James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. (KJV)
That's how to get wisdom!

Micha 9344 thank you for the verses on Wisdom, they're very to the point and very helpful also. I must wonder if a lack of wisdom is one reason some Christians give into their own lusts and are drawn back into a sinful life. God Bless

faith, your "words" are vague and irrelevant to the "truth" that you posted a statement that contradicts scripture.
"Truth" and "absolute" are words, yet you use them in a clear way. By doing such, it disproves your argument before you're even finished.
Note: the Bible says as much about wisdom as it does understanding, if not, more so.
Your "understanding" and "wisdom" of "words" are "limited."
---micha9344 on 9/19/15|
Words are NOT absolutes ("TRUTH" is an ABSOLUTE and cannot have/be given a vague meaning).
Words often consist of at least TWO meanings because of CONTEXT. God has a DIVINE context and humanity has its own (sometimes more than one context).
The word "WISDOM" usually refers only to a general insight, but God also differentiates it from "UNDERSTANDING" because of its limits.
Proverbs gives the best advice considering the limited use it gets from man (but mainly it is that the accompanying PRIDE is a destroyer of humility towards God).
This NEEDS to be well understood in order to properly understand scripture.
Devotion (spiritual RELATIONSHIP) is not LITERAL, it should be SPIRITUAL.

/Proverbs says to GET UNDERSTANDING (it DOES NOT advise or suggest that we pursue "WISDOM", but "UNDERSTANDING").\-faithforfaith on 8/20/15
Pro 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget [it] not, neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Pro 4:7 Wisdom [is] the principal thing, [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Pro 8:11 For wisdom [is] better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Pro 16:16 How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Pro 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell [it] not, [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
-Your understanding of wisdom is skewed.

Proverbs says to GET UNDERSTANDING (it DOES NOT advise or suggest that we pursue "WISDOM", but "UNDERSTANDING").
In order for us to discover and know TRUTH (the best that we are able to do is to have a relationship with it, WE CAN'T know ALL OF THE DETAILS of truth).
"Wisdom" would be acceptable for us if we didn't get puffed up about it, but human tendency is to be EGOTISTICAL and POSSESS "wisdom", so GET UNDERSTANDING (like a mechanic UNDERSTANDS the operation of a car) so that you don't end up in dangerous territory.
---faithforfaith on 8/20/15|
First, you have to LOVE the truth and be satisfied simply having a relationship with it.
2Thess 2:6 because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
Jhn 17:12 and none of them is lost BUT THE SON OF PERDITION
2Th 2:3 and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition,
For instance, if you want to know the truth about who the son of perdition is ( the son is also the man of lawlessness), you have to be ready, willing, and able to ACCEPT it (many people don't want to accept/admit the REAL TRUTH).
So do you simply LIKE the truth or do you LOVE the truth?.
John 14:6 "I AM the Way, THE TRUTH, and the life" eternal.
Yes you should LOVE the truth.

Geraldine said, "Wise and humble sometimes are difficult to pair up."
Oh, Amen to that statement. I have been a monk for more than ten years, and I have found it to be true that anyone who thinks he is wise is not--neither wise nor humble.
Pray for me,
the unworthy monk Brendan

"But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic." (James 3:14-15)
"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy." (James 3:17)
So, wisdom is not only smart understanding of what we know. We need to seek our Father for His correction of our character > Hebrews 12:6-11.

For the LORD gives wisdom,
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.

I understand Geraldine. "Thankfully my attitude changed for the better." Good for you.
---josef on 8/6/15|
Amen Geraldine. Thinking we know so much can lead to pride.
The Pharisees were prideful. But we are to remember that we actually only know what we have been taught by the Holy Spirit and others.
We are sustained and guided by Jesus when we do not look at ourselves but at our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He is the only one who truly knows and it is only by His Power and the Holy Spirit that others can truly be changed. Without Him we are nothing.
And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
If Abraham is dust and ashes what does that make us?
---Samuelbb7 on 8/6/15|
Maybe show-off was not the best way to express it, but there was a period when I taught a Sunday School class that I took too much personal pride in doing that. Thankfully my attitude changed for the better.
---Geraldine on 8/5/15|
Geraldine, exactly how is wisdom used to "show off"?
---josef on 8/5/15|
Be careful not to desire wisdom just to "show off" to others that you are wise. Wise and humble sometimes are difficult to pair up.
---Geraldine on 8/4/15|
"Agreed. But I will add we need to study the Word of GOD the Bible. Read all the Bible spend time in it. Pray for the Holy Spirit to teach us out of his word." Yes Samuel, most definitely. And that is exactly where wisdom will lead you.

Agreed. But I will add we need to study the Word of GOD the Bible. Read all the Bible spend time in it. Pray for the Holy Spirit to teach us out of his word.
Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD, and what wisdom is in them?
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
---Samuelbb7 on 8/3/15|
Yes Steveng, you have hit on the biblical key to gaining wisdom.
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him." James 1:5
---josef on 8/3/15|
Simply pray to God for wisdom. When you pray be specific about your request. Remember, praying is simply talking with God the same way you talk with your friends.
---Steveng on 8/2/15|
"How does a Christian get wisdom as we are told in the Bible to do?" As we open ourselves to her, yield and listen, she shows herself in the word of God. As we embrace the word, with a God given understanding, we embrace wisdom.
