And there can be keys to the gate, since Jesus gave to Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven. So, yes this would mean there is an exact way in, plus there are keys needed.

And this means that Satanic beings can't just come from any direction without being evaluated. God cares about us and about what is good and not good. So, He judges. So, this is good news, that we have our God who judges and doesn't take just anything or anyone.

So we need to submit to Him and seek His correction > Hebrews 13:6-11.

Jesus used the word gate to helps us understand.
Just like when He calls us sheep.
Gate means security in Heaven with Him.

I believe that the Gate (or Gates) in Heaven are there more simply as tangible "symbols" that GOD set up for HIS people to remind them that for all Eternity they will be safe from harm and that they are safely enclosed in their own City.

It's really for the same reasons we have gates and fences around our own private property or businesses, etc.

Gates are to keep out the bad guys.

You have to be serious or hungry to enter the temple, tocomune with god. Toget intimate and meditate on the word and illuminate you soul (the outer court, your mind will emotions) with the spirit. Gods glory or his rest is in the inner court. When glory comes you see fruit in your life. We need to look into the mirror of his word as he prunes we bear fruit and become living epistles. The shewbread jesus wants you to have but the pharacees wanted to make rules and keep us from eating it (on sunday)but we were redeemed from the law and curses on the cross. I hope that was helpful.

The word "gate" should just be considered a symbolic expression for 'entrance to' a place.

The temple that the Israelites had consisted of an inner court and an outer court that was joined by a "GATE" that remained closed for six WORKING days (on the 7th day, the gate was OPENED for "REST"...Jesus is our 7th day rest from the law of sin that causes death).

Jesus (heaven is ours, the Jews did not have available to them). God said "they shall never enter my rest".

Jesus is our gate to The Lord's kingdom.

Eze 46:1

"Thus says the Lord GOD: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall be shut on the six working days, but on the sabbath

Gates exist in walls to allow selection. They allow one to permit desirables to come in, while at the same time keeping undesirables out. Not everyone is welcome. There are conditions for entry.

Open to me the gates of righteousness, I will go into them and I will praise the Lord. This gate of the Lord into which the righteous shall enter. Psalm 118:19-20.

Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps the truth may enter in. Isaiah 26:1-4.

Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leads unto life and few there be that find it. Matt 7:13-14.

Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter into the gates to the city. Rev. 22:14-15.

Revelation 21 tells us that Heaven actually has 12 gates each made from a single pearl. They must have been enormous.

I'm guessing that the gates are there because we will be invited in, rather than just entering in on our own.

We can only guess and I think that many wonderful surprises are in store for those who truly worship God.

If you have the opportunity listen to Anne Graham Lotz's sermon - "Heaven - My Father's Home". I have it on Video and DVD but I think it can be found on the internet also.
