I Am A Defeated Christian

I am a defeated christian! I have been involved in porn, stealing (inflated invoices many times), lustfulness. I have confessed my sins before but fell back into sin. And I have read about willful sins. But my heart condemns me. But I need peace within me. Can God forgive a christian like me?

God tells us we will suffer for our beliefs. they hated Jesus and they hate us too. satan will try the believer in many ways. one is he wants the Christian to be defeated. turn your eyes toward heaven. Jesus always looked to the heavens when He prayed. matthew 10:22, matthew 24:9, John 15:24

The world needs to know what perfect possesion is. The real answeras to why this was created is related to perfect possesion
---ed_turner on 2/3/14

He certainly can....Listen: God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for people who needs Him. And you need Him. Ask Him for forgiveness, and to please help you. You need to stay in prayer, obedience, praise and worship. God is faithful, however, we have a part to do. God won't do it all....STAY IN PRAYER.

Phil, I was going to say something close to what you said. How can he be a defeated Christian? I find that hard to believe. We all struggle in life. What he reallys sounds to me is a Catholic. When I was a Catholic, thirty years ago, I confessed every Saturday, and by Sunday I was back to doing the same old thing. I also felt bad I did what I did, the reason I confessed to the priest every Saturday. There was never a real change in my heart or in my life. I was a confessing Catholic. Some times I even confessed to the saints. Ask them to guide me and help me. Such nonsense. We need to be honest. We don't need to have perfect fruits, but give evidence of our salvation.
---Mark_V. on 11/5/12

Do not be surprised if one day you are exposed publicly for your hypocrisy. It will be for your salvation.

The grace of God overwhelms, and if you have obtained it, you can live in it. Where sin abounds, grace superabounds.

If you are elect and chosen, the the issue is not salvation, but devoutness. These sins prevent that and since you prefer sin to sanctification, you are getting your deserts, as we all do.

His mercy is endless, His love full, His grace sufficient. Invoke Him for grace and mercy, realizing you are an undeserving child of His, regardless of the trouble you are experiencing.

2Cor.6:16b-18 & 7:1,For ye r the temple of the living God,as God hath said,I will dwell in them, & walk in them, & I will be their God, & they shall be my people.Wherefore come out from among them, & be ye separate, saith the Lord, & touch not the unclean thing, & I will receive u. And will be a Father unto u, & ye shall be my sons & daughters, saith the Lord ALmighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh & spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
---Reba_3347 on 5/16/10

Randy, that condemnation you feel is not coming from God. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, He does not condemn us. The devil causes us to feel condemned and doubt God would ever forgive us. Remember he comes as an angel of light.

When we backslide into sin we grieve the Holy Spirit and lose touch with God. We "quench" God and all we can hear is the condemning voice of satan telling us there is no forgiveness. Its a LIE! Jesus is still there within us because He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

Ive been where you are brother. There IS forgiveness. Christ already died for that sin. God doesnt want you to die for it as well. His desire is to forgive and strengthen you. NEVER forget that.
---JackB on 5/15/10

Randy...Apparently you have not come to the point that you truly hate the sins you fall back into. You can feel guilty and "condemned", you can "confess" your sins, you can be forgiven...but without being DETERMINED from the heart to change your will continue to be defeated.

God hasn't given up on you. That's why you feel such inner conflict. He may allow you to get "caught" by others. The consequences may be enough to make you want to change.
But, instead, when you are tempted, turn to HIM.

1Cr 10:13b... He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
---Donna66 on 5/14/10

You sound like Solomon. The answer is "Oh Yes". Go and sin no more. Listen, great misery awaits any person whom God has saved by His MIGHTY BLOOD, if they turn away. Hallelujah.
---catherine on 5/14/10

You did not fall back into sin, you presented your body to sin. You allowed it.

How badly do you hate these sins? Sounds like you still like them. You can have no peace while you sin. The HS will not allow it.

Linda gave you good reading material, Romans 5 and 6. READ IT. Pray and ask God to give you the KNOWLEDGE that you have already been delivered. Then pray and ask God to give you HATRED for these sins and BOLDNESS to say No to the temptation when it comes.

Get with a small group of men and get honest with them about your sin. You will find out that we all struggle with lust but it can be defeated.

Get started NOW.
---Mark_Eaton on 5/13/10

Jody/Verna, those were very good answers concerning those who believe. I think many have the idea that we are to be perfect, but we are to strive to be perfect. We are never there in this life. Praise God that He knows our hearts. We can never hide anything from Him. Paul sure wanted to do good all the time but knew that sin within was always there. He knew the body had not been redeemed so he struggled just like all those who are born of the Spirit.

Randy, many posts here are nothing more than platitudes. There is one ingredient that eveyone misses that truly will help you - love. Your love for God is weak as most christians today. Sure, they know about love, but rarely do they know how to actively apply it. Also, christians today complicate being a christian by filling up every minute of every day with work, school, family, friends, shopping, ipods, computers, church, bible study, entertainment instead of trying to form an intimate relationship with God.

In your heart, does God seem real to you or is he just a figment of your imagination?

Do an online KJV bible search for the keyword "love" and learn how to apply it to keep you from falling into the hands of Satan.
---Steveng on 5/12/10

Yes. God tells us in His word that He will never leave us or forsake us. He loves us unconditionally. After all He created us, didn't He? He knows and understands our very nature. He knows your heart! Most people do sin willfully. That's why we have to go to the Father and repent daily. Remember no one is without sin. What I try to do when temptation comes knocking at my door, is to ask God to give me the strength I need to overcome it. The problem is... sometimes I don't accept it, I give in and pay the consequences later. I think it was St. Paul who said in the bible... I know to do right, yet I choose to do the wrong?? Paul was forgiven. This is one example of God's amazing love. I hope this helps you,my friend. God Bless!
---Verna on 5/8/10

Randy:You limit the grace of God. Bible talks about "over-comers" in terms of perseverance. Keep trying. Read Romans 7. Rev says "they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimonies". And as Linda said "if our heart condems us God is greater than our heart". There are some really good responses on this blog for your consideration. Stongholds, deliverance, and the notion that you wouldn't be concerned at all if you were truly lost/"defeated". "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" and you will find peace. We all struggle. At least you are honest and aware. That is the first step towards change. Do not "faint". Read, pray, praise and love.
---jody on 5/8/10

randy, you really need to change the way you think about yourself, and even more you need to allow jesus to help you overcome, and find someone you trust that will help you be accountable.

Dear struggling Christian, It's a sad fact but We r all repeat sinners. I have found that if I start my day out with reading the bible(Proverbs is good) then get down on my knees before God & ask for his help and protective covering throughout each day, I fight temptation with more success. Get ur spiritual man fat & healthy & starve out the sinful nature.(by refusing to feed ur mind with what temps u), In time u'll notice that the temptations will come less & when they do u'll be strong enough to overcome them.

*Understand-The Word of God can never be defeated.
What God said-goes.We Learn it-believe it-Follow and confess it.HE PERFORMS IT.
Rom 10:9-10
*Have brothers and sisters in Christ annoint you with oil-to rebuke.
James 5:14-16(read all)
Is any sick amoung you?let him call for the elders of the church, let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord....
Matt 17:21-Mk 9:29
"Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
Keep yourselves in the love of God looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a defference: And other save with fear, pulling them out of fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
---char on 5/8/10

Randy, you are obviously disgusted with your sin. This will bring you back, as you know the truth. I believe it is the deceiver, Satan, who is trying to make you give up. Call upon the name of the Lord Jesus, resist Satan and he will flee. You will sin again, and be forgiven again. Surely we will sin until made perfect, and in heaven.

I also give into sin, as does every Christian. Anyone who says they never sin is deluding themselves.

Nonetheless we can pray for help and endeavour to turn away from sin.

"May the LORD bless you and protect you, the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace." Numbers 6:24-26

randy,we are what we think, scripture tells us so,jesus came to save us brother ,because we couldn,t save ourselves,we still cant.scripture says we have all sinned, that we all have no light within us,that we all love the darkness.I agree with others,STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP FIRST,realizing what you are is a great first step, but jesus came just for that reason brother, let him do his job saving you,and you do yours by following and obeying.

Your HEART condemns you?...You can't be that despicable a person or you wouldn't be here. Just because your head is filled with all kinds of self-persecution lies, it doesn't mean you should hate/persecute yourself (the more you hate yourself, the more you give in to temptation). The reason is simple. You have a very judicial attitude (you JUDGE people), so you are getting your just deserves by getting on your own case (you can't run from your conscience). God built poetic justice into everything.

Give the world a break and get off their case,....and then you'll lighten up on yourself also.

It all depends on how forgiving you can be...."THE MIRROR" (people don't like to see their natural face, James 1:23).

I dont believe there is such a thing as a defeated can be cold,or lukewarm,or even following satan, lost in sin in the world ,and following the lusts and desires of the flesh, but satan is defeated, death is defeated.peace can only come to you through your choice to follow christ,to deny your flesh, but yes God can and will forgive you.
---tom2 on 5/5/10

Randy: There have been many Christians who fell, for long times, and then picked themselves up again

The three things you list as sins have one thing in common which is actually GOOD for you:

All are things we all know to be wrong

I have had sins that tempted me for long times, but I was also fortunate in the same way

Were you to have said you were [metaphorically] a Pharisee (proud of your belief) I would be much more concerned

God helps us all

---James on 5/5/10

Randy, God can and will forgive anyone who repents and TURNS AWAY FROM their sins...he told the woman caught in adultery, "Go and sin no more."

But I am sensing you have strongholds in your life. If you are repeating the same sins over and over again, then you are being driven by demonic forces. You need deliverance from this. Repenting and forgiving is the first step, seeking God for delievering you is the next step you need to take. "Surely it is He who delivers you from the snare of the fowler." We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spirits and principalities, etc., Seek God and ask for Him to deliver you and He will provide the way to get you free from this stuff.

Jesus forgave Peter, who openly denied knowing him three times. He took Paul, one of the most zealous persecutors of the early Church, and turned it into one of its most prolific apostles.

And don't forget David, "a man after God's own heart" who lusted after a woman, committed adultery with her, and effectively had her husband murdered to cover it up - yet God even forgave that.

If you read through the Bible, many of the greatest heroes had at one time or other done some of the most heinous things. If God is big enough to forgive each of them, he's certainly big enough to forgive each of us.
---StrongAxe on 5/2/10

You make the devil happy by doubting if God can forgive you. God had forgiven those who are writing to of similar sins before, why not you? Immediately you are convicted in your heart of something you have gone wrong, (do not waste time)GO STRAIGHT TO THE LORD IN PRAYER, confess and ask from your heart His forgiveness. Ask for power to overcome the things that have been defeating you. Pls read Rev.2:5-7.

"But my heart condemns me. But I need peace within me. Can God forgive a christian like me?"
Randy on 5/1/10
Yes, He can.
Matthew 12:33: "Either make the tree good, and his fruit good, or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit."
James 3:10-11: "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?"

God recognizes this inner struggle and is betting on you to overcome! Victory and defeat come at the end of a struggle so, you are not defeated.

From Ritual Holiness to Human Compassion:
By my count there are 613 "commandments" in the five books of Moses. The Levitical Purity laws regulated personal and community life for the Hebrew people. Some of these purity laws encoded simple common sense or moral ideals that we still follow today. Ultimately, though, the purity laws and holiness codes have been formed by man in to a type of ritual purity requirement we still burden our selves with. Good News, the Gospels when truthfully spread brings joy and peace. Jesus finished and established a New Covenant a burden lifting gift from God. The truth will set you free and he who is free is free in deed.(Reply to continue)

As far as being a member in good standing of the 'church of man' (buildings, books, ministers, etc.), you are a complete failure (God likes complete failures). Your weakness will let Him "increase" meaningfully in your life, but first you have to GIVE UP trying to have a meaningful relationship based on books and man's wisdom. Then you can recognize the Godly common sense put in us (His seed)....

1 John 2:27
"the anointing which you received from him abides in you" (quoted from the RSV).

...and then you will be QUICKENED....

1 Corinthians 15:45
"the last Adam a quickening spirit" (from the KJV, other versions say "life giving spirit", REAL/genuine life is ETERNAL).

Randy, our battle is not against flesh and blood, it is with the wicked one.

A close friend once said, "It is fifty miles between your head an heart."

He already has risen to forgive. Become a disciple of Christ, don't worry about being a good Christian. "Seek ye all Righteousness and everything will be added.

YES! But, you must be willing to change. You cannot fool God....To tell you the truth you have to want it more than life itself, still, you need God to help you....You need His wisdom, you need His power, you need His strength, You need His stability, or nothing shall work. Ahhh.

Yes! The Lord can forgive even you. As long as you really are sorry, you are sill eligible for His forgiveness BUT you have to repent and ask Him to forive you.
The only time you wll be defeated is when you reject God's call and you tell him to let you go! That is a stage you seem not to have reached yet and hopefully you won't either. God loves you and He gave His Son for you, so that you may have eternal life! Give Him a chance! Believe it! It is true!!!
