Tongues Evidence Of Holy Spirit

I hear ya Thomas. I've always felt like I should not be critical of others beliefs for fear of being judged myself, but which denomination is closer to being right? I don't understand how and we can all be going the same direction towards Christ but on different roads. Seems like after a couple thousand years we would lay down our axe of beliefs and just believe in the fact that Christ died for us all. I can't believe no one had a snappy come back ,not one comment for my statements below.. interesting

It also seems like the people that want to believe in tongues take those verses that aren't so clear and build on them to justify it. God did miraculous things. Anyone can babble just like other pagan religions. I wouldn't exactly call it PROOF. Where is that sign that makes EVERYBODY say Wow! that could only be from God. And when did tongues all of a sudden change from the account in Acts?

seems to me that there are more very clear statements in cor 14 that repremand the babbling we see today than there are those that do justify speaking in tongues. How many times does it mention things like unedifying, not for the believer, not understanding, clanging gongs etc. these things are very clear. Yet it's not nearly as clear on how we're to go about speaking in tongues or justifying it.

Holy Spirit Moving More Today

It really bothers me that we as christians all seek the bottom line in serving christ thru the years and yet we have divided ourselves on how to go about it. The bottom line is plain and clear in the bible that we believe, accept christ and be saved. How we go about it is not so clear or we wouldn't have all theses wedges driven between us. (denominations) Where does it stop?

I don't understand where people say we can't stand the presence of God. I thought I was made in his image and he wants me to be close to him because he loves me. I walk everyday with God beside me and thinking of how he'd want me to be. And how come people seem to pick on the signs and wonders that are easily duped? Where are the men that have all knowledge, wisdom, can heal mangled bodies in car wrecks and actually speaking a foriegn language to minister like Paul? etc.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. Just trying to understand where they're coming from. I see these things and wonder where in the world have we come up with them? our churches have branched off because of the things we have added and taken away from our bible. Some read too far beyond the words and some skip over them. Becoming a christian and picking a denomination anymore seems like spreading a deck of cards on the table and saying... pick one :)

We are in control of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. We have the choice to listen to him or not. God is not the author of confussion. Would he endorse ANYTHING that would cause division in his church? I'd like to think not.

First of all I didn't say anything about blasphemy. I think Disernment is the issue here. A lady named Maria Wood-Worth Etter brought this act of being slain to the stage in the 1880's. And so I question it's validity. Especially since Jesus nor any of the prophets called people down front, and caused them to fall down. I always thought God srengthened me for battle to be his witness and spread the word when I got the chance. Not to make me weak and act any way other than my normal self.
