All of us have experience failing in some areas of our life.As all of us know, life is not perfect.Trials are there either to make us or break us.It depends on how we see things.our reaction is very important. If we have God in our life-we will see this as God's way to cleanse us,improves our character, and make us a better and stronger person.
God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28)

Lucy, "I..can't see anything to look forward to." I understand. Look to God and He will be your something to look forward to.
"Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? HOPE IN GOD, for I shall yet praise Him,for the help of His countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me,Therefore I will remember You. The LORD will command His loving kindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me. I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God."

I feel like my life is a failure and can't see anything to look forward to. I pray that God either shows me what I need to do or just let me die. How do I trust and hear what God is telling me?

Haz27: You sure like to get the last word in don't you? You lie and make false judgments. Not a thing a Christian does.

You stated "Just as you find it difficult to overcome your abusiveness, your husband likewise in being a workaholic."

You Haz are a liar. I am not abusive. I am rather quiet and only get nasty when mistreated. You don't know squat about me or my husband. You take what I say and twist it to suit your own purposes.

If you are a man I would suggest you get a job and quit with the blog gossip club nonsense.

Maybe you and Rhonda should get together you both sound like a bunch of losers.

Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good, and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1Jn 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Mike, even if there were no Christianity, there would still be right and wrong. There are many religions, and all of them have moral codes. Look at any culture before Christianity, and you will find there has always been conduct that is demonized. So it makes no sense to say Christianity demonizes everything. The Bible gives God's standards, states man is fallen, and then God Himself provides reconciliation. You still have your free will. You can do what you want. God just tries to save you from some of the consequences.

Leslie: Excellent post! We need more lessons in practical Christianity. It is appalling how some Christians treat members of other denominations as enemies, rather than brothers & sisters in Christ.

Two related thoughts:

EVERY human being (even the unborn) is of infinite worth, considering the price paid for his redemption.

The solution to every problem we face is as near as our knees are to the floor.
---jerry6593 on 7/6/11

christianity DEMONIZED everything & we are told to obey it.
---mike on 7/5/11

I ran into this with the Assemblies of God. They HATE Catholics. Even folks like myself who were born Catholic, but want to grow closer to GOD.

So . . . I'm supposed to HATE my Catholic parents, whom GOD chose for me? Not at all! Exodus 20:12

I've tried telling this to some Assemblies of God folks. Their response? Catholics are doomed. Oh, Really? What about their Golden Calf idols?

Mike: "yes, bec. christianity has brainwashed me into following RELIGIon."
Once again Mike, that is not TRUE Christianity. Hope you've been well.
---Christina on 7/5/11

yes, bec. christianity has brainwashed me into following RELIGIon.

common teachings are
give your 10% & you will succeed
do not rely on yourself
deny yourself
self is a SIN.
it is mostly 'just sit down & god will take care of everything' mentality. because that is the mentality of pastors - sit down & collect money

it does not teach skills, self confidence, relationship.

christianity DEMONIZED everything & we are told to obey it.

Leslie, your comments are great. That is what all believers should do. Trust in God, have faith that God knows what is good for us. And when we don't listen He makes sure we get on the right track, by chastening His children. Oh, sometimes we don't like the chastening and complain about it, but it is for our own good. As I mentioned before, one of the hardest things to do for a believer is to gives thanks in all things. Especially when things are real bad.

tho I've failed the Lord, He has never failed me. I married, had 3 great kids, raised them, taught myself how to sew, paint and in the midst of all that, God saved me. That makes me a winner. I have failed many times and would do things differently if we could do it over again.

2Cr 10:12 For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Your comment about churches being unhelpful is very true. We should never put our trust in churches or it's pastors/priests.
There is only one pastor to trust and follow, Christ Jesus.

It's good to fellowship with other Christians but importantly
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."Ps 118:8

Your reference to Phil 4:11 being content whatever your circumstances is good. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Truly we can cast all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us,1 Peter 5:7.
---Haz27 on 7/2/11

I don't feel my life is a failure, so to speak. I have been blessed in a lot of ways. But we always feel, in the natural, we deserve more. But in the spirit realm, God is always faithful. Even during our trials, tribulations. Bad times.God is good to us even when we experience death of our loved ones and friends. In the worse of times God said He would never leave us or forsake us. We should believe this and live this out in our lives. Regardless of what we think or feel. God is the boss.

You can trust in God. Turn to His word for counsel such as Psalm 46:10
"Be still and know that I am God".

---Haz27 on 7/1/11

Thank You!

I hope that I'm not cutting down churches by saying that I've found many to be very critical and unhelpful to men in our situation. Then they wonder why no men go.

I think that a person is a failure only if they let themselves think that way. As GOD sees it, everyone is a success. Where they are.

The Holy Bible says to be content. Philippians 4:11-13. When we don't, that is when we start ourselves down the road to depression and feeling like a failure.

In this world, my marriage may have failed, but I am a success before GOD. Alleluia!
---Augie on 7/2/11

I think failure is how we see ourselves. BUT are we looking at ourselves through God's eyes or our own. Are we comparing success/failure by what is around us.

The Lord WANTS your failures, every single one of them, so HIS POWER and GLORY and work can be seen through them.

Paul said "when I am weak...THEN I am strong"..". The Lord said to Paul, MY STRENGTH is made perfect in weakness. Paul said then I will glory in my weaknesses.

That's the true secret to Growing in the Grace and Knowledge of Him...
---kathr4453 on 7/2/11

My life is a failure, but His life in me is a success.
---Christina on 7/2/11

Mine is a similar case to yours.
A middle aged man with health issues, still going through legal battles with my ex-wife who divorced me to marry the marriage counselor who was undermining our marriage in his counseling sessions with us because he was attracted to my wife. The counselor lost his job for his unethical actions.

Remember it is Satan who is the source of these problems.
And many other believers are facing challenging trials just as we are.

You can trust in God. Turn to His word for counsel such as Psalm 46:10
"Be still and know that I am God".

Keep in mind, Leslie, that God's definition of "success" and "failure" is not necessarily the same as ours, because Isaiah points out that God doesn't even THINK the same way we do.

Remember the lilies of the field that God made for His pleasure alone that only HE sees.

Glory to Jesus Christ.

As things are, everyone's life is a failure. But in the end, no one's life will be a failure, "for God has consigned all men to disobedience, that He may have mercy on all of them." (Rom.11:32)
---John.usa on 7/1/11

Right now, you can do the good that God has you do. Jesus was on the cross, and He did plenty of good. All that suffering and shameful death did not go to waste, but because Jesus was obeying, so He was "a sweet-smelling aroma" (Ephesians 5:2) while going through that. And we are commanded, (Ephesians 5:1-2) to walk in love, like this. So, God considers this to be a realistic expectation!!! (c: I'm not so great at this, myself, but it helps to wait until God gets me in His peace, first, then see what He does with me. And there are very beautiful feelings in His love.

A failure? According to whom?
True Christians will often appear to be failures to others in the world. And it's not just the world. Sadly, even good pastors can feel like a "failure" if their church is smaller than one a few blocks away.

When we look at God's holiness and His plan for the world, what Christian doesn't feel like something of a failure?

But we need ONLY to do what God asks of US (not somebody else's favorite ministry or call from the Lord). Even at this, it may appear to us that we haven't succeeded. (God is the true judge here).
IMHO, you are only a "failure" if you are not attempting anything for the Lord.
---Donna66 on 7/1/11

Augie: "In situations like mine, tt's easy to just "Give Up" and feel like you're a failure!" I am well acquainted with those feelings. Leslie says we need to trust God, not ourselves, I agree, but what does that look like? I can say in my heart that I am trusting you Lord, but does that mean I sit back and do nothing? Does it means I move on as I would have prior to saying that? Doing by the spirit or the flesh, the only apparent difference (to me) being the attitude of my heart. The feelings (giving up, hopelessness, depression) can be so overwhelming. It's easy to say don't follow your feelings, it's another thing to do. Ask God's help. He is our strength, and hope, and is able, we are not
---Christina on 7/1/11

Jesus says, "without Me you can do nothing." (in John 15:5)
"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

"Why do You hide in times of trouble?" (in Psalm 10:1)
"LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble,
You will prepare their heart,"
(in Psalm 10:17)

Oh, so God may not answer our prayer about a trouble, because He is busy with preparing our heart, first, so we are ready to handle how well He will bless (c: We need to become submissive to God, so we can obey how He pleases to take care of us, and so we have His ability to handle how well He will bless.
---Bill_willa6989 on 7/1/11

Sorry to hear that Augie. Just tell God you can not do it by yourself and you need His help. Ask Him to lead, guide, and direct you, then step aside and let Him. Ask Him to take control. You are not a failure, God has your back, if you just trust Him - He will take over from here. Also check out the message on Bill Yount's website called "Abraham Lincoln and Daniel Boone Anointing to Persevere and Pioneer and Finish The Course", this may help. God bless.

failure and success look different from a worldly perspective compared to a Godly one. From a worldly perspective, yes, my life's been a failure in many ways, and still is, but it is those very things that God has and is working in and through. Maybe if I hadn't been so stubborn it would have been different, but He gives beauty for ashes, and it is the foolish things of the world that he often chooses.I will say, that I've had many "worldly" successes too, but that's not my focus, even those, are by His Grace and to His glory

I'm a middle-aged, disabled man. Stuck in the aftermath of a nasty divorce. My ex took everything for herself and our children. I keep trusting GOD for a miracle. That I could move on with my life. I have yet to see anything. Legal court issues make things even harder.

I'm sure that many other divorced people, especially men, can relate to the problems that I face.

How do I let GOD take the lead so that I get to play in the background?

In situations like mine, tt's easy to just "Give Up" and feel like you're a failure! Help!
