Does God Hate People

Taken from Malachi 1:2-3. God says He "loved" Jacob and "hated" Esau. Scary scripture indeed...until you look at the context, that is. Here, it means God has chosen Jacob and rejected Esau. It's more a comparison than actually hating. Jacob was chosen for the Abrahamic covenant while Esau was not. Besides, think about how you feel when you hate. In light of that, if an all-powerful God really hated Esau, do you honestly believe he would have lived long enough to even father a nation that would become a thorn in Israel's side? God puts up with us because He loves us.
