What Is Repentance
The Bible portrays repentance as a gift, a work of grace to turn a heart toward Himself. Repentance is more than only turning from sin, it's more a turning to God first, then we see ourselves through His eyes and we like Isaiah cry out "Woe is me for I am a man of unclean lips." Repentance is not turning away from sin by the act of the human will alone and its here that so many believers get it wrong and their commitments do not last because of it. In order for the gift of repentance to flow, the Gospel has to be preached for it contains the power of God. The Gospel causes God's Spirit to move, He bears witness to the Truth, He convicts us of our sin and our need for Jesus and He, the Spirit, He empowers the repentance.
