Didn't Know I Was A Christian
Is it possible for a person to be a Christian and not know it? A recent incident while witnessing has caused me to reconsider this question, and I'm leaning towards believing it is possible. What is your idea about this?

Have you forgotten that faith without works is dead?

I dont take credit for a change of mind, it was totally God. I trusted in HIS Gospel and HE gave me a total change of mind. I was lost, now Im found. I was in a very legalistic religion but HE took that away in an instant. To this day I have no rememberance of that falsehood. I can only proclaim the Cross of Christ. That is the desire HE gave me and I cant help but proclaim it.
Any good works we do is because of faith in HIM. We love HIM. Any works not of faith is as filthy rags to God. We cannot work for salvation, salvation is BY GRACE through faith. Its a gift of God.

It is ~Not~ possible to be a Christian and not KNOW it.
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that Believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may ~KNOW~ that you have Eternal Life, and that you may Believe on the name of the Son of God.
~YOU WILL KNOW~
John 17:3 and this is Life Eternal that they might ~KNOW~ Thee, the only True God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 10:27 (MY) sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow ME.
~YOU WILL KNOW (IF) you are Born- Again!

Kathr :I thought 666 was ascribed to a man but you do so, to a woman.Hmmm- interesting. You are a woman too? You confuse yourself in your anger Tut Tut.you say the very thing you deny Frances.Grace is earned.Calm down or you will burst a blood vessel. We will talk when calmer.

On the contrary, Kathr, I try and read every word you write. I am not sure why you don't like your name coming first on a post, so I moved it down to the fourth word position, and hope that is more pleasing to you.
Mic, blessings to you. I see now, with the help of a very good Christian on youtube that the devil is trying to separate the brethren. God is also separating out the wheat from the chaff.
The devil is trying to divide the sheep into fighting groups. We have to keep a united front and try and bring in more people to an understanding based on spirituality. The Holy Spirit is the only answer to our problems of disunity.
---frances008 on 11/14/08|
duane, it takes more than just turning to Christ. Some people, sadly, think that you do not need to change. Jesus listened to some people who came to him looking for eternal life, but when Jesus said about the conditions, they went sadly away. Those people believed in Jesus as the Son of God, but they wanted eternal life without the cross. Whenever a person of any faith sees their need for forgiveness, the Holy Spirit is starting a good work in them. Whenever a person does a compassionate deed, that is a sign that the Holy Spirit is in that person, no matter what faith they allege to be, God is in that person.

Frances, you have read nothing I have written, and you are the one who needs to repent of your slander of all those you accuse who are saved by GRACE through faith.
Grace + nothing frances. The CROSS takes care of it all.
What you teach is that GOD isn't enough, tht the whole of the Gospel isn't enough...
You confuse salvation with sanctification.
We are Justified
Glorified through Jesus Christ HE IS PERFECT...a perfect 7 mind you.
We are Complete in HIM... 3 perfect 7's
Anyone who thinks you can justify yourself, sanctify yourself or glorify yourself is nothing more than a 666!!!!

You will know salvation when you repent(turn to Christ) in faith for HE is the only means to put sin away. Do NOT put your faith in your repenting of sin to be saved. There is no salvation in dreams of the flesh doing away with sin. Its all in the CROSS of Christ. You have not repented until your put your trust in Christ for forgiveness of sin and salvation. Your faith shall save you.

Frances008~ It truly is sad how many people out there who believe we can be saved merely by "accepting Jesus into their heart." Then once they say those 'magical' words, they probably never open their Bibles and strive to live according to it, and they do nothing to try and grow in the Lord. It is even more sad that a lot of preachers are actually preaching salvation is this simple as well! It boggles my mind.

These are the groups that the world can be divided into:
1. The elect who are called to be the Holy Spirit filled Church of Christ.
2. The nonChristian righteous people - those who do not need a physician because they are not sick.
3. The established church who are just churchgoers and their leaders. Some may belong to group 1 others to group 5. This is a large battle ground.
4. The 'world' or 'nations' who are not righteous or elect or established church. They are the ordinary sinners in the street. The lost sheep. Another battle ground.
5. The people who wilfully sin, conspire against group 2, infiltrate group 3, and worship Satan.

Kathr, you are such a false accuser. I am not denying Christ and his gospel, you deny his gospel which was one of salvation after repentance. You believe in a magical method by which saying you believe in Christ and that alone means you are saved. The devils believe and tremble because they are not saved. I pray that God leads you to repent of slandering me.

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?
It's possible that some people's actions are "Christ like" in nature. But by definition THEY ARE NOT of the body of Christ, until they have gained a heart to do only the Will of the Father because such a heart is need to repent unto salvation.
If they're repenting, they should know to whom and to what power they're repenting to, to be saved.
Being of the Body of Christ implies intentionally following the Lord to receive His cleanseing blood through repentance in faith of the promises of God.
Now, whether or not they call themselves Christian is another matter becuse it's only one of many referrances, to denote being of the Body of Christ, another is "Child of God"!!

Faith in GOD changes us. From a person who loves sin to a person who hates sin. It is called the New Birth.
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1Jo 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

What and who is a christian? The answer is simple by Gods Interpretation."A follower of Christ" but it does start here only if we continue and want to be His Follower we MUST FOLLOW- here in the 2nd part is the Dilemma.WHOSE WAY?Jesus said follow me - His way was Perfect. Do we follow His way !!!or make our way, His way ?If you do, can you still call yourself a Christian. To be a christian,in the true sense of the word is to be "Christlike" in word deed and thought. This is the perfection He asks of us.HE DID IT AS A MAN so can you.

***Kathr, beware of placing all your confidence in emotions***
Frances, by all your answers It is evident you have never been born again.
The very LIFE of Christ and the Spirit of the LIFE OF CHRIST in us bears witness that we ARE the Children of God. No doubt about it....
And yes...emotions do not save you....Jesus Christ does!!!
Mima is correct...the Holy Spirit IN US bears witness to the World the Testimony of Jesus Christ...and the very Christ IN YOU..the Hope of Glory.
Frances I do pray for your soul....and also pray God will not hold you accountable for those awful things you say denying Christ and His Gospel of salvation.

I always proclaim faith, not dead faith without works. Faith is faith...dead faith is dead faith. Faith saves us(real faith)
---duane on 11/11/08|
Anything not of faith is sin.
Obedience is no proof of salvation. Faith is a sure thing.
>>But faith without works is dead, being alone. James said that, and it is correct. Faith produces works, obedience. That's why Messiah said, "He that has my commandments and KEEPS THEM, it is he that loves me." He also said, "If you love me, KEEP my commandments." This is also why James wrote, "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments."
Grace through faith saves, but faith produces (instills) a desire to walk in God's will. His will is that we don't sin, by keeping His commands we won't sin. The commands define what is sin and what isn't.

Frances~ I like your passion, but your judgment toward others is not healthy, and it is not only hurtful to others but to yourself. A slave will obey but can hate his master.

A more accurate description of the state of affairs is that Kathr thinks she is saved and says she is saved. That does not make it so. Just saying something into truth is attempting witchcraft. The truth is the truth and a lie is a lie whatever you have to say. To make sure it becomes true be obedient to God. God is in control of what will happen not Kathr.
---frances008 on 11/8/08|
Kathr, beware of placing all your confidence in emotions and the 'highs' that some congregations seem to run on. Take care that the language of the chants you sing are from the Word and not from assumptions or traditions. Take care of loaded language being used to mind control you. The facts are laid out in the gospels and (less so) in the letters of all the apsotles, Paul, Peter, John, Apollos (Hebrews writer). Remember to listen to just a part of a message is to remain ignorant of the rest of it. Don't fall for that old trap of Satan, which he used on Jesus in the desert. Or how about down right lies, such as used by the devil in the garden of Eden. The devil will be wherever Chrsitians congregate - trying to deceive them.
---frances008 on 11/7/08|
BARBARA, I agree!!!
I think we will be very surprised at how many people THINK they are saved and not.....even knowing the truth. Head knowledge Christians. Let me say...when the HEART gets involved...( now your heart is made up of the ..mind,.. will, emotions, intellect, etc, wow, something beyond words happens....YOU JUST can't keep your mouth shut, and want to tell everyone...I"M SAVED!!!JESUS SAVES!!!!...I believe that's the Holy Spirit witnessing to the event...along with Angels screaming and shouting!!!! It's having the testimony and witness of Jesus.
---kathr4453 on 11/5/08|
There are some awesomely correct answers here! Don't let Satan fool you! He wants you to doubt.Hold fast to what you know in your heart that is between you and God.Some will doubt their salvation when they don't "feel" something all the time. Or when they draw away for the Lord.If you are a new believer I strongly suggets to get into a good bible based church for some fellowship, and study your Bible hungrily.God will open your eyes and heart to understand His Word as you sincerely learn about and follow Him. Many think they are giving up something to follow Jesus, on the contrary my friend, you haven't lived till you live for Him!!

david ask," I would like to know more about what happened that made you question if someone could be a Christian and not know it."
While on the street witnessing I meet some very good people, churchgoers, numerous Christian acts in their background, all of which I often know to be true for in some cases I know these people personally.
Yet the defining question(are you absolute positively certain sure no doubt in your mind that you will go to heaven when you died?) Has a way of uncovering these people. After facing up too their sinfulness, and honestly praying they are greatly relieved. And it is for this reason that I asked this question.

A person who has a peaceful and just Godlike demeanor/nature certainly has a spirit/nature that is "Holy".
They need acknowledge that the Messiah/savior sent by the creator is Jesus (because they already have a Godly nature).
...but, if they also know how to read, they also have a responsibility to learn more about the creator by reading the true scriptures of God (bible, introductory doctrine, Hebrews 6:1) to learn more about Him.
Jesus is the outer temple and we are the inner temple (John 2:21, 1 Corin. 3:16 and 6:19). They should acknowledge their anointing and be quickened (1 John 2:27) and live under the "law of liberty" (James 1:25, 2:12, Ephes. 2:15) to enter "by the door" (John 10:1).

---nettie on 10/19/08|
No, the scripture says that " if thou confess with thy mouth and believe in thy heart that Jesus was raised from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10.
So in order for this to happen you would have known you said it.

Greetings in Jesus! First I would like to commend you for sharing your faith. I would like to know more about what happened that made you question if someone could be a Christian and not know it. Sometimes people will say things that sound correct, yet mean something completely different to them. Jesus said,"I am the way the truth and the life and no man can come to the Father but by me" jn14:6 I don't think it would be possible to come to the Father though the sacrifical gift of Jesus Christ and not be aware of it.
---david8437 on 7/14/08|
It is entirely possible for a person to act as Christ would have his followers act, without ever knowing the Gospel. (The ideas of compassion, mercy, and non-violence are not exclusive to Christianity, after all.)
I would consider such a person a christian (with a deliberatly small c): a person behaving in a Christ-like manner.
But such a person would not be a Christian (capital C): One who follows/worships Jesus Christ. One has to be aware to be this type of Christian (unless suffering from memory loss, of course.)
---Nancy on 6/30/08|
No it is not possible for a person to be a Christian and not know it. From the moment of converting over to Christ, that person is a changed person. Their whole demeaner has changed, outside and inside. The reason why you question your Salvation is because Satan has put thoughts inside your head making you think that you are not one of God's children. Do not listen to Satan. If you sincerly accepted God into your heart and asked for forgiveness, you are forgiven and have been born again. Once you convert over to Christ, you should never question your Salvaion. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am born again. Because I accepted Christ into my life and have faith that he forgave me and granted me Salvation.

It's not possible, Mima Lee. Not possible.
Without a real change from darkness into Light, old man putting on the new man - it's still the same old man talking the jargon and putting on a show for the Christian.
It happens everyday. Women are duped by pseudo Christian men.
Voters are duped by pseudo Christian candidates.
Unbelievers and believers are duped by demons disguised as angels of light.
Any person on the street that wants to get the street minister off of their back can say or do anything to make that person go away. They can say, God Bless You, Jesus Loves you, talk all of the talk and not have a walk. It happens everyday.

Mima: That was a very accurate response to Donna. Judas had his own agenda, apart from Jesus'. So it is with the pseudo-saved. On the surface they look & may even sound good. But sooner or later their sin, without fail, exposes them for who they really are.
By the way, I definitely believe OSAS because that's what the Bible teaches.
---Leon on 6/27/08|
Sure Judas... But it was to Peter the Lord said "get thee behind...".
---Nana on 6/27/08|
Christians do as they do because of their relationship to God. It's intentional, not accidental.
Maybe we don't have the same definition of Christian, but how does anyone "worship in Spirit and truth" unknowingly? The Spirit is specific and the truth has a clear benchmark in Jesus Christ, (it would feel awkward to those who don't believe) he is a sword of division, and he is between even the old and new self.
As a child I was trained with Christian customs, and at the time I didn't know, but when I became a Christian I knew the difference and started choosing those things gratefully.
Being a Christian involes a definable wholesale change as an act of one's own volition at the realization that Jesus is Lord.
---Pharisee on 6/26/08|
Donna you asked a much asked question. In order to get an answer. Let's look at what is in the Scriptures. John 6:70,"Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? "Noticed the wording, not one of you is going to be a devil, but one of you IS a devil. So Judas was a devil when he was chosen. What does this say about predestination(I cannot be certain) but certainly Jesus knew the situation in its entirety, and he called Judas a devil from the beginning. Answer, Judas was not saved at any time.
---MiMA on 6/26/08|
Well, I don't believe in predestination, eternal security or OSAS.
I don't believe it is possible to not know that you are a Christian.
I believe anyone can impersonate being a Christian to capture votes, lead you astray through evangelism dating or to turn your head...leading you down the path to a bad marriage, a horrible place to work or just about anything.
It's not possible to be a Christian and not know it.
The old man is put away and the new man puts on Jesus Christ. There is a moving out death into life, and we overcome the devil by the word of our testimony.
I think Christians are duped everyday, believing that they're dating a Christian or marrying one and they are not.
---Donna on 6/26/08|
no. The idividual has to accept Jesus & the fact he was sent to fullfill his fathers message in order to be a christian, to follow Christ. Now it is possible you can have the charactoristics of one, but until you acknowledge it, you aren't one fully.
---canda7893 on 6/26/08|
What do you mean by "being a Christian," because a true Christian will KNOW that he or she is been born again, saved, and justified! This Christian also will KNOW that he or she is being transformed into the image of Christ.
---Nadine on 6/26/08|
Mi ma, was Judas a Christian? Please think about this before you respond. I'm asking because I'm curious, not because I know the answer.
Jhn 13:2 says: And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son], to betray him,
So was Judas a Christian up until the devil put into his heart to betray Jesus? I do not know the answer to this, I'm just curious.
---donna8365 on 6/26/08|
Mimi, I would think that a person could get Saved and then not be taught the tenants of the faith. This type of person may very well go into other things that could be very wrong. (This opens the debate "Can a Catholic be Saved?" The answer is YES!)
WE see the parable about the Sower and the seed. Some never took root and was snatched away.
Christians seem to think we are to lead others to the Lord and the job is done. But, we are also to teach them according to Matt 28:19-20.
I would never tell anyone that they are Saved if they think they are not. We do many things out of ignorance of God's Word. Many of us are weak and unable to understand because we have never taken the time to learn what God has spoken.
