What Is a Catholic Christian

Mark V said
The only missals Catholics know about are the ones that get you sick. Don't you understand? If they don't know Scripture why would they know what a Missal is?

Huh? Forgive me, but as a Born-Again, Baptized in the Holy Ghost cradle Catholic, I knew what a missal was, and it did not make me sick. I got one at my First Holy Communion, and it was dear to me.

Now, let's get to the real question: Why are you so angry at the Catholics? Yes, I know about the excesses of the Hispanics--but they are a minority, are they not? The Holy Church that I grew up in has steadily maintained that worship is only to be given to God. Mary and the Saints are venerated, but not worshipped--despite what you have seen in Texas and Mexico.

What Is a Catholic Christian

I am an Eastern Catholic Monk who grew up Roman Catholic. There is no test to receive Communion. You don't have to know scripture. All you have to be is Baptized and in a state of Grace (i.e. no sins on your conscience).

Who Do Monks Serve

When the woman poured the costly oil on Jesus' feet, it was Judas who said, "Why this waste?" Monks and nuns (not active sisters like Mother Theresa) have given themselves totally to Christ, and they care least about themselves and most about what Jesus has called them to do. Besides, maybe it is by their prayers that the Antichrist has been kept at bay.

\\Spirit filled Christians should not be defending pedophilia. ...Pedophilia is BAD and WRONG. It is a 'NO-NO', Cluny, and you can assume that God does not like it (it is against His will and is also a BAD tradition).
---more_excellent_way on 3/27/10//
I AM NOT DEFENDING PEDOPHILIA!
With that said, I spent some years in the Assemblies of God, and while I was a member of a particular church, the music minister and the kids pastor were both discharged for pedophilia. The music minister transferred to another AG church in California, where he did the same thing! The kids' pastor went to the Baptists. in either case, there was nothing said about them being pedophiles!

Did Obama Come From Outer Space

If anyone saw "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, you will know that aliens wear greenish brown sport coats with a buttoned breast pocket, and have a tail.

Obama doesn't have a tail, therefore, he is not an alien.

LOL

Explain The Eucharist

\\What I am beginning to understand from this blog is that no one really understood the true nature of the elements of the Lord's Supper until the Protestant Reformers straightened everybody out in the 16th century.
---ger.toshav on 3/27/10//

Just the opposite is true. All of the pre-Reformation Churches (Those of Apostolic origin) did understand the true nature of the Eucharist. The Reformation confused people terribly, including a lot of people on this list.

Who Worships Saints

\\...It sounds like man made junk to me.
None of that mess is in the Bible I know that.
And I only believe God's word, not stuff man has made up or his traditions.
God says NOT to follow man made traditions.
So, I obey God before I will man.
Man fails where God wins every time. Man is a liar where God is always true...
---miche3754 on 3/27/10//
Are bats birds? Do you celebrate Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of November? I notice that you have a computer, and yet there is nothing in the Bible about that.

If man is a liar, how did you learn to pick up a Bible, and how did you get saved? Man told you to pick up a Bible, and Man told you the path of salvation

What Does Orthodox Mean

\\The orthodox in reference Christianity teachings is that which Apostle Peter delivered to the Jewish people First, Mark 16 v 16, Acts 2 v's 37-41 which Fulfills Matt.28 v's 19-20 on the day of Pentecost, (Apostolic) which Is the teachings of the Apostles. There is less of God & His Church body in the world.

---Lawrence on 3/27/10//

Sorry Lawrence, but Orthodox means right believing, and has nothing at all to do with the Jews, except that Orthodox Jews are also "right believing" in that they are following the traditions of the Pharisees. Rather, Orthodox Christians are those that follow the traditions of the Apostles

What Does Orthodox Mean

#3
The 1st Ecumenical (which means the Emperor Constantine called it) was in Nicaea, and was called to take care of the heresy of Arius, who was preaching that the Son was of a different essence than the Father. (Only the Father was eternal, and the Son (Jesus) was a creation of the Father.

The Orthodox (and the RCC and other Eastern Christians) believe to this day that the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are of the same essence, are all God, the Trinity in one God.

Explain The Eucharist

\\WE CANNOT cause salvation/eternal life....PERIOD. If you are going to belittle/ignore what Jesus did for us, at least have the guts to say it outright that God was remiss in performing all that needed to be performed.

So what do you suggest happens when we go to the bathroom?
---more_excellent_way on 3/26/10//

As to the 2nd question, Huh?

I have too much respect for what Jesus did to even want to belittle or ignore Him. The Eucharist cannot by itself save. If anyone partakes of the Eucharist unworthily, he eats and drinks condemnation upon itself 1 Cor 11:29

Read 1 Cor 11:23-34

Explain The Eucharist

\\Fr.Brendan, thanks for clarifying. If you are a priest I apologise for my previous remark. Are you the famous Church of Ireland priest?
---ger.toshav on 3/26/10//

Nope, I am from Chicago, and not a drop of Irish blood in me.

Explain The Eucharist

\\Catholic translators use 'IS' instead of 'MEANS' in these verses to suggest the bread & wine literally became Jesus' flesh and blood. However, the Greek word 'e-stin' can mean both 'is' and 'signify' according to context.

Jesus was using the bread and wine to signify or represent his flesh and blood.
---David8318 on 3/26/10//

First, it is not only Catholic, but Orthodox and other Eastern Christians use that same "is." It was used that way in the 1st Century, and has continued in that same use from then on.

BTW, Jesus spoke Aramaic, where the "is/means" similarity doesn't exist. He said "This is my Body...this is my Blood..."

Seen Any Evil Spirits Lately

Sonya, my first suggestion would be to see an M.D. that specializes in psychiatry. He will run all sorts of tests that may conclude that what you are experiencing is a physical disease, and not demonic or angelic visions.

Did Jesus Drink Alcoholic Wine

Yes!

Wild yeasts live on the outside of the grape. When you crush the grape, the yeast begins eating the sugar in the juice, causing fermentation. It is a totally natural process that can only be stopped by pasteurization. As Louis Pasteur wasn't born until 1822, the pasteurization process was unknown. As others have mentioned, when grape juice ferments it becomes either wine or vinegar.

\\Is the use of images idolotry? In church history the Iconoclasts stated yes and removed all images from the Easter Orthodox churches. The RCC fought against it and when Constatine V died it went back to images.

---Samuel on 3/26/10//

The first Sunday of Great Lent is called the Triumph of Orthodoxy, because in 787 A.D., the 7th Ecumenical Council rules that icons Icons are not idols but symbols, therefore when an Orthodox venerates an icon, he is not guilty of idolatry. He is not worshipping the symbol, but merely venerating it. Such veneration is not directed toward wood, or paint or stone, but towards the person depicted. Therefore relative honor is shown to material objects, but worship is due to God alone.

Is Depression An Evil Spirit

Clinical Depression is a PHYSICAL disease, not a mental one, and NOT a lack of faith. It is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, where the brain cannot make a certain chemical. A person can have faith to move mountains, but if he doesn't have that chemical, he will be depressed.

I will admit that a person can be attacked by a demon, and feel depressed, but this is very rare, don't you think?

Explain The Eucharist

The 1st century Christians were Orthodox Christians, all believing the same thing. As it was 2000 years ago on the Day of Pentecost, so it is today that during the Divine Liturgy, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. This is one thing that has been taught by the Apostles, and believed by the faithful throughout history, even if they were separated from Rome by distance, time and lack of communication. For instance, the St. Thomas Christians in India believe it too!

How To Love The Unlovable

\\Cluny, I think you missed the mark here. Love "is" an emotion that prompts one to act. Hate is also an emotion, albeit negative, that also promts one to act!
When you do something for someone you don't like, you bite your tongue and heap coals of fire on them!Rom.12.20
---1st_cliff on 3/20/10//

But is this love? Aren't you heaping hot coals on their head? Doesn't that hurt? You first CHOOSE to love, and show love to them, even by a smile and a kind word. If you choose to love someone, then it's up to God to bring your emotions into line with your choice.

1st Century Christian Traditions

I recently took your "False Traditions" quiz, and I found a lot of things that were anti-Catholic, even unchristian.
There is an obvious bias toward Charismatic/Evangelical Christianity. Please do a little bit of study about Orthodox Christianity and Roman Catholicism. Please read Orthodox Dogmatic Theology: A Concise Exposition, or Facing East by Frederica Matthews-Greene
Facing East will give you a look at the workings of an Orthodox Church,

For a look at what Roman Catholics believe, read Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by Joseph Ratzinger

This will let you know what Roman Catholics really believe, and not the lies that you have been unwittingly taught.
