"my goal as a christian is to reconnect in a covenant relationship with God"
You already have Kendra. May Father continue to bless you in your walk with Him. He loves you, and He knows that you love Him. His strength is revealed in you as you are given to recognize your weakness and to trust Him to compensate.
---josef on 2/9/10

Josef, I am glad you were blessed. Jesus has done great things in my life, and he is worthy of all of our worship and all of our acceptance. I was born a seeker, and had to always know "why?" and "where?" and "who?" and "what?". So growing up in a dysfunctional family prompted me to go out and "look outside" for answers and help. I tried many faulty and inadeqate paths. Instinctively I knew that God was in charge of everything and that he also was Good. So I sought him out by going to the church and ernestly looking for him. And praise God I found him, full of grace and truth."And you all will seek me and find, when you all will search for me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13.

My heart was opened with our message at church in 2 Corinthians, and how we can come back from life's hurts, struggles and failures. I am a wounded healer with my realtionship with God and my goal as a christian is to reconnect in a covenant relationship with God in doing so I was moved by this passage Romans 12:9-18.

Eloy I loved the way you put those relevant scriptures together, they most definitely spoke to my to both my heart and soul. Absolutely beautiful. Amen.

"They carry with them the Spirit of God. For the glory of God."

From your mouth, to the Father's ears. Thank you for the blessing MarkV, it is truly appreciated. My prayer is that Kendra can and will receive the statement as well as you have.

"I cried to Yhwh with my voice, and he heard me. He said to me: Your sins are forgiven. And the reclined company began to say in themselves, Who stands this, who even forgives sins? Note, God my Yeshuah, I will trust and not fear: for Yh Yhwh, my strength and song, he also is become my salvation. For great your mercy toward me: and you have delivered my soul from the lowest hell. He drew me with gentle cords of a man, with bands of love: and he was to me as one who takes off the yoke on my neck, and he stooped and fed me. And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Psalm 3:4 Luke 7:48,49+ + Isaiah 12:2+ Psalm 86:13+ Hosea 11:4+ Gal.2:20.

Thank you Joseph for your words. She is my mother and she will always have my respect and love. I will just have to turn the other cheek when face with judgemental states. I pray for strength every day to be more Christ like.
---Kendra on 2/6/10

Joseph, that was just great what you said. I really enjoy your comments very much. They carry with them the Spirit of God. For the glory of God. thanks for the words. Peace

" How can I bridge this gap so that we will have common respect between each other's relationship with God?"
Kendra, By allowing her the convictions of her belief, while living out the convictions of your own. Though it all remember, we can only see an unclear reflection of what is to be, but "when that which is perfect has come" it all will become clear. Until then, there "now abides faith, hope, [and] love, these three, but the greatest of these [is] love." Allow the Father to express His love through you. Submit yourself to His joy, peace, patience, and kindness, avoid argument or judgement. Give respect and you will receive respect, and respect requires deference.
---josef on 2/5/10

You ain't likely to bridge any gap...

Lu 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay, but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

How do you know she is not right? How do you know you are right?

I'd suggest you ask God for the truth. You ain't too likely to find your answers around here: and that "good" book is the best place I know of to start.
---BruceB on 2/5/10

My husband is Catholic and I was raised Pentacostal(UPC) but left the church in 1999 and joined a Presbyterian church. My mom has been saying that there are a lot of "Catholics" leaving the church and becoming "Christian". It bothers me to think that she says and thinks that. How can I reinforce to her that we might not have the same convinctions or the same spirital relationship with God as her, but we are still "Christians"? Her response to me is always "God didn't recreate Religion man did". My response is, "then how do we know which one is right"? How can I bridge this gap so that we will have common respect between each other's relationship with God?
---Kendra on 2/5/10

Thank you Bruce.
Brother, your few answers spoke volumes to me and I completely agree.Bless you!
And that goes back to why I am a Christian.
I had made a complete mess of my life.
I figure God can certainly do better with it than I can. All I have to do is trust and follow him. Since I have done that, he has kept his word to me. He has let nothing harm me and has put nothing on me that I can't bear. He shores me up, helps me stand, protects me, wraps his arms around me and keeps my spirit safe and peaceful. He loves me!!! Even when my life is in total turmoil.
Bruce, you are right, I made a choice and so can anyone else.

God ask believers to seek more of Him. Seek and you will find, knock and it will be open for you, is also for believers. All they have to do is ask and they will receive the promises to all who love Christ.
Many hear the word, but never receive faith, so they reject the Word of God.
John 14:6 is very true. The only way a person will be right with God is if Jesus blood cleans them of their sins. There is no other way to be right with God. But in order to receive that blood, God has to draw you to Him.
Man through the curse is heading for hell, condemned already. A slave to sin. He loves it. He cannot escape from it. What he desires does not include God. Everything he does without faith is sin.
---MarkV. on 2/5/10

"No one who seeks after God"

But the word says Christ ask us to seek after him and his knowledge and his guidance?
People choose to do good things all the time so mankind is not completely depraved. Man can choose to seek after God but they must hear the truth first. Then they must believe it.
HEARING the word of God gives faith. God draws people by his words of truth.(rom 10:17) Jesus' WORDS are truth and life.(john6:63)
What about John 14:6
We can't get to the Father Except through Christ.
We must believe the Truth of Christ words and God's spirit WILL draw us. It starts with believing Christ is speaking the truth.
The Bible says that people hear just fine but the problem is them believing Christ.
---miche3754 on 2/5/10

A lot of questions. I don't have every answer, either.

Mt 13:15 For this peoples heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour,
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Pr 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction...

Apparently, we choose to accept or reject God.

I have God's Blood flowing threw my veins, yes.
---catherine on 2/5/10

Thank you Steve-rem and Bruce for your insight. I believe the first passages that we should remember are Rom. 3:10,11,12. from those passages we can see, that there is no one who is righteous, no one who understands, no one who seeks after God. This is speaking of those who are lost. And Bruce gives the next answer to questions found in John 6:44, where Jesus says, that no one can come to Him, unless the Father draws them. Nothing could be more clear to anyone that can discern the word of God. And once they are given to Christ, He will lose none. Nothing could be more clear what the meaning is. Though there is some who would change even the meaning of God's word to fit their theology.
---MarkV. on 2/5/10

Amen Bruce!

To go further, how do you believe God draws people to him?
Scripture says that he draws through his word.(rom. 10:17)
Do you believe that is true?
Or do you believe God creates some to receive him and others not?
When do you believe the Holy Spirit comes to live in you? is it before you accept Christ as the savior or after? DO you think God gives faith to man or do you believe that faith is something all mankind has built in them and God uses his truth by his word to open their eyes?
Do you think God opens their eye and ears by giving the HS to them before repentance or do you believe the HS comes after repentance?
When do you think salvation starts?
---miche3754 on 2/5/10

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

That's the only reason anyone can be a Christian.

Because when I cried out to God He sent the Holy Spirit and I accepted Jesus as my Savior. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the reading of God's Word, I've tried to live according to His will and to be a good Christian son and a good witness to others, living by the power and the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

By the grace and love of God whom he sets his love on.

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable, there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 10:20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not, I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

I am a christian or child of God because I am following what Jesus taught his disciples. I'm obeying Gods word though not perfect. This world can't offer me the peace that God can.that's why.

Because when JESUS called me to believe in Him instead of Science and the ways of men. I said yes.

I was full of questions but could not find any answers from the world that satified.

My family did not go to church and my dad opposed attending. In the end I could not resist the love of GOD.

I am a christian because I believe that Christ died for me. I choose to be a christian to uphold my belief and and to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Because I want to be?

But WHY do I want to be is the real question I'd like to answer.

From an early age, there was instilled in me a desire to find out WHY I was on this earth. I asked everyone I met back in my teenage years, WHY do you think we're here?

Then I went out and bought a bible and was interested in what God had to say.

That led up to me getting saved when I was 24 years old. I am now 51 and I regret I waited until I was 24 to say the sinners prayer and repent of my sins and follow Jesus and have a Loving relationship with Him, God Our Father and Holy Spirit. It's been hard and painful at times, but The Joy of the Lord is my strength.

"Why are you a Christian?" I am a child of God called "Christian" as a disciple of The Christ and His Christ within me. "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." That given name stuck and continues to be used to this day, although I never refer to myself in that way. For me, it is to closely associated with the religions of denominational Christendom, and the only "religion" I associate myself with is the religion of James 1:27. My only method of worship is in reliance upon Father's Spirit to lead me into His truth and empower me from within to live out that truth.
