's a mindset and behavior mod goes along with it.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

Not so. Those who've had gastric bypass, after a year or two, start gaining.
Metabolism slows down to a crawl once again after forced starvation. Small, little tiny amounts. The body compensates.
I know people who have managed to beat the bypass, so to speak. They eat small amounts all day long and the weight piles back on rapidly. Sad but true.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

I've always been a believer in the weight loss formula: eat LESS and exercise MORE. Forgive me if I seem to not be understanding here. I've never had weight loss surgery. Anyway, how can someone possibly gain weight back after gastric bypass surgery?

I thought that that type of surgery was a PERMANENT solution to weight problems. The stomach is made smaller leaving less room for food. Less food in the stomach, and in the body, means less weight total. Right?
---Augie on 5/1/08

There are 1000's of weight loss blogs out there. You should try one. All they do is talk about their latest diet, amount of weight loss, daily food intake, lbs. lost per week, lbs. gained back after the weekend, and they are incredibly boring, I must say. But you should try one, because there are 1000's of people trying to lose weight because it makes them feel better.

There are gastric bypass blogs that encourage one another because after they bypass, they find themselves gaining all of the weight back once again. No more options after a bypass. Endless number of blogs about losing weight.
Bottom line for big bottoms, if you sit on it all day long in front of a computer, without exercise, you will gain weight. If you pull yourself away from the table, computer and move around, you can either maintain or lose weight. The end of the big ends.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

Weight loss and weight gain is personal.
How many times you take a bath per week is personal.
How much you eat, counting calories, eating canned vegetables, it's very boring.
Why not join one of the mail order food programs, have it delivered to your door, stick to it. Everything is figured out for you, no guessing, no cooking.
---Marcia on 5/1/08

I'm slim and trim, but I need to watch myself, just like anyone on a diet > I mostly boil what I cook, skim fat, make hand made whole wheat breads, eat lots of veggies and fruit with minerals and vities. And I don't sit and devote to eating, but I keep busy cooking and cleaning while I eat, and devote to loving people by Internet sharing. So, my attention goes more to loving people, not to food. Each morning, I need to get my *attention* first to God, not to plans and pleasure seeking.
