Never Have Backslidden

A preacher said that he has never backslidden since he got saved as a 5-year old boy. Do you think that is possible?

Moderator - Not backslidden possible; not sinned no.

It's important to get answers from the bible and there we have plenty of examples. John, Jesus' disciple was a man who was already "there." In other words, he wasn't one who messed up all the time, etc. Compare him with Peter, David, Jonah, Solomon, and others who did "backslide" (meaning to revert into sin they know if wrong), and we see that while it is possible to really walk a decent path and trip, there are lots of others who walk the path, fall down face first in the mud, but in either circumstance it is God who picks them up. No one is better than another - Jesus is our only hope.

the only man ever without sin was jesus.two steps forward ,one step back, a perfect description of my life so far.

\\ 1.If he says he's never backslidden... why are some making a fuss about this? as if it is not possible/a crime to boast in the Lord?\\

It sounds an awfully lot like he's boasting in himself. "God, I thank Thee, etc...."
---Cluny on 7/7/09

If he gets married he wants a woman has kept herself pure. He wants one who has been in church all her life, not someone who got saved out of the world.

He is only telling about the possibility/ beauty of being in Christ and not willfully making choices that make you go back to mess up in the World...definately only by the power of God.

i see a good testimony to our youth- which says it's ok to be considered odd for now and make the right choices beause

it is beautiful to look back and thank God for all the mess you avoided by grace

willfully wallowing in and living in sin, drugs, imorality etc. is backsliding
---Patience on 7/6/09

some preachers go on and on about how they messed up before God fixed them and with pride and much vim... no wonder the youth think that is the most normal thing

when i was younger, i used to wonder whether this was the only way God worked

i was relieved when at one youth conference a pastor narrated how God had preserved him over the years... that did a lot of good to me... i felt i was not so weird after all

not all great preachers had to mess up before God called them into the ministry

2. let's encourage our young ones to know christ and escape most of the scars the world believes is normal...

rather, the normal thing is to by the grace of God, have an unchecked life that you'll look back to without remorse

KarenD....Does this man expect to find a woman his age who has been saved since she was a little girl and who is still pure?
---SusieB on 7/6/09

cluny...Which woman would that be? Give us a clue what you are talking about? He wants a living woman anyway.
---SusieB on 7/6/09

Maybe he should find a lady who was only saved last week.

She will not have had a chance to backslide yet!

Does pride, lack of humbleness and conceit count as backsliding?
---NurseRobert on 7/3/09

I think the only woman who would meet his qualifications is already spoken for and is in heaven.

He sounds like he has an awfully big problem with pride.

If he say he has no sin, he deceives himself, and the Truth (Jesus) is not in him!

Joh 5:20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

A man stand in a crowded room, and yells out, Im saved praised the lord! The guy next to the door in the back walks out. Very good work!

1Co 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

Rom 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

How beautiful them that preach the gospel!

This man is a preacher, but not a pastor. He has never been married and is in his late 40's. Now he is wanting to find a wife and expects her to be as "holy" as he is. He will not consider a woman who has ever backslid.

Very well said Nana and Steveng as well!
---Anne on 7/3/09

Moderator said it well
---Anne on 7/2/09

Well said Steveng!
Yet some who consider themselves 'saved' speak of sin as if it was a right and a fringe benefit that comes with 'salvation', "as some here do"!
John is very true and very bold,
1 John 3:9-10: "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."
1 John 3:6: "Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him."
What's their problem? That they don't know SIN has a Daddy, and it is not God?

Every time you sin, you backslide. But God is full of mercy to forgive you of your trespasses every time you repent of them.

Luke 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, --

(This would be like loving God above all, trying to keep the commandments and the law, works and any other great thing you think of!)

(Now!) -- say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

(When you say you are doing this for or because, of the lord! You are a liar? This is your work, your job, your obligation, not to God but to all of us! But, know you cant do it! If you could, there would be no need for my lord. So many people stand there and said, Im saved, and still dont understand this!)

Pharisee, what a great answer you gave.
"Whether it's true or not consider the claim, what does a 5 year old possibly slide back into other than childishness?"
Does he slide to childishness? If he came to Christ at 5 he could not slide anywhere but forward.
And as the Moderator said, he cannot possibly be saying he is without sin. For that too is false. I think that pastor needs to think before he compares himself to others as some here do.
---MarkV. on 7/2/09

Whether it's true or not consider the claim, what does a 5 year old possibly slide back into other than childishness?

Even if it were true what's the point? To make everybody who's caught in a sin feel inferior to you or to elevate yourself? Isn't our religion supposed to be about the power of God to save us from sin, and not our own strength?

I guess you don't have to backslide to just plain old slide and totally miss it huh?
