"true christian" cannot have demon if remain faithful to Christ and live sanctified life. True christian can have demon spirit if don't repent of sin and keep the door closed to satan. Good christians have anger, resentment, hatred, etc. because of repentance or need deliverance of past. Person smokes, gets saved needs deliverance of tobacco. i've cast demon of tobacco out !!!
---marlon on 3/14/12

Marlon/Mark_V/Eloy: Your views with understanding do not really differ. Mark_V & Eloy are talking about a true follower of the Lord (cannot be possessed). Marlon is talking about back-slidden so called "Christians" who are possessed or repossessed by the devil
---Adetunji on 3/14/12

i use to believe like you until i saw a pastor hopping around a room like a frog until demon was cast from him! i KNEW t he was saved, born again but he open a spiritual door, didn't repent and it led him further into darkness. "my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. There is "Frog demon"-Revelation 16:13
---marlon on 3/14/12

Marion 2: the rest of your answer was good. Everyone should listen to their conscious because the Holy Spirit speaks to our conscious. If our conscious tells us something we are about do it wrong, we should not go against conscious. But no one who is born of the Spirit can be possessed. What's happen in your case is that you are dealing with many non-believers. They need the gospel. And you need to read up on the 'temple of God.' Don't be deceived by those who preach that genuine believers have demons.
---Mark_V. on 3/14/12

Marion, you could not possibly:

"i've cast demons from christians many times"

What those people need is to be saved. No Christian can be possessed by demons. Not possible. Instead of casting out demons from people, you should be preaching the gospel of Christ so that they cannot be possessed. Whats the use of casting out a demon from someone who is lost when the door is open for more demons?
The temple of a believer belongs to the Lord. The Spirit of Christ.
---Mark_V. on 3/13/12

Simply put, the Spirit-filled are "Holy Spirit" filled and have Christ's Spirit and are Christ-like: and the demon-possessed are "evil spirit" filled and have not Christ's Spirit and are not Christ-like.
---Eloy on 3/10/12

i'm in Deliverance ministry. i've cast demons from christians many times. U open spiritual doors to sin U will receive? Bible says we reap what we sow. Repent, move forward. Fill up with God and no room for Sin(demons)! get clean, stay clean. Seems wrong, probably is, try test spirits?
---Marlon on 3/9/12

Spirit filled person believes on Jesus and His work. Also this person is a living example by the characteristics of the Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This person strives to live a sacrificial life unto Jesus and self-examine his or herself by the Word of God. The demonic person sometimes claim Jesus but can never walk in the love of God, is prideful, sometimes contentious. This person sometimes know the Word in the letter but can not endure or go through longsuffering with peace or love, therefore walking in the Spirit and ways are deceitful.
---lroey137 on 8/9/11

Some of the characteristics of those who have the Spirit of God is found in Galatians 5:22-23.

Yet, I see so many people who claim to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but they show the characteristics of those who have evil spirits inside of themselves, Matthew 4:24, Matthew 8:28. Mark 1:23-26, and Luke 4:33-35.
---Rob on 8/5/11

Further to what Mark V said "It is never about how bad they themselves really are, its an evil spirit"...

James makes it clear the principle source of temptation is our own lust (referred to by Paul as flesh, old man)James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

To me this says that my fleshly desires are alive and well and to be dealt with. Also there is external temptation (enticed) through what I see, read, hear etc. Just like Adam and Eve experienced in the garden.
---Bruce5656 on 8/5/11

Bruce565, you gave a very excellent answer. Very well explained with Scripture, thank you
---Mark_V/ on 8/5/11

Nothing I say here is intended to downplay the feelings of rejection you experienced. You may have been told that you had an evil spirit and you may believe that you had an evil spirit but I ask you to consider "What sayeth the scripture" Rom 4:3

1 John 4:4 "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

1 John 5:18 "he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not."

Still, many times We hear fromsomebody sayings 'n church.. Those things stick! Like used to hear " give honor to God who is the head of my Life!" and we be still a "baby" 'n the Lord! Some of us,like myself ..We got to Really "give up! Those things which we so easy let upset us! I learned to PLEAD THE BLOOD! Fasting & cry out to the Lord! I love to hear how others have struggled 'n BE Real! On here! Thankyou all! Love of Jesus

andy, you make two good points. Concering evil spirits, Knowing Christ as Savior but not as Lord of His life, there is a problem. When He is Lord of your life, there is no room in there for an evil spirit. That is the temple of God. That body, even though the flesh is not redeemed, belongs to God now. It is of the Spirit and will be of the Spirit forever.
Some Christians who come to Christ call everything bad you do and evil spirit, That is what confuses people many times, when in fact it is the flesh which is sinning. But they still say, the spirit of lying, of cheating, of eating, of cussing etc. It is never about how bad they themselves really are, its an evil spirit. Eve said it was the devil, Adam said it was Eve fault.
---Mark_V. on 8/4/11

Alan, I was speaking of believers witnessing to the lost. I was not speaking of belivers talking to other believers. I believe the reason some belivers say, they are born again, is because when talking, many times some are not born again. And they want to separate those who are and those who are not when they are talking. I try to separate them for two reasons, because when questions arise on CN, many are talking of those who claim they are Christians and go back to their roots and so make those who are really Christians part of those who are not. When someone uses the word Christian only it groups both together. I said this to Eloy. He speaks of "we" and then condemns some of the "we." I hope I explained it. if not sorry.
---Mark_V. on 8/4/11

GOOD POINT Donna, (about demons not leaving immediately). nevertheless is it not rather a fact that when someone submits to Christ as lord, or someone accepts Christ as saviour, that it is there where the difficulty lies? most people do accept jesus saviour of the world, yet refuse Christ Kurios, they maintain their old ways and therefore these old demons who left when Christ came return to find an empty house( Since the Spirit is Holy he does not dwell in a house of fornication)

To be born again means you are born a second time of the Spirit of God. Your spirit becomes alive unto God.

To be born a first time, you are "born of the flesh" through your mother's womb.

Your spirit isn't alive unto God until you are Born Again and that happens by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. He comes to tabernacle with us and quickens us and leads us and guides us into all truth. He and our spirit work together.
---Donna5535 on 8/3/11

when someone asks me what are you, i say i'm a christian, if the person asks me whats the proof i say i was born again, and then i give my testimony how i came from formalism and materialism into a life-giving relation with My lord and saviour, in doing so i am trying NOT TO use all the above christian slang, for when i do most people look at me bewildered as if i'm a native of Haiti speakin RASTA.
fact is biblically i am called a christian,
Born again,
child of God
disciple of Christ
converted is a term that denotes someone walking a certain path and now he turned arround t anouther goal.
so it is also bible slang
---andy3996 on 8/3/11

Mark ... But wea re talking about Christians!!

WE know we have been born again ... but being Christians among Christians have noi need to boast that we are better then the others by labelling ourselves "Born_Again"

iT is tautology, and so often used to justify as being better than other Christians.

We had a meeting, one person said ... "Well, I am Born again, and God has told me this ... "

A dishonest attempt to claim superiority over others of older age who were converted before born again became the word to describe conversion.

Sorry, but so many use it as buzz word to show they are better than the rest.

I have a question for you folks, especially Bruce.

When a person gets saved, like I did at age 24. I am now 52. Did the spirit of rejection that was keeping me bound flee from my body?

Did demons say, "here comes Jesus, we'd better get out of here boys." LOL NOOOOO demons do NOT leave anyone automatically.

MY POINT IS THIS: When I got saved 28 years ago, I had a spirit of rejection and it had to be CASTED/COMMANDED to come out of me in Jesus name and believe me, it didn't come out easy.

Demons do not volunteer to leave someone just because they said the sinners prayer and got saved. They must be commanded to GO in Jesus name and the person has to want them gone.

Alan, the reason many don't use born again is because they cannot explain born again if the question was brought up. What they teach is that man is in rebellion against God and are heading to hell, and if they repent and commit to Christ and believe in their hearts on the works of Christ and His forgiveness they will be saved. There,s no need to get into detail with every part of Scripture with someone who is not saved. All that comes from discipleship after.
I did see a video of a brother in the nation of Africa who went through the whole Bible from start to finish with an interpretor and when he got to the crucifixion they were all mad. Then they were told that He had risen and all of them rejoiced, and all came to Christ. It was awesome.
---Mark_V. on 8/3/11

Mark ... You are right about "conversion" as a term used by the RCC I remember a group of RC nuns who were talking, and they were so pleased that a group of Anglican clergy had converted from being Christian to being Catholic.

But when I was converted. the term was used by those who had been to evangelical rallies ... it was conversion from not beleiving to believing. There was no RCC influence at all in our use of the word.

"Born again" was not used as a description of the moment.

And it was certainly not used as an adjective (as is so often used now) to imply that you are better than those who don't use the term about themselves
---alan8566_of_uk on 8/3/11

Mark ... I was at a church meeting a few years ago, and there was discussion about some aspect of worship, and one person said "Well, I am a Born-Again Christian and God has told me ... "
---alan8566_of_uk on 8/3/11

Alan, you are right that many use to say "converted" but that came from the RCC background. People were converted to the church. Jews were converted to the church. It is a word mostly used by former Catholics. They never use born again because they do not teach it. I never knew what the words meant. In fact if someone said they were born again and lived next to you, I thought of them as holy rollers. My mom forbid me to talk to them. Catholics are very prideful not because of Christ but because of the Church, their roots. My mom and her mom were all born Catholics. I mean born into that Church.

I'm a christian, and up to my 15th birthday i was proud of that, then i saw what people do and put a Christian flag to cover their atrocities so i was dissapointed and dissorientated. when i was 21 i had a lifechanging experience with the Lord so i called myself "born-again" instead, until i realised that calling myself Christian i say i'm christlike (it was a bisschop who pointed my error) since then i am proud to be a christian simply. anything more then this is only to orientate those still unaware that there is NO GREATER NAME we can carry

CHRIST IS A Namegiver.
---andy3996 on 8/2/11

Shira ... I did not express myself well. I agree that we are born again.

But, 55 years ago, we talked about being "converted", and if asked how long we had been a Christian, would say we were converted x years ago, not born again x years ago.

And still today, I would talkj about being converted in 1955, and now refer to myself as a Christian ... no need to say more.

But there are those who would say I am not a proper Christian because I don't style myself as a "Born-again Christian"
---alan8566_of_uk on 8/2/11

Shira, you are correct. All genuine Christians are spiritually born and spiritually filled. I say "genuine Christian" so that others can understand which one I'm speaking of, and that one is born of the Spirit. For many confess with their lips but not with their hearts because they don't have saving faith. They later fall away. You could call those temporary christians or apostates.
In some Pentacostal denominations, and now many other charasmatic denominations, many do claim special status because of the amount of emphasis they put on the gifts.
---Mark_V. on 8/2/11

alan of uk, I am a born again believer. I didn't know there were any other kind of christian. I am low on the pole of believers. I am nothing except what Christ has made me.

"What are the characteristics of those who have the SPIRIT OF GOD, and those who have an EVIL or DEMONIC SPIRIT?"
Love, or lack thereof, for one's fellow man.
---Josef on 8/2/11

In the churches where I have worshipped, the term "Spirit-filled" has been used as an adjective, describing a certain type of Christian.

So a Spirit-filled XChristian is one who is a bit superior to ordinary Christian.

Similarly, I've heard people describe themselves as "Born-again Christians" it's usually to show that they are better than ordinary Christians.

\\However, I also believe that as you grow in the knowledge & richness of God's word you become mature in your daily walk with God. But the Holy Spirit was there all along.\\

This is called "theosis" in Orthodox theological language--being conformed more and more fully into the image and likeness of God. and since we live in time, it's a process.

And God's got all the time in the world to work with us on this, as long as we cooperate with Him.

Think of it as a newly-conceived baby. She's as human as she'll ever be. All she needs is time to grow and reach her full human potential.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 8/1/11

Re the Erasmus quote. I guess it realy is true that "nothing ever changes."

It reminds one of Jesus quote: "Matthew 15:8, "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.""
---Bruce5656 on 8/1/11

I know there will be lots of people disagree with me on this & that's o.k. I believe that when you accept Christ as your Saviour, you receive the Holy Spirit in all His fullness. However, I also believe that as you grow in the knowledge & richness of God's word you become mature in your daily walk with God. But the Holy Spirit was there all along. Guiding you to the truth & helping you grow spiritually in God. I believe every Born-again, believing child of God is Spirit filled. It's just a matter of what stage of maturity are they at & do they remain babes in Christ or do they grow in the Lord. Demonic spirited person is someone who allows satan to guide their actions in life.
---Reba on 8/1/11

Someone on another blog mentioned Erasmus. I found a quote by him that seems quite appropriate to this thread:

"The gospel, the word of God, faith, Christ, and Holy Spirit- these words are always on their lips, look at their lives and they speak quite another language."

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Those who are Spirit filled have a quiet assurance. Those with the Spirit of God resting on them are not bitter. Spirit filled people always seek to help a lost person become saved. Those with a evil or daemonic Spirit will not seek to help the loss find their way even if they know the way.
---mima on 8/1/11

Your question seems to suggest that if a person is not a Christian (by definition has the Spirit of God living in them Rom 8:9) that they have an evil spirit or demon in them.

If so, there is nothing scriptural about that view.

While demon possession of an unsaved individual can happen, it is not at all common.
---Bruce5656 on 8/1/11

General conception, of Spiritfilled people Conviction of sin. Submission to christ.
zeal for the lost
The Fruit(s)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:
the fruits of demonised
Legalism, pride, carelessness Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like
i'm not saying that man has all this, at the same time, and i'm not saying that man looses all demonic strife at the same time, yet we keep moving forwards pushing towards Christ.

General rule: see what doctrines come with what signs and wonders they work.

What is fruit of their signs in their lives?

In everyday life with a Holy Spirit-filled person, I am finding the person is gentle and humble, and has power to get me more into the grace of God's love making me so I love any and all people. So, this person is not only getting my attention to herself or himself, but to God and to loving. This is how you can tell someone is a child of God: the person has power to make you better in God's own love. And look at how a wife can win a disobedient husband, "without a word," it says in 1 Peter 3:1-4. So, she can deeply effect her man, like this, because God's power of love's "gentle and quiet spirit" is almighty to defeat any evil in any person.
