Church Leaders Getting Wealth

Does being moral and doing right have no place in Politics or society. I see Jesus calling people to help the poor. I see GOD in the Old Testament saying the poor and the widow will be helped. So why do many churches today concentrate on their members and leaders getting wealth? Not helping others?

\\Steveng, Many are Christian sites researched all the way back to Calvinism. \\

Considering the history of the Orthodox and other pre-reformation churches, Calvinism doesn't really go that far back.

Many Orthodox priests in the USA have to have secular jobs to support themselves and their families.

Steveng, Many are Christian sites researched all the way back to Calvinism. The question was stated above, not you and your's starting a business or family business and if anyone thought this is right or wrong. It was about the Church acquiring wealth and jets and more jets without apology and not helping others. Calvinist's don't even believe in sharing the Gospel with the unelected, so helping them would be a waste of their money as well.

When my sister and her husband were in the service, they accidentally found themselves visiting a wealthy Calvinist church that treated them like pond scum because they just didn't have the expensive car and cloths when they showed up. They weren't asking for handouts ....just fellowship.

So, you are saying that mom and pop business are good and bad?

My dad owned two businesses, a restaurant and a produce company, in the 1950s thru the 1970s. He wasn't in them to get rich, but only earn enough money to have a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. He would hire people for his restaurant by scouting out his competitors to find good help and would pay then a dollar more than what they were working for.

Many people from other countries came to the US with nothing more than the clothes on their back only to become successful a few years later.

From what sources did your facts come from? Just by interpreting your comment, it appears that your sources are mostly from liberal sites.

I'm not boasting, just letting you know from first hand experience. Besides learning about how to run a business from my dad, I attended a private business college in the mid 1970s, and I owned four businesses since 1969, two of which were corporations. So, I do have first hand knowledge of business. And, during the 1990s, I was an investigative reporter focusing on politicians and CEOs. For the past three years my main focus are world economy and the middle east, mostly concerning Israel and Jerusalem.

Steveng, I just stated the facts. You can look it up. Many have written about it. capitalism was born out of Calvinism and the prosperity gospel. Calvin was actually the Godfather of the prosperity Gospel. How the ELECT , Gods chosen are rich ( justifying their wealth) ..and the unelected are the poor as Gods punishment to them. It's THAT perspective that has led to your question above. And now that so much religion has permeated politics, it's hard to separate the lines.

It can be both good and bad. If it's used to keep the poor poor, turning people into slave laborers, James addresses this very well, even before there was capitalism.

Kathr4453, do you believe capitalism is good or bad?

Mea Culpa!

Please forgive me for that insult. I had no sleep, I was tired and hungry, and I just blew up on line.

"one day all this will come crashing down around us, and it will be devistating to those who put their faith in this FALSE GOSPEL." Amen Kathr, so be it. The faith we are given to exercise should be reserve for our Savior, and all that He represents. Let us extend the love that He has shed abroad in us, towards the poor and needy amoung us. Come Lord Jesus

Interestingly the Prosperity Gospel began with (Calvinism and Capitalism) and has permeated this false Gospel of America. And many who buy into this aren't necessarily Calvinist's. It's also based on this false Gospel of America that God took from Israel all it's EARTHLY BLESSINGS for obedience and Gave them to America ....where if we continue to claim we are a Christian Nation God' blessings of prosperity will be lavished on us. WRONG. And one day all this will come crashing down around us, and it will be devistating to those who put their faith in this FALSE GOSPEL.

God NEVER made a Covenant with a Gentile Nation....NEVER. Today Christians are strangers and pilgrims in this world. HEAVEN is our home...

Satan had over two thousand years to infiltrate and divide christiandom up into over 75,000 different denominations each having their own man-made rituals, man-made traditions, ways of living and interpretations of the bible.

Living a true christian lifestyle comes from the heart.

If you give one dollar to a homeless person that came from the heart.

If you give one dollar to the denominational "church" fifteen cents goes to the homeless person and eighty-five cents goes to maintaining the denomination's hard assets and paper assets. It's up to the denomination's leaders to pay for the upkeep of these assets and to bring in as many members as possible using worldly marketing tactics and non-christian activities.

So why do many churches today concentrate on their members and leaders getting wealth? Not helping others? Their vision 'seems' to be "the great commission" and their focus 'seems' to be on filling their "churches", with the desire of building bigger and more magnificent church buildings. In addition some "pastors" seem to think that in order to complete their mission, and "God's calling on their lives", they need a private, fully equipped jet:o)

(1 Timothy 6:5).....and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

(1 Timothy 6:10) For the love of money is the root of all evil, and while some have coveted after it, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I entered a monastery because I love God, and not for money. I took a vow of poverty.

But there are so many preachers and politicians that believe that somehow, asking for money is Godly. This is not of God, this is personal pride and avarice.

While there have been times I have begged for money, I mostly have asked you to pray that God would bless us so that particular urgent needs could be met. So far, He has been faithful.

Nobody is getting rich at our church. The priest and his wife live on their pensions from his first carrer and SS.

What you are describing, Samuel, is a degenerate form of the Calvinistic idea that the godly person will proper.
