Nana thank you that is very kind of you to let me know. That verse is so good and too many times God's people do forget to lay up their treasures in heaven by giving out kindness, concern for others, and love on earth.

I just noticed your blog entry on 12/13/11 and I whole heartedly agree!

Reading the blog opening statement, this verse comes to mind:
Matthew 6:20-21 "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:"
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Hebrews 12.

How can we be loving people, by seeking the things of Jesus who is in Heaven?

---Bill_willa6989 on 12/12/11

My definition os love is this: Having the best interest of another person at heart, with the ultimate goal of his or her salvation.
(regardless of religion and whatever salvation is in that religion)

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

I gave myself a small challenge for Christmas in the area of love. My mom baked cookies for me to give friends and I gave a baggie to a woman I don't care for because she's someone who needs love more than most. Just seeing her happy and surprised made it worth it. :)

Darlene, yes we can suppose we are seeking Jesus but while we not loving people. But if we seek the real Jesus in Heaven, so we are enjoying Heaven's things . . . Heaven's caring love had Jesus come here to reach us and share personally with us. So, Heaven's love has us surely willing to leave our own little selfish "heavens", in order to love others.

More practically, I would say we love others by seeking Jesus Christ's things, because this has us not trying to just use other people for what we can get from people. But we are into giving, instead . . . like Jesus in Heaven (c: By doing this, we can love people by giving them rest instead of demands and dictatorial expectations (1 Peter 5:3) (c:

Bill, my answer to Col. 3:1 refers to the things which "are above." If we are raised with Christ which actually means "to be co-resurrected" and because of that union with Christ believers spiritually entered His death and resurrection at the moment of their conversion (Gal.2:20) and we should seek what Paul called "things above" To know what those things are (v.2:2,3) tells us.
"...our hearts knit together in love, attaining all the riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both the Father and of Christ, whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge"
---Mark_V. on 12/13/11

The brethren in Christ are spiritual kin (relatives), but they should not receive any special treatment from us or shown any partiality (if they really intend to be a good student, THE LORD'S SPIRIT is training them and we should not interfere, they must learn to depend on The Lord so that HIS GRACE is sufficient for them). In worship matters (the faith), if you show partiality, you return yourself to the old law as a transgressor (James 2:9).

Luke 20:21 and James 2:1 'show no partiality".

NOBODY is incapable of loving without divine assistance (God gave every "son of man", believer or not, the ability to love,...the Holy Spirit will teach us "PERFECT" love, make that "discerning" DISTINCTION).

Scripture was written to all humanity, Jesus was sent for all of humanity that will sincerely accept Him, and the sabbath was also made for the sons of men (all humanity).

This is the sabbath era, the age of eternity, so that our REST (sabbath rest) may be eternal (The "LORD'S DAY")....."REST" means REST/RELAX, no obligations, no requirements (but the law of LIBERTY is a MANDATE....IF you will approve of God's WILL instead of other things that He HAS SAID in the past).

"Purification" is 'of the cross', but living "THE SPIRIT" of peace that the Prince Of Peace gave us as our trainer is our SURETY/"guarantee".

Jesus loves everybody. As a christian I should love what Jesus loves. Therefore I should love everybody like Jesus. By not get into petty arguments (like Jesus did). serving each other, helping each other, praying for each other, giving wisdom lovingly not harshly, etc.
---Scott1 on 12/13/11

The same way in that a child becomes more like their father, and the disciple as their Master, the more that one learns and knows about Jesus then the more a person should desire to become more like him. Read his words and worhsip him and pray to him. We are loving people because he is loving people, by hearing him and wathcing him and doing and saying the same things that he does and says, by obeying him and doing his will we fulfill his will, not merely because he Commands us to obey his commandments to do so, but moreso because we want to, it is in our heart to love one another and do his will.

Bill Willa,I think Christians must guard against becoming so heavenly minded they are no earthly good. We can seek those things of God without forgetting we have a mission on earth,to show forth the light of God in us and the love of God for humankind through us. One does not exclude the other. God made us to have fellowship with him which comes by living a life obedient to him. We also have a calling to bring others into his Kingdom that they too may have fellowshipp with God and do his work. I will turn your question around, how can we not be loving people by seeking the things of Jesus who is in heaven?

It is by the Power of the Holy Spirit that we can love people.

We love because He first loved us.

As we experience God's love for us which is unconditionally, then we can love others the same way He loves us.
---anon on 12/13/11

Bill W,It all depends on what is meant by "the things of Jesus"
I don't recall people being referred to as "things"
---1st_cliff on 12/13/11

If we are to be obedient to Christ's commands, we must express our love for others. The Great Commandments are Love the Lord your God...and Love your neighbor as yourself.qqq
---Trish on 12/12/11

The man of God should be a gentle, loving person to spouse, children, etc. and hospitable (ONLY hospitable if appropriate) to strangers, but is not obligated to be unreasonably kind or 'nice guy doormats' for other people.

Neither should we care for ("love") ANYONE more than we SHOW LOVE to ourselves (I'm sane, I don't 'lovey dovey love' myself, I simply AM/BE).

We are NOT OBLIGATED to 'give help' to anyone if it is a BURDEN (DO NOT "give" GRUDGINGLY), only "give" when you can be CHEERFUL about it.

Everyone Jesus spoke to 2000 years ago came from UNCIVILIZED cultures. Before they could actually become 'Holy Spirit gentle', they would need to learn to be civilized ('good samaritan humane').

Love can be classified in two category. One is the fleshly love that's rooted in the sin nature of the man. This kind of love seeks only for their own glory and is worthless before the eyes of God.

The other as taught in the Scripture is Divine Love that only the Christian will experience in their walk with the Lord. And this comes about because he is born of the Spirit of God. For God is love. Scripture clearly declares,

"We love Him, because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19 - confirming that it is the love of God that saves the sinner from their sins, because that's what Christ came to fulfill. So how can a Christian then loose His salvation?
---christan on 12/12/11

We are to "seek" and love JESUS (not the "BOOK" and ministers, nor believers/unbelievers).

God's Spirit will teach us to share "PERFECT LOVE" with HIM.

Scripture was written to ALL HUMANITY (the "sons of men"). God "delights" in the sons of men.

Proverbs 8:31 "delighting in the sons of men".

...therefore, we must not mistreat each other, but treat others with DECENCY (tender loving care DECENCY, not primadonna doormat 'lovey dovey love').

...."LOVE your neighbor" is taken FAR OUT OF CONTEXT (as per satan's wishes).

"Perfect love" and spiritual love is for GOD ONLY.
