Yes, my references are correct.I quote from the Encyclopedia Americana 1977 edition volume 6 page 666, which discusses the origins of the Roman Saturnalia,(see my previous post) and the New Catholic Encyclopedia 1967 edition, volume 3 page 656(birthday of the invincible sun). I think page 666 in the Encyclopedia Americana is quite appropriate, don't you think?

Of course Jesus' birth was a joyful occasion. I doubt if any here deny that. The point is, why polute what was and is a holy (clean) event with pagan, none christian 'traditions' such as the festival of saturnalia? "Worship the father with spirit and TRUTH" John 4:24.

December 25 is the pagan festival of Saturnalia. Saturnalia was (and still is) a pagan festival which according to the Encyclopaedia Americana (Vol.6, p.666) ...took place around the time of the winter solstice, when the days begin to lengthen, to celebrate the rebirth of the sun...The Roman Saturnalia, also took place at this time...
