Turk, I like what you said...can you explain more please?

God points to pride as a negative emotion though his Holy Ghost brings joy. Therefore, instead of taking pride in things we should take joy in them. Pride may indicate that which we generate, while joy is that which is given to us.
---Linda on 10/22/08

I beleive that Godly pride is better than self-righteous pride. If a person boasts to much in self-pride,self-destruction will come & will bring you down very low.
---Lawrence on 9/15/08

being proud of your children when they do good,or bear fruit.pride is many things ,but craves praise.desires more, and makes a person think they are better than someone else.too do something seeking praise is accept praise ,especially if its done for the kingdom is wrong.humility is paramount in a christian walk.there is no place for pride.
---tom2 on 8/4/08

Pride as what happened before the fall -yes is bad.
Pride, for lack of a better word when someone refers to taking great care in your appearance (washed, groomed, caring for what God gave you to work with on this earth) is not.
The Term: "Take Pride in..." meaning, When you take care of things given to you or you buy you are showing gratefulness.
When you are thinking that you did it all and God had nothing to do with it, that's when things get sticky. Not good!
---Nicola on 6/23/08

I heard a Christian minister refer to the correlation of pride and joy. God points to pride as a negative emotion though his Holy Ghost brings joy. Therefore, instead of taking pride in things we should take joy in them. Pride may indicate that which we generate, while joy is that which is given to us.

no i dont think all pride is sin.
the Bible says that we can be proud of knowing christ as our savoiur.
---Rahul on 6/4/08

You are so right M. We are to get angry at sin. You will not be in sin.>>>Jesus came across sin and tried to do something about it and it cost Him His life. Ofcourse, I suppose I should add, that it was the Father's will that His only Son died for reasons which ALL true BEILEVERS understand.
---catherine on 6/2/08

Be angry but sin not. Anger is not sin. It's what you do with that anger that could be sin. Having a righteous anger is not sin, but very natural. When someone teaches false doctrine, or misleads someone, or a false gospel...of coarse we get angry.

Paul got angry with the Judiazers in Galatians, as well as calling Peter down for being a hypocrite.
---kathr4453 on 6/1/08

I am curious...I read someone say that anger is a sin...but Jesus Himself was very angry with a righteous over the tables in the synagogue..Jesus did not sin..what is the deal?
---melanie on 5/30/08

god does not divide sin.if he lists it as a sin then all amounts of that certain subject are sin.thats our problem we as a society want to see how close we can get to sin without being affected.when we should be running in the other direction.
---steph3367 on 5/28/08

Who's to say that you are really thanking God. Thank Him for helping you, but you get absolutely no credit. Lets look at this word PRIDE: "Undue confidence in and attention to one's own skills, accomplishments, state, possessions, or position." Note: A desire to to a good job, is not pride, {for God]. It is the opposite of humility, the proper attitude one should have in relation to the living God. PRIDE is rebellion against God because it attributes to oneself the honor and glory MORE>>>
---catherine on 5/28/08

More on pride: due to God alone. Proud persons do not think it necessary to ask forgiveness because they do not admit their sinful conditions.>>I am so great I don't don't have to ask forgiveness from God, because I am so good and so awsome. I am going to heaven anyways, I have been saved. This attitude toward God finds expression in one's attitude toward others, often causing people to have a low estimate of the ability and worth of others and therefore to treat them with either contempt or> >More.
---catherine on 5/28/08

More on Pride>>Cruelty. Some have considered pride to be the root and essence of sin. Others consider it to be sin in its final form. In either case, it is a grievous sin. Some thoughts on pride: Pride of race, spiritual pride, and pride of riches. Jesus denounced pride of race. "I am so proud to be an American". How many times have you heard that saying? We are becoming an hypocritical nation, which is nothing to be proud of. And it is pride. And it stinks. [Holman Bible Dictionary].

Pr 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Pr 29:23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

1jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

I can find around 43 scriptures where pride is mentioned. They all says it's bad. I cannot find one that says it's good.

{Pride] has many distinctions a dictionary's explians pride to be something you admire of one who has done well. The bible' however explains proud in a person/s exalts oneself possibly to the point of failure so I wouldn't use the word proud after looking up it's meaning, I would just give God thanks. (just my opinion)

ALL pride is bad. If one lives Galatians 2:20 then everything you do is Christ in you!

Pride????? No, that comes through Humility. God gives MORE GRACE to the Humble. Jesus gives more of Himself to you, as you empty YOURSELF of any pride! Philippians 2 & 3.
---kathr4453 on 5/25/08

i personally dont believe in pride. its the best way to forget the will of God in our lives.people with too much pride have a very high self esteem with "all-knowing" attitudes
---seme on 5/25/08

pride to a certain degree can be healthy, like good positive esteem, school pride, and such like accomplishment,in giving God the glory, but the character of pride as define in the bible is not good at all. It has a way of superceding it's own bounds and thereby crossing over the line of God's standard. This type of pride think in"I" and try to exalts"I" at any cost. Pride without the discipline of God's word is tresspassing on danger ground.

The people who boast usually have least to boast about. The ones doing the most for the Kingdom of God are doing so in persecution, with obstruction, being ignored, sometimes killed. Their names rarely get beyond their own families. They try to work in as much secrecy as possible to allow them to go on unhindered.

I believe there is a difference between being proud and being full of pride. Not long after I got saved, God called me to sing. I am proud that God has called and used me to spread his word through song. Shortly after my husband got saved, God called him to preach. I am proud of him for doing what God has called him to do. But we are not full of pride. You can tell when someone is full of pride, they only brag on what they have instead of what God has done for them.

bambi, do you have faith in your own prayers?
Do you have faith that you can pray as effectively as anyone else?
I don't recommend books of prayers that someone else prayed for their husband. Those were given to that person for their husband.
God can give you the right prayers to pray for your own husband. They may not be remotely close to what's written in a book of prayers.

If you want a change in your house, start with you. Make a decision to cease judging and being critical of others, something a narcissist does. That means even in writing, you can't write those critical judgments down for others to read. If you can completely turn a 180 from all of those narcissistic traits that cause others to turn away - God can do a miracle at your house.
---jpmiller on 5/16/08

We all have our own cross to bear. We don't make it into heaven because our husband or wife has salvation. We all have to face areas of sin in our life and lay them down.
If you've asked for prayers from the internet and little has changed, it's time to make the changes yourself, on your own with God.
---jpmiller on 5/16/08

Pride (narcissism) is bad when it spends it's entire day, devoting a life to being critical and judgmental of others. At the end of that day you're left with spiritual bankruptcy of the soul. Others begin to learn that a critical spirit is something they want to avoid at all costs. God protects others from those who prefer a narcissisic (pride) mode over God's grace and mercy.
---jpmiller on 5/16/08

God works in mysterious ways, bambi. He reveals what's being spoken about others with a narcissistic tone. There's a spiritual debt for speaking harshly with others, it's returned, reaped, and heaped back upon that critical talking head.

Pride is pride, it blathers and foams at the mouth. Pride blathers on about it's own exploits, but God resists the proud, the prideful.
---Chipper on 5/14/08

"Pride, when defined as 'a just appreciation of one's own worth' is perfectly acceptable when applied to one's deeds."

Isn't this the root problem with pride? No one has any worth or deeds outside of God. Having pride in ones own worth and deeds is exactly what God despises.

Don't fool yourselves, there is no pride acceptable to God.

Pride, when defined as 'a just appreciation of one's own worth' is perfectly acceptable when applied to one's deeds.

But it should not be applied to one's looks. Though one can be justly proud of the physical effort and discipline required to maintain a healthy body, especially if one started out overweight, underweight, and/or sickly.

Willow it's not pride if you give credit where its due,to God. I know you are also grateful. It is God who lifts up or makes low. You are right though, people will buy anything,I had a booth at a Flea Market and sold used carpet, once had a whole lot but it had paint on it in spots, couple looked at it and was thrilled to get enough for 2 or 3 rooms for $10.00,I couldn't believe it,but to them it was a blessing, they lived in a drafty ole farm house with wood floors, and that helped insulate it.

God does not look upon the 'proud' but is with the 'humble'. Paul said that he would not boast except in his infirmaties. He points out that we are not to bring glory to ourselves but rather to God. Pride takes the glory away from God and puts it on the man/woman. It is very evil.

You must be careful with that one. I have not seem a scripture where God advises you to be proud or stuck in pride. God really, really, HATES pride of any nature in you and me. And it is UGLY. I do be happy when God strips me of all and any of it. I hate it in others, and I despise it in me. YAK!>>> And one more idea: I believe that it starts with one's thoughts. to Take Pride in something, meaning to care for it and put effort to making it nice like your appearance (grooming, hygene, dressing nice for someone of some thing) I think is ok. You're showing GOd you're grateful. To think that your poo dont stink, or that certain people cannot share company with you, well, thats' the pride that put some in their place. When I accomplish something I like to make an asside with GOd and say "WE DID IT!!!!" ,D

Everything that we are, including our skills, are a "gift" from GOD. As long as you give GOD the glory for enabling you to accomplish what you did, I see nothing wrong with feeling proud of yourself. Just be sure to thank GOD more than you can.

Example: I'm proud that I was born in the USA where I have freedom to worship GOD and serve him openly. I can't thank GOD enough for that.

All pride is not sin, as is true with anger. ("be ye angry and sin not")

Good pride develops community, you certainly wouldn't say someone is wrong to "take pride" in their appearance, or their property, but all pride comes with the temptation to compare oneself to others and elevate self while condemning those who don't measure up.

Pride left to itself is good, it's the evil living in our flesh that perverts it.

Blessed are the meek. Meek means balanced ethics, fair and right.

God doesn't say blessed are the prideful.

You can be thankful for all of your accomplishments and give God the praise.
But go around telling others with pride about all of those accomplishments and most people will run away from you eventually.
It's not pleasant to be around someone who exalts themselves constantly. Those that are overcome with pride tell themselves that everyone is jealous of them, when in truth no one enjoys a braggart.
---Ulrika on 5/6/08

I know people that exalt their accomplishments constantly, related to one. I don't enjoy the conversations at all. I try to get off the phone as soon as possible, we see each other rarely. This person has constant problems with those in leadership roles. The bragging proves itself to be too much for everyone around. Family has zero impact trying to tell them how much it turns everyone off. Hard knocks seldom make a dent, (boss telling them to restrain mouth), they continue on with few real friends.
---Ulrika on 5/6/08

Our hope should be in what Jesus Christ did, what He does and what He will do.

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a stumble.

People attempt to twist pride into something acceptable like pride for your child, pride in your work or pride in your accomplishemnts. But pride is pride and it is sinful no matter how it is used. Pride denies the work of God in your life. An attitude of pride is an attitude of accomplishemnt by oneself.

The bible tells us, "God opposes the proud but gives Grace to the humble." I believe all pride is bad. It is God who is giving you the power to make wealth, so being pride about something means you are taking the credit for it. Jesus said, "Apart from me, you can do nothing." Nothing in the Greek means "nothing." Amen?
