666 is referred to as the Number of the Beast in the Book of the Revelation 13:17-18).
666 can also refer to a Roman Emperor such as Nero (whose name, written in Aramaic, was valued at 666, using the Hebrew numerology of gematria, a manner of speaking against the emperor without the Roman authorities knowing) See Number of the Beast.

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, 666 is considered to be symbolic. Because 666 in Greek numerals is and stands for the Christ( in Greek), for the man because the man was created the sixth day of Genesis (' in Greek numerals is number six) and the serpent, represented by , came between them.
