Is Mary Full Of Grace

Emcee said: "One does not Hate evil"

I'm sorry, Emcee, I have to disagree with you. Romans 12:9 explicitly says: "Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good"

God Bless.

---NVBarbara: "The word "HATE" should not even be in a Christian's vocabulary."

I have to disagree with this statement. Christians are called on to hate evil. Hate is a pure emotion which gives us the energy to combat evil. "Hatred" is a word that has an act of the will involved, but "hate" is a pure emotion.

Scripture

1 Cor 1:23 "we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles"

Of course He is Risen, but is the Crucified Christ a stumbling block or foolishness to you?

On what do you base this statement? Your own authority?

1 Cor 1:23 "we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles"
1 Cor 2:2 "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified."
Galatians 6:14 "But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."

Helen said: "To all the RCs here - If you have not asked Jesus directly to forgive you of your sins, then they are not forgiven. God says what He means, and means what He says."

Actually, we do directly ask Jesus to forgive our sins; that's what confession is all about

1. The Rosary has evolved over time. You can look this up on a number of websites. There are some differing stories, but basically monks used to recite the 150 psalms. Some say they counted the psalms on pebbles to keep track, then later on beads. For those who couldn't remember or recite the psalms, they started praying Our Fathers, Hail Marys, Creed, and Glory Be because they could be remembered.

(Part 2) The Rosary was then made into sets of 5 decades. The whole rosary would be 3 sets of 5 decades in a day. One would meditate on the life of Christ, the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries, while saying the prayers. The Mysteries of Light or Luminous Mysteries were added a few years ago by John Paul II.

(Part 3) The mysteries to meditate on are: Joyful: Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Presentation, Finding in the Temple.
Sorrowful: Agony in the Garden, Scourging at the Pillar, Crowning with Thorns, Carrying of the Cross, Crucifixion.
Glorious: Resurrection, Ascension, Descent of the Holy Spirit, Assumption, Coronation.
Luminous: Baptism of Jesus, Miracle at Cana, Proclamation of the Kingdom, Transfiguration, Eucharist.

(Part 4) The Rosary prayers are not vain repetitions as has been suggested. Jesus repeats the same prayer in the Garden of Gethsemani (Matt 26:44). The publican repeats "God, Be merciful to me, a sinner." The four living creatures in Revelation (4:8) repeat "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,,, day and night!! Many Protestants pray the Rosary.

Hail Mary as scripture:
Luke 1:28 "Hail Full of Grace, the Lord is with you!"
Luke 1:30 "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb (Jesus)"
Based on scripture:
Luke 1:30 (Holy Mary): "you have found favor with God"
Luke 1:43 (Mother of God): "mother of my Lord"

The Catholics put together the Bible. It was Protestants who *removed* numerous books of the Bible.

What Does Purgatory Mean

Acts 2:38 "Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins"

It seems to me that this is quite clear, Helen. I think you are adding words to the scripture.

Helen said: "For all of those here who think that water baptism saves you, then surely every time you commit a sin you must then go get water baptised for it to be forgiven. Ridiculous."

Actually, Jesus is the Savior. You only need to be Baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit once. For sins committed after that, one repents and then goes to the sacrament of confession to be absolved of those sins.

Chipper said: "Are you and your church the House of Israel or the House of Judah?"

Why don't you come and find out? There are RCIA classes in Catholic Churches to actually explain what the Church teaches. If you REALLY want to understand why we do what we do and if you REALLY want to know what we believe, attend the classes.

Helen said:"C12345 Don't you think that God would have named the RCC in the Scriptures if it really is His church as you claim?"

Why would He need to name His Church if all Christians belonged to the one group? It was His Church and everyone knew it. Everyone knew Peter was given authority in the Church. Is there really any question what Church people are talking about when they refer to Peter having the Keys to the Kingdom? Read the Early Church Fathers if you really are interested.

Helen said: "Baptism has nothing whatsoever to do with the forgiveness of sins."

Acts 2:38 "Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins"

Rom 6:4 "We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life."

Chipper said: C12345: "You say Peter is the head of your church? Well what do you do with this verse?" Rom 16:25 ..
Paul says, "according to my gospel"...

What's your point? Jesus is the head of the Church. Peter was given the Keys to the Kingdom, thus the first Pope. All the Apostles are like our Bishops today. By "my" Gospel, I do not take it as meaning "Paul's" Gospel, but rather the gospel of Jesus Christ that he follows.
