No Salvation Outside Church

Concerning salvation the Catholic Church believes the dogma that there is No Salvation Outside the Catholic Church. It also believes that you must be baptized Catholic in order to be in the church. Is this true?

ROMANS 10:17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,

MARK 1:8 I indeed baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy spirit. ( It's Christ Work of saving a person not the work of any church,)
---RICHARDC on 4/10/11

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father!

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he!

Says it all.

You quote Rom2:14 erroneously referring it to those who do not accept Jesus as the Christ.

1John2:22 "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-christ, that denieth the Father and the Son"

1John4:3 "every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is NOT of God"

2John:7 "many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an anti-christ"

No. the catholic church is not correct. When we have salvation it is through Jesus only. No church(denomination)can save us. It is wonderful to have fellowship & needed, but that will not save us.
---candice on 2/26/11

another point also mima,God refrences the worl as 2 races, jewish, and gentiles, and recognises the world as saved or lost. Not catholic, methodists, baptists, hindu, whatever, these names are given by man as denominational,or religious in nature as a so called discription, but are they saved? who knows, its all personal, just because your a baptist dont mean your saved,or catholic,or methodists.

According to the Bible, the ONLY way to salvation is through repentance and putting your trust in Jesus Christ (Luke 13:3, Romans 10:9-10, 1 John 1:9). Anything other than this, is NOT salvation, but leads to Hell.

\\It seems that according to the Catholic church Jesus is not the only way of salvation, but all roads lead to God.
---Haz27 on 2/25/11\\

Actually, that is not a true evaluation of those words.

Anyone who is saved is saved by Jesus.

As St. Paul says in Romans, when the Gentiles who do not have the law still obey it, they are a law unto themselves, their consciences either accusing them OR excusing them. (Paraphrase)

He also said, quoting the words of YHVH to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy."

Should a Buddhist or pagan be saved, he is STILL saved by Jesus. It's not up to us to determine how God will apply the merits of Jesus.

Below is a quote from the Australian Catholic Leader July 21, 1991.

"God has his own special arrangements for Jews, Muslims, Hindus & Buddhists. I do not deny the possibility that even agnostics and atheists can be saved, if they are sincerely acting in accordance with their consciences, and following what they genuinely believe to be the truth"

When I wrote to the Archbishop stating scriptures that Jesus was the only way of salvation his response was that my view was "too narrow" and that the "Church has formally condemned the idea of outside the Church no salvation"

It seems that according to the Catholic church Jesus is not the only way of salvation, but all roads lead to God.
---Haz27 on 2/25/11

You should ask a catholic, for we Christians are not catholics. And we Christians obey Christ's Commandments and worship only him.
---Eloy on 2/26/11

the church?mima you and I both know the church is composed of BELIEVERS,what the catholic church,or any other denomination believes outside of EXACTLY what jesus taught doesn,t concern me in the least ,save that it is false.jesus said iam the way the truth the life ,no one comes to the father but by me,there was no mention of the pope,or the catholic church.
---tom2 on 2/25/11

The Roman Catholic Church does NOT believe it as you are presenting it here.

First off, the RCC teaches that validly administered water baptism (that is, in the name of the Trinity with water) puts the baptizand in some connection with the Roman Catholic Church ipso facto.
---Cluny on 2/25/11

" and i both know that salvation has nothing to do with the catholic church."
---JIM on 2/25/11

Yes Jim we both know that salvation has nothing to do with the Catholic Church but the reason I asked the question is to point out the utter ridiculousness of that belief! Many people do not know what the Catholic Church believes and teaches. Whether it's the Catholic Church Baptist Church or the Methodist Church or any church I believe people deserve to know what they teach and purport to believe.
---mima on 2/25/11

I suppose you mean the *Roman* Catholic Church, not Greek Orthodox or Coptic or Russian Orthodox Catholic. People claiming to represent the *Roman* Catholic Church present different ideas about if one can be saved without being baptized Roman Catholic.

There are ones claiming to be "official" Roman Catholic who say if you have heard doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, then you can not be saved unless you obey the Roman Catholic leadership.

Others claim to be "official" but they say ones not *Roman* Catholic can be saved, even if they know about Roman Catholic and stay non-Roman Catholic.

I'd let each person speak for oneself.
---Bill_willa6989 on 2/25/11 and i both know that salvation has nothing to do with the catholic church.
