Could someone please help me? I have been a Christian all my life and never have a felt a peace that others talk about. The last few years just seem to be worse than.

Moderator - Do you read your Bible daily and pray? Do you fast at times? Do you go to church at least once a week? Did you ask Christ into your heart as you couldn't have done that when you were born ie your statement all my life?

Mima:-Does a child build up TRUST in its parent/s? what if the parent says No is the trust decreased? If God says 'no' is 'your trust decreased'?I leave you with this thought.
Karen:-I do not know what is Peace in your mind to You, but if you want Peace, Learn & Practice 'self denial.' To conquer your own inhibitions, is what will give you peace. A sense of achievement. I wish you well.

Recently I was around a young person who was trying to accomplish something, I heard this young person say, Lord let me do so and so AND INSTANTANEOUSLY the person accomplished what they were trying to do. Question have you ever had something like this happening in your life? I believe we should dwell and thank about our successes that we know Lord has given us. And by doing so we build up of trust in the Lord
a trust in his word and when we trust his word piece will result.

Karen_Larson"Jesus promised you peace in this world but you must pursue it,at all costs.Knowledge and understanding is power. Read your Bible and do what it says for you to do. If you resist and try to do things your way you will not have peace but a restlessnes and be unstable in your Spirit. Come to grips with this fact: you are not perfect. You will always sin and have to ask forgivness from the Father. Enjoy life but do it from a Christian perspective. This understanding helped me tremendously in my walk. God bless you.

Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. However, our peace with others is conditional. When our peace with others is interrupted, it is up to both parties to resolve the problem. If they don't want to make peace with you, bless them, forgive them, pray for them, and move on with your life. The last time a brother got mad at me, I did my best to restore our relationship. About 8 months later, our relationship was restored and neither one of us had anything to do with it. We got on the same team playing golf and we were assigned the same golf cart. I started the conversation and we are once again good friends.

"Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey."

Having no peace is a result of having no intimacy with God. You may be a Christian, but if you have no intimacy with God (which he desires with you) then he will not let you have peace. Obedience is the key to intimacy with God. You cannot have intimacy with him if you do not obey his Word. Read Psalm 119:9. But in order to obey his Word you must know his Word. Read Psalm 1 tonight. And perhaps read it a few nights in a row for a while.

The only true peace we have is in the Lord if we have repented and he has filled us with with his spirt then we will have peace and joy.

What is weighing on your heart. Can you pin point it. Sometimes we have to look inward and pray god reveal this to you.. than you can crunch out the enemy by praying about it.
---Wal_Rev on 10/25/08

i agree ,you have to read your bible, search out scriptures that you can claim as your own, speak the word.youll find pease if you try.

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?

Peace is found in the Comprehension of "FAITH"

Everyone prays but forgets that change only come about do to faith. Bear in mind the faith of the "Mustard Seed".

Peace resides where there is no evil and departure form evil is understanding (Job 28:28) and the understanding of the Wisdom of God's Word helps us realize the serenity of faith.

Then we will grasp the faith of a Mustard Seed and know that we can do all things through faith in Christ who strengthen us.....and from the comprehension of our faith things will start to change, first peace in our hearts then in our minds then in our lives. So seek understanding and peace will be found!!!!!!!

follow jesus? the pharisees, experts in the law & the hypocrites thought they were following jesus. they imposed these insidious teachings on the people in the name of 'follow jesus'. instead of gaining peace, the people were in bondage, weighed down & exhausted bec. they were brainwashed to 'follow & obey' this endless works. the problem with christianity is they teach this broad, unspecified quotes from the bible. 'follow jesus', 'deny yourself' 'be christ-like' but the majority of christians have their own 'self-interest' & agenda.
---mike on 9/12/08

my question would be what are you sowing in your life?are you truly following jesus?
---tom2 on 8/27/08

Oh, you will have peace alright. Does not the living God live in you? Hell, you will have too.
---catherine on 8/27/08

I have been a Christian for since 1993. The peace that "others talk about" is from the comfort of knowing that God is in control, all of this is temporary, and from you accepting whatever comes your way. The peace is from you NOT worrying about everything and just living in this crazy world. I hope this helps.
---Shawn on 8/26/08

Jesus guaranteed peace for us. He Himself said, "in this world you will have trouble...peace I leave you."

He made the promise for peace. Also fruit of the spirit includes peace.

In Psalm 29:11 God promised to give strength to His people and bless us with peace.

Being a christian is no Guarantee for Peace in ones life the saying"As you have lived so shall you reap" is a clear indicator of what is required of Us.Jesus says,1.if you love me keep my Commandments2 Jn6"I live in Him who lives in ME"3.Jn14:26-27,Peace is satisfaction within one self.Worldly things do not bring satisfaction. The love of God does.Seek and you WILL find.

I believe that many Christians try too hard to create that peace instead of just letting it happen. Christ says "My peace I leave with you..." Don't try so hard to find that peace. You don't have to find it. It's already been given to you. Just thank Him for it and stand on it. We're human, we're going to have ruff times.

Mike I understand your frustration. Not to speak for Gayla, but please read what she actually said "Peace is a by product of obedience." The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and Joy as we abide in the inspiration He provides from within. You are quite correct, conviction must come from within or there can be no true repentance and without true repentance there can be no lasting reformation. Listening attentively and intelligently to His Spirit within is the obedience I believe Gayla is referring to. The condemnation and guilt that man yokes upon man thru accusations stemming from the spirit of antichrist, is what I believe you are rebuking, and rightly so.

I saw a video in the internet about an obident christian with brain cancer. she believed & obeyed by giving her tithe to kenneth copeland that she will be cured. she died eventually & blamed herself that she did not give enough tithe to kenneth copeland. blind obedience to the end

malachi 2:7-8 the lips of the priest (pastor) ought to preserve knowledge ... bec. HE IS THE MESSENGER OF GOD, but by your teaching YOU HAVE CAUSED MANY TO STUMBLE.
Is 56:11 they are shepherds (pastors) who lack understanding they all turn to their own way each seek his own gain.
they use guilt, fear, shame, blame in the name of obedience. many of these pastors are experts in the law or experts in quoting the bible but they do not give the right teachings that is why many are stumbled & in bondage of fear, shame doubt.

obedience is the result of peace? the pharisees demanded obedience from the people. 1 good ex. is they accused (concluded that it is a sin) christ of law breaking when he healed on the sabbath.
the people needed the healing already had the faith, but the pharisees are stumbling blocks to faith & healing by pointing to sin.
finally, another reason is bec of hypocrisy. there are christians who have the attitude of the pharisees,-arrogant, self righteous- always pointing to sin but they themselves do not practice what they accuse others of. that is why there are believers whose faith is destroyed.
---mike on 8/22/08

The peace of God comes thru obedience to his word, his will and his way. Worry, is the absence of faith, without faith, it is impossible to please him. Seek him, with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and when you do this, putting him first in everything that you do, the peace of God will rule and reign in your heart and mind. We have to be trained in righteousness. We have to train ourself to lay down everything that hinders, or causes worry, or doubt. Peace is a by product of obedience.
---gayla on 8/17/08

First, let me say that some folks here have a very critical spirit. I am praying for you:) Secondly, what does the Bible say that peace is? Look in the book of Romans: To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be (Romans 8:6,7). So what is peace? I cannot find anywhere in the bible where it says that peace is a warm fuzzy feeling. Can anyone else find that?

My friend, search the scriptures and see what peace is- you will find that it is not what people are normally describing. The spiritual mind is life AND PEACE.

In Christ Jesus,
---Angie on 8/15/08

how can you have peace, praise & give thanks to god when you are blamed & accused of sin. and what is worst is your suffering circumstances is the evidence of that sin.
when christ said 'all you heavy burdened' were those 'heavy burdened' paising god? NO! they were suffering & hurting. your circumstances will not change until the person himself or herself will change it.
what the person should do is understand his position. they should stand up for themselves from these self-righteous hypocrites & not obey blindly to remove the 'immature & childish' teachings of religion. you can praise all you want but if you do not understand your situation praising is useless you're still in bondage

Here is a suggestion. What ever your condition is now it is. Recognition of this fact is a release you now free to praise the Lord for the condition as it exists. Oh Lord praise your holy name and praise the fact that I do not have peace. When you think and how miserable you are, say this little prayer, and I believe your load weill lightened quickly!!
---Mima on 8/3/08

There is not but one way to finding and keeping peace and that is to get close to God and staying there. Even studying the word of God will not cut it. Going to church will not cut it. Not knocking studying you understand, or going to church, but only if God is in these things. If He isn't, no peace anyways. You must get close to God and you must get to know Him. I tell you the truth, There are some things about God that will absolutely amaze you. You will never really know Him, unless you get close to Him. Some things about God that noone would ever believe, unbelievers as well as believers. Be different find out ALL about GOD.

Depressed about all of the lying, cheating, hatred/resentment, backstabbing betrayal, war, bickering, and disregard for truth in the world? It causes much pain and suffering. It also causes lack of unity and peaceful coexistence/happiness.

If all of the iniquity in daily life/world makes you sad, then remember what a very wise man said...

Ecclesiastes 2:17
"So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me".

John 12:25
"He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life".

We are transformed in our MIND (Romans 12:2)

James 4:9
"your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to dejection".
---more_excellent_way on 8/1/08

I think it's also that a devotion/relationship that is simply based on text, gestures/protocol, and the ability to believe something is unsatisfying/unfulfilling to a pure heart.

Maybe you would be happier with a "more excellent" devotion (1 Corinthians 12:31) that is based on love ("the GREATEST of these" (1 Corinthians 13:13).

No doubt you already know the introductory doctrine of Jesus (Hebrews 6:1), it is the "WORD OF TRUTH" (2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 1:13, John 14:6), but we are told that we must "enter by the door" (John 10:1) and Jesus says "My sheep HEAR my voice" (John 10:27).

All verses are from the RSV. Most modern versions have been corrupted.
---more_excellent_way on 8/1/08

If we want to draw closer to God because we LOVE Him, then we must ask for eyes to see and ears to hear, then we will learn the "depths of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10) and the "sword" of His spirit (Ephesians 6:17).

Right is right and wrong is wrong, and never the twain shall meet...but, in this world, we have learned to believe that there are different levels of right and wrong (we rationalize/justify 'naughty', sneaky, etc.).

When we learn to make a CLEAR division between right and wrong so that there is no middle ground between the two, and the change from good to evil is clear and abrupt ("no variation or shadow", James 1:17), then we can understand the "sword" of God's holy spirit.

Mike, I believe the moderator is correct in asking about her salvation. Which would then include praying, fasting, going to church. Karen did mention she was a Christian all her life, and that is almost impossible since a person comes to Christ after the Holy Spirit brings light to the Gospel of Christ.

I do see your points in that many times Christians are oppressed with guilt by others many times forcing them to submit to things that are hard on them at the time instead of allowing the Spirit to work through the person, but the peace of God is something you cannot see. A person might have many problems but they also have the peace of Christ spiritually. I believe that is what Karen was speaking of.

to the moderator -
this is exactly what you are saying
luke 18:9-12 -
9 He then addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness & despised everyone else. (OR LOOKED DOWN ON EVERYBODY ELSE)
10 "Two people went up to the temple area to pray, one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity--greedy, dishonest, adulterous--or even like this tax collector.
---mike on 7/31/08

part 1 -
the reason why you do not have peace is bec. of this endless 'works' that other christians impose on you & if you do not obey, god will punish you or you have committed sin.
if you read the bible, the pharisees, experts in the law are 'quick to accuse' looking for something to label as SIN. that is how they manipulated the people. that is why there are those who are 'weigh down' by immature & childish teachings.
another reason is the 'gospel' that you have heard is full of guilt, shame, blame, fear. basically, you have been 'given a snake when you are asking for a fish.'
that is why you are cannot find peace!
---mike on 7/30/08

part2-if you grow up in an abusive dysfunctional family, relationship is based on fear, guilt, shame, & blame. that exists in the church. the first thing that comes out of a christian's/pastor's mouth is sin. the ordinary people in the bible were treated the same way by the pharisees, experts in the law. the disciples even ask that sin was the reason for a persons suffering (john 9:1-41).
to the moderator, you do not need any more of those negative statements like 'do you read the bible/pray' or accepted christ bec you are judging the person who is in need. I was there in that position. a pastor/christian gave me a snake/stone when I was asking for fish/bread, shut the door on my face when I was knocking.
---mike on 7/30/08

Part 1 Karen, As has already been said, you need to sit down and think about what you mean by "been a christian all my life." If you have never PERSONALLY received the gift of life through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ you will NEVER know true peace. This is not the peace the world looks for, i.e. an absence of troubles, but, true confort through all your trials.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy and peace. Rest in Him by opening your mind to His Spirit. Think on things that are pure, just, lovely and comforting. "The work of righteousness shall be peace and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance for ever". Be anxious for nothing, In every thing through prayer make your request known to Father, and the peace of God shall keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing and in all things give thanks.

Karen_Lawson: First. Have you been truly saved and committed your life to the Lord? Are you obeying God's Word? Are you a Christian or/ are you just saying you are because you have gone to church all of your life? This does not make you a Christian, beloved?Church saves no one. You need to ask Jesus(from your own mouth) to come into your heart and save you.You do this sincerely and begin to live for Christ(the Holy Spirit) will help you, but you have to be sincere and do your part, as well.

Find out what the bible says about Peace. 1)Thou will keep in Perfect Peace whose mind is stayed on thee (the word of God). 2)For He Himself (Jesus) is your peace. 3)The peace of God which surpasses all human understanding shall guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. When you focus on the word of God, memorize it, speak it out every day of your life, believe it, it will bring Peace to you, but it may take time.

Also, Peace is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is developed in one's life through studying the word Peace in the Bible. Get a notebook and write down all of the scriptures on Peace. Start to speak them over your life. Believe them. Water yourself with the Word of God and the seed of the word will grow in you and you will Experience, "the Peace that surpasses all understanding."

Another thing that came to me last night. I really do want to help: If you are right with God you have peace. Could it be that you are confusing all of lifes woes with the peace that you are seeking? If this should be the case, don't. Jesus never promised you a rose garden in this life. Peace with God is living a life which is pleasing to Him, and this is all that is important in this life, in this world. Righteousness, you have peace with God. Good day++

Sleep with your Bible.
If you can't sleep, tormented with dreams that might even be demonically influenced, sleep with your Bible.
The Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus is a very present help in time of need. When you need a friend and there's no one, call upon the name of Jesus in the middle of the night.
If you have a nightlite, you can read your Bible. If you're fearful or suffer with anxiety, hanging onto your Bible is far better than a teddy bear.

I know someone that is terminal.
Sleeping with the Bible gives them peace, they do not feel peace without it.
This person has read the Bible their entire lifetime but is now weary and tired.
Holding onto the Bible lets them rest.
We know the act of sleeping with the Bible is not written about in the Bible, but it works.
There was a time when I did the same thing without anyone ever mentioning it to me. I think many people sleep with their Bibles. Try it, I hope it brings you peace.

---catherine on 5/26/08

Peace is a relative term like love is. To each his own. Follow the moderator, DILIGENTLY seek God and be thankfull for what you do have instead of what you don't. I have the same problem but you need to have faith in God's will in your life. He made you this way for a purpose, maybe so you would strive harder than others and to do works others won't to praise him. It could be a blessing!
---Danosaur on 5/26/08

Karen,I understand what your going through. When you get saved people say right away certain things are in place ,It takes some time before you get to grips with what salvation is all about, some have been in church for several years and are just understanding that Christianity is a process a journey, one you need to take certain things on board like what the Mod suggested. Then you'll find the peace you have been looking for.

2. Peace only comes when you can believe that absolutely and thank Him for doing it. At that point He becomes YOUR Saviour. People talk about Jesus dying for 'the sins of the world' but everyone is an individual and it was for INDIVIDUALS that He died. Each individual has to accept the sacrifice (gift) that He offered for it to be of any use. Believe, accept the gift and thank Him for it and the peace should come and you will be aware that you, then, are truly a Christian.
