It is hard to justify a wealthy Christian existence. The systemic apparatus of power, particularly capitalism, which is formed under the conspicuous premises of self-interest and profit, effectuates evil and insulates individuals from feeling directly responsible for that evil. Jesus demands complete loyalty, and for the rich person, that means rejecting the existing social structure in favor of the "Kingdom of God." This is hard to do for anyone, but it is even harder for a rich person. |
