Our fear is given by God to prepare us for fight or flight, to keep us safe. Often we develop fears from childhood experiences. The Older generation said a woman marks her baby in the womb by her fears or traumatic experiences. That is more truth than fable. Babies do hear whats going on around them while in the womb and their mothers physical condition does have an effect on them also. That is because with many of our emotions our bodies release different chemicals to prepare us to deal with the situation. God can heal us from fear or anything but that doesn't mean He always does. Perfect love casts out fear, only God's love is perfect,to me that means our love and faith which overcomes any situation by trusting God's love.

ladyghome, do you have another name such as kathr? wow you two sound just alike in your comments to downplay everything that is said here so matter what it is. humans have many things in our lives that we have because we are humans. God made us with a sinful body and at certain times I am afraid especially of downpours where I can't see where I am going. No I have never rebuked my fear of the weather but if I am caught in it, I pray for God's safety.

God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind. Guess who gives us the spirit of fear and enjoys our resonse to it?
Ever thought of rebuking it?

Shira, you and Follower are correct. It is our nature to have fear. God made us that way. That is why we count on God to take the fear away. If we could make ourselves fearless, we would not need the Lord in everything. Concerning the woman with the blood issue, after touching Jesus garment, Jesus asked, "who touched Me?" The question Jesus asked was not in ignorance, but so He might draw the woman out of the crowd and allow her to praise God for what Had happened.
"And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well, 'Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction" (Mark 5:34).

I believe God gives us a certain amount of fear for our own protection. after all, He made us the way we are. I am deathly afraid of driving in heavy rain so I plan my trips to avoid them. If I get caught in one I will just exit and park.

Put your trust totally in God. Fear God/Jesus Christ only and make Him the absolute controller of your life. The fear of all other things will disappear from you.

Mike, what??? It seems to be the norm here to attack posters on the supposed Christian site. Instead of asking me to clarify you jump to irrational conclusions? several hundred scriptures describing various types of fear. Take it up with God Mike, if you are fearful of others choice of supportive scriptures they attempt to share rather than getting on a tangent about bondage. Good grief wouldn't you be the one who was irrational I simply offered a few scriptures to help ease someone's fears for whatever that fear may be. Instead appears as if you trash this person as being in bondage because I must have missed where you offered holy scripture to help. Not everyone has perfect faith including you, because many are poor in spirit. peace

faith in god will deliver you from sin as he would from fears
follower of christ

luke 8:40-49
the woman had faith but when christ felt his power left him he turned around & the woman trembled (fear).

OH and are you going to accuse the woman bleeding for 12 years SIN like so many christians who would label suffering = sin=punishment.

many christians become irrational that everything is LABLED SIN. and when there is sin there is punishment..that is why many are in bondage of fear, doubt.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Some others: Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 27:1, 23:4, 56:4

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Just like sin, you have to learn to put your trust in God (fear him, not any man or issue in life). Faith that God will deliver you from sin as he would from fears. Overcoming sin is a lifelong process and overcoming fears can be too. Be vigilant and and meditate on Gods words that help support you to live without fear.

"How to get rid of fear?" Nancy: Through the effectual operation of the Faith given us in, and through Christ Jesus. Faith and fear are opposite sides of the same coin, and neither can be seen clearly, or experienced fully, while the other is showing. In the words of Jesus to Jairus before fear could compromised his faith after hearing that his daughter was dead, "Don't be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed." Luk 8:49,50 (NLT) Therefore simply make the conscious decision to " Fear not: [and] only believe. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2Ti 1:7

Two thousand years ago, the Jews feared disobeying the RABBIS (MAN). So Jesus, Paul, etc. told them to FEAR GOD instead of MAN.

Today, in the JESUS DISPENSATION (the age of eternity), we should realize that ministers do not have spiritual authority over us (we should "FEAR" God...instead of MAN).

If a believer is outright REBELLIOUS against God, there still would be no reason to be scared of GOD (be afraid of SATAN'S GRASP instead).

The Lord NEVER wants to hear that you fear Him, nor does He want you to give Him a reputation of being scary.

The Almighty needs no one to be scared of Him (He is "ALMIGHTY", HIS decisions are FINAL).

He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you.

Elena, God bless you
"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.
There is no fear in love, BUT PERFECT LOVE CASTETH OUT FEAR: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love Him, because he first loved us." 1 Jn 16-19

There is wrong fear that won't go away until we obey.

But Biblical fear of God is not being afraid of Him, but . . . I don't know what words, but it's not being afraid of our own Father, I offer (c:

Maybe it's a positive kind of thing, of wanting to be careful not to do what can spoil this loving and tender caring that we have with God in His love "in our hearts" (Romans 5:5). Or it's like how you're not afraid of losing your best friend, but you want to be careful not to spoil all that you have together. So, this being careful is a positive kind of fear??
---willie_c: on 9/13/12

I don't know what you're afraid of, but generally all the things we're afraid of are actually contradictory. To give an extreme example, we can't die of gunshot, hunger, and lightning strike all at the same time.

Perhaps your present anxiety is what you should pray about. THIS is your present appointed cross.

Praying, "Thy will be done" about it will be answered with the strength to endure your uncertainty.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

We are supposed to love God with every fibre of our being (heart, mind, and soul.....leaving no room for FEAR, Mark 12:30),.....but many believers refuse to do so because the ministers, scholars, etc. will disaprove (believers don't REALLY CARE what scripture says).

Isaiah 29:13 "their fear of me is a commandment of men".

Neither are we to love OTHER people (including brethren in Christ) in order to worship God....only God can do divine things), but, ALL IS NOT LOST,....

Hebrews 6:10 "For God is not so unjust..." as to forget all the deeds we've done to honor Him OR THE PEOPLE WE"VE LOVED in order to honor/worship Him.

.......Read and understand that verse.

The only fear we, (humans in general), are born with is the fear of falling, (this is in reference to babies,) all other fear is learned. It takes total discipline to overcome a fear. (That's a simply answer since you didn't name the fear, have nothing to go on.)

'For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.' 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is not from God, but from the enemy. We get rid of fear by growing our faith. We learn the Word of God, believe that His Word is true.

God says He will never leave us or forsake us. Believe that. If God's Spirit lives within you, nothing will come into your life that He will not give you the strength to deal with.

What exactly are you afraid of? Can you be specific?

We can't help you much if you don't tell us more.

Psalm 110:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all who follow His precepts have good understanding. Fear isn't bad,God created us to fear what is dangerous and thereby avoid what will harm us. Anyone who doesn't fear God denies He is all powerful and can do anything He deems needed. Without a healthy respect of God and His Word even to what people call fear rejects that He alone holds all power on heaven and earth and will repay for the wrong people do in not making Him King of all.Fear is only bad if it becomes an obsession which cripples a person from living to his fullest and serve God to our utmost ability.

fear of god? go to
sunday services and what do you hear? SIN SIN & if you sin GOD WILL PUNISH YOU. (great) wouldn't that create FEAR of god? teachings are to create skills but the so called instructions are to make you feel guilt, shame, fear, blame...

---mike on 9/13/12

It's not fear in general that the believer needs to shed (there are many activities in life that YOU SHOULD fear doing), it is the FEAR OF GOD that the believer should NOT HAVE.

A good parent will not make you fear them or WANT you to fear may fear DOING SOMETHING WRONG and getting caught, but the parent will not want you to FEAR them, they want you to LEARN to do things RIGHT (learn the error of your way).

A good parent will not 'pick' on you for superficial/trivial matters (prudish).

Be fair and do not resent them for teaching you the error of your way.

....Do not resent or fear God when HE DECIDES that you need to learn.

Your ONLY attitude towards God should be one of LOVE (have a LOVE DEVOTION).
